In the "Futurama" episode "A Fishful of Dollars", Fry (Billy West) remembers that he had 93 cents in his savings account when he was cryogenically frozen in 1999. After a thousand years of .25% interest, however, that amount had grown into a fortune of 4.3 billion dollars. Thankfully, inflation hasn't kept pace, and Fry is suddenly one of the wealthiest people on the planet. As anyone with abrupt access to a massive fortune might, Fry immediately begins to squander his riches on frivolous things. He buys the Mona Lisa merely so he may use it as a clay pigeon for skeet shooting. He tries to recreate a slobby, 20th-century apartment just as he remembered it. Most notably, he buys an ancient can of anchovies at auction, a valuable commodity indeed, given that anchovies went extinct many years before. The anchovies, still sealed, are guaranteed to be edible.
Unbeknownst to Fry, however, the anchovies are...

The WGA Awards boosted a pair of movie screenplays into Oscar frontrunner status on Saturday night, handing its marquee Original Screenplay award to Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won for Neon’s Parasite, and its Adapted Screenplay award to Taika Wiatiti for Searchlight’s Jojo Rabbit. Both of the winning scripts are nominated for Oscars on February 9.
This year the guild wasted no time in its 72nd edition, awarding its marquee prizes early in the night in simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York. Many of the film-side nominees gathered in the Edison Ballroom in NYC, so as to make the shorter jump to the BAFTAs which are Sunday in London.
Last year, the guild did not line up with Oscar’s screenwriting prizes, awarding Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade in original screenplay and Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty’s Can You Ever Forgive Me? in adapted. Green...

When the “Every Simpsons Ever” mega-marathon of The Simpsons began last Thursday on Fxx, it renewed interest in a show that will go down as one of the all-time greats—but has nevertheless been struggling commercially and creatively for awhile at this point. The show’s unimpeachable heyday in the ’90s is rightfully heralded, and as the marathon got going, it was those episodes that created the most excitement. Sure, they’ve been out on DVD for some time, but rebroadcasting them in order emphasized how great the show was at its peak.

The Not-We may conjure up images of a plastic green forest, a wizened wise woman and a mwah-hah-hah-ing baddie with stupid hair, but in actual fact, it's everywhere you look. Take the Not-We's when it comes to sci-fi and fantasy. Your average Not-We will snort with derision and write off fans of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars etc as loser nerds who call their pet cats Spock and go to conventions dressed in long scarves and bow ties. Mind you, sport Not-We's will wonder why people go to games decked out in silly face paint and novelty 'look-at-me' costumes. If you're not part of the unit, there's clearly no hope left.
Xander's clearly having a case of Not-We-itis today. Another apocalypse is brewing and while the Scoobies are busy gearing up for research and heavy duty slayage, Xander's sent to the local bakery to pick up a choice of doughnuts.

Just as you go through life, you'll find that things change. New job. New friends. New family. But from time to time, the past will poke its head round the door, whether it's the chance meeting of an old buddy or the inevitable school reunion – surely fully grown adults want to forget the days of detentions, bad dinners and corridors that smell like used espadrilles?
So far, Buffy The Vampire's Slayer's third season has introduced new faces and dynamics to the equation, such as a new Slayer in town and new baddies to face. And then a face from the past comes crashing into the Sunnydale welcome sign with all the grace of an elephant entering the London Marathon.
It's welcome back to Spike, last seen leaving town in Becoming. This time around, he's minus a certain loopy missus with a penchant for eyeless dolls and babbling nonsense. Drusilla's had...

Fox has ordered 13 episodes of animated comedy Bordertown from Family Guy writer Mark Hentemann and Seth MacFarlane, reports Variety (via TV Guide). The show follows two families who live in a small town along the U.S.-Mexico border. The one is headed by a border patrol agent, and the other by a Mexican immigrant. Hentemann and MacFarlane are serving as executive producers while Alex Carter and Dan Vebber, also writers of Family Guy, are on board as co-producers.

Fox has given a 13-episode pickup to "Bordertown," a new animated comedy from the network's patron saint, Seth MacFarlane. "Bordertown," ordered late Friday (November 8) afternoon, was actually created by "Family Guy" veteran Mark Hentemann, with MacFarlane executive producing. Alex Carter and Dan Vebber will co-executive produce the 20th Century Fox TV series. Set in a fictional border town -- hence, you know, the name -- "Bordertown" focuses on neighbors Bud Buckwald and Ernesto Gonzalez. Bud is, of course, a Border Patrol agent, married with three kids and feeling threatened by the cultural changes in his country. Ernesto is,...

Seth MacFarlane is taking on immigration and the undergoing cultural shift in America. Seriously. With American Dad! moving to TBS and The Cleveland Show quietly getting cancelled, MacFarlane‘s animated presence on Fox had gone down to one show, flagship Family Guy. It will now be joined by a new animated comedy series next season, as Fox has given a 13-episode order to Bordertown, from MacFarlane and Family Guy‘s Mark Hentemann. Set in a fictitious desert town near the U.S.-Mexico border, Bordertown centers on the intertwining daily lives of neighbors Bud Buckwald and Ernesto Gonzales. Bud, a married father of three, is a Border Patrol agent who feels threatened by the cultural changes that have transformed his neighborhood. Living next door is Ernesto, an industrious Mexican immigrant and father of four, who is proud to be making it in America. As Bud and Ernesto’s paths begin to cross,...

Ha-ha-ha! Futurama is going classic anime in an upcoming episode channeling Voltron and other vintage animation styles. In “Reincarnation,” the series will be re-conceived in three very different styles: As a black-and-white cartoon, old-school videogame and as 1980s Japanese anime.
Studio 20th Century Fox gave Comic-Con fans a look at the anime sequence, which mostly took aim at the Americanized version of Voltron, along with Robotech and Battle of the Planets. We have an exclusive short clip of the video below:
Noted Futurama writer Dan Vebber: “The plots made absolutely no sense because they were always designed first-and-foremost around...

Comedy Central is ramping up its animation slate, including a series order for a new show from former "Simpsons" writer David Stern.
The new half-hour series, tentatively titled "Ugly Americans," is set in an alternate-universe New York City where fantasy and sci-fi creatures live among us as ordinary citizens. The show centers on a human social worker for the Department of Immigration who helps newcomers, both human and otherwise, adjust to life in the city. The seven-episode order is based on an original idea by illustrator Devin Clark, who will serve as a producer, and is set to premiere early next year.
"During these tough economic times our viewers need a good laugh now more than ever," said Lauren Corrao, president, original programming and development. "With the pick-up of 'Ugly Americans,' our viewers will be able to escape into a fantasy world like they've never seen before."
