HighballTV announced today that their upcoming monster-centered genre anthology film God of Frogs, which includes segments from several emerging film directors, has wrapped production in and around Trenton, Canada.

The cast of the anthology includes Kate Vernon, Juan Chioran, Darius Rathe, Erika Prevost, Ilana Haley, Peter Fernandes, Alexander Eling, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll, Sabryn Rock, and Christian Lloyd.
Producers attached to the film include Johnathan Sharp and Elizabeth Fraser, along with Executive Producers Matt Campagna and Andre Rehal.

Everyone remembers the lovely Kate Vernon from her role in “Pretty in Pink.” She’s the cult-classic, film-favorite, good-at-her-job actress who played the role of Benny Hanson in the hit movie we all still reference all these years later. She didn’t end her career in the 80s, though, and now she’s the woman who takes on television roles, movie roles, and anything else that she finds interesting, and we are here for it. She’s a dynamo, and she’s someone worth getting to know a little better. 1. She Was Born in the 60s She doesn’t look like she was born in

The appealingly atmospheric crime thriller Alphabet City (1984) debuts on Blu-ray this fall courtesy of Fun City Editions. Directed by Amos Poe, with a script by Poe, Gregory K. Heller (additional dialogue is credited to Robert Seidman), Alphabet City belongs in the company of After Hours and Into The Night (both 1985) as one of the ultimate ’80s nightmare nocturnes, and it is downright, well, criminal that Alphabet City is not better remembered today. Hopefully this Blu-ray will work towards amending that.

"What's important is: what are you going to do about it?" Gravitas Ventures has released an official trailer for a new boxing drama titled 12 Round Gun, the feature directorial debut of actor Sam Upton, who also stars in the film. It originally had the title of Gun, won an Audience Award at the Beverly Hills Film Festival last year, and is now getting a VOD release. Upton plays a washed up, alcoholic ex-prizefighter who makes a comeback to boxing after his top heavyweight contender son is wrongfully blinded in the ring. Also starring Mark Boone Junior, Kate Vernon, Jared Abrahamson, Cassi Thomson, Isaac C. Singleton Jr., Holly Gagnier, and Jay Acovone. This looks just like every other boxing film, with nothing new to offer. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Sam Upton's 12 Round Gun, direct from YouTube: A washed up, alcoholic ex-prizefighter, Joe Romano (Sam Upton), makes...

Remember that lawsuit Paramount Pictures slapped on the crowd-funded Star Trek fan film, Star Trek: Axanar? Then remember when J.J. Abrams said, “This wasn’t an appropriate way to deal with the fans," and "Within the next few weeks, it will be announced this is going away and fans will be able to work on their projects"?
Well, after Abrams and Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin urged the studio to drop the lawsuit, Paramount Pictures still isn't budging and they still haven't dropped it! What the hell?!
According to a recent update from THR, "plaintiffs Paramount and CBS told a California federal judge that their action remains pending." Which means they are keeping the lawsuit open and that they haven't made a decision about what they are going to do yet.
That's pretty disheartening, especially after they invited a ton of fans to attend a Star Trek Beyond fan event at the Paramount Studio lot, where it seemed like they were looking to fix this and make peace with the fans. I guess that's not happening anytime soon and that kinda bums me out.
The whole reason that the lawsuit was filed in the first place was because of "copyright infringement" including its settings, characters, species, and themes. Some of the specifics included the Vulcans' pointy ears, yellow shirts, and even the Klingon language.
Hopefully things don't escalate and get worse. This lawsuit really just needs to be dropped already. Let the fans have their fun! This is not the kind of news we should be getting on Captain Picard Day!
The film raised over $638,000 to complete a full-length feature film which involves the likes of Richard Hatch, Kate Vernon, Deep Space Nine vet J. G. Hertzler, and Star Trek: Enterprise alum Gary Graham. Here's the synopsis:
Axanar takes place 21 years before the events of 'Where no Man Has Gone Before,' the first Kirk episode of the originalStar Trek. Axanar is the story of Garth of Izar, the legendary Starfleet captain who is Captain Kirk’s hero ... Axanar tells the story of Garth and his crew during the Four Years War, the war with the Klingon Empire that almost tore the Federation apart. Garth’s victory at Axanar solidified the Federation and allowed it to become the entity we know in Kirk’s time. It is the year 2245 and the war with the Klingons ends here.

Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures slapped makers of a crowd-funded Star Trek fan film called Star Trek: Axanar with a lawsuit. The film raised over $638,000 to complete a full-length feature film. Even though the studio has always seemed to support fan films over the years, for some reason they decided to file a lawsuit against this one.
After the first complaint to the courts was dismissed due to the non-specific nature of "copyright infringement,” CBS hit them back with a specific list of things that the movie would infringe upon — “innumerable copyrighted elements of Star Trek, including its settings, characters, species, and themes.” Some of the specifics included the Vulcans' pointy ears, yellow shirts, and even the Klingon language. This caused an uproar within the fan community.
Well, Paramount Pictures and CBS finally came to their senses and dropped the lawsuit. The Announcement was made by J.J. Abrams at...

Pretty in Pink isn't just a good '80s movie. It isn't just a good teen movie. And it isn't just a good romantic movie. It's just a good movie, period. The John Hughes classic first hit theaters on Feb. 28, 1986, and it turns 30 years old this weekend. The film featured Molly Ringwald as Andie, a high school student whose style belies her working class roots. She's captured the eye of seemingly every guy in school - among them, preppy dreamboat Blane (Andrew McCarthy) and her little hipster buddy, Duckie (Jon Cryer). And the process of Ringwald's character trying to figure...

There may be a hull breach into “Star Trek: Axanar.”
The crowdfunded Star Trek indie film raised over a million dollar had generated plenty of publicity in the past year. The project even recruited notable names to the project including Richard Hatch, Tony Todd and Kate Vernon.
If Paramount Pictures and CBS have anything to do with it—they’ll make sure it won’t even be on the launching pad.
Last week, the studios filed a lawsuit in California federal court that “Star Trek: Axanar” is a violation of their intellectual property.
"The Axanar Works infringe Plaintiffs’ works by using innumerable copyrighted elements of Star Trek, including its settings, characters, species, and themes," written in the complaint.
Producer Alec Peters pitched the film to investors that it is not a fan film, but will be a high-quality Star Trek film with a fully-professional crew. Earlier this year,...

The 100 slowed the pace way down tonight, leaving the best stuff for the end and plenty more waiting in the wings. There’s been a lot of parallelism on Earth and back on the Ark this season, and “Unity Day” was no exception. Both locations attempted to mask their struggles by putting on a happy face and celebrating a time-honored, albeit socially constructed, holiday.
On Earth, the teenagers took full advantage of their dwindling chaperone-free days because let’s face it, there’s nothing like a kegger to drive home the fact that the “civilized” humans have returned to the ground.
The festivities on the Ark, however, took a turn for the worse and much sooner than you may have predicted. Despite only just coming onto our radar, Diana (Kate Vernon) wasted no time fueling mass chaos and putting her master plan into immediate action. For someone bent on...

The notorious fracking L.A. traffic did its best to derail the 35th Anniversary Battlestar Galactica panel that kicked off WonderCon 2013.
Thankfully, star of the original and re-imagined BSG Richard Hatch, scientific advisor Kevin Grazier, and Producer Michael Taylor soldiered on even without Ellen Tigh and Lili Bordan (who arrived about halfway through — just in time for the favorite episode question). Right after a special encore showing of the 30th Anniversary tribute, Hatch and crew went straight to audience questions which ran the gamut from the nostalgic to the technical.
Below, check out a few of the things we learned from the panel.

Syfy has announced the dates for its upcoming season/series premieres and finales, and it holds a lot of promise as well as at least one laugh. Season finales have been set for Being Human – But Where’S The Next Season Renewal, Syfy? Let’S Get Going On That – and Lost Girl, as well as new unscripted offerings Robot Combat League and Stranded. Premiere dates, as we’ve already told you, for the Mmo game-linked Defiance and for fan favorite Warehouse 13 are now confirmed, as well as the return of Ghost Hunters.
New unscripted series announced include a paranormal show with a southern accent, Deep South Paranormal, and a William Shatner-hosted – Yes, William Shatner – examination of stories of the bizarre and unexplained entitled Weird or What? Yes, a nice title, but once again the Syfy Original Movie has offered up the best chuckleworthy title of the season: Stonados.

Director: Michael Nankin.
Writers: Paul De Meo and Andrew Kreisberg.
SyFy's Red Faction: Origins premiered Saturday, June 4th, with a second showing Monday, June 6th and there is also an upcoming DVD release of this title, August 30th. The launch of this film almost coincides with the release of the latest Red Faction game, titled Red Faction: Armageddon, which can be unpacked June 7th. So obviously, there is some cross promoting occurring between the SyFy Channel and Thq. The film itself is an exciting, action paced thriller, set on Mars. Twenty-Five years previous to the show's main events, a group of socialists fought for freedom, against the Earth Defense Forces. However, the battle still rages on, as Red Faction, led by Alec (Robert Patrick) and Jake Mason (Brian J. Smith), must battle marauding tribes and the remnants of the Earth Defense Forces, now called The White Faction.
Are you confused?...

Warning! (Or, Good News! depending on your point of view). The next Syfy Original Movie is not about a monster or a cataclysmic event. It’s a movie based on the Red Faction video game series, and it looks really promising, so mark your calendars: Red Faction: Origins will be airing this Saturday, June 4, at 9 pm. On May 31, Syfy hosted a Q&A panel with four of the principals from the movie. During the panel, stars Brian J. Smith (Sgu) and Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica), director Michael Nankin (Caprica, Battlestar Galactica) and executive producer and writer Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe, Warehouse 13) shed light on the production, and what might be in store for the franchise.
Those who love the Red Faction games will be relieved to know that writer Kreisberg had played Red Faction: Guerrilla, and jumped on the chance to write this movie when approached by Syfy.
Troy Rogers from Deadbolt.

Brian J. Smith got his big acting break coming into the Stargate franchise.s third installment, playing Lt. Matthew Scott, the young military officer who frequently found himself placed in dangerous off world situations on a weekly basis. After Stargate Universe, which recently aired it.s final episode, ended, Brian found himself in Bulgaria filming another entry into an existing franchise, this time with Red Faction: Origins, which airs on Syfy this week, and may potentially lead to an on-going series. Brian is Jake Mason, the lead of the film which is directed by Battlestar favorite, Micheal Nankin and which also stars Kate Vernon and Robert Patrick. The movie is set in the universe of the Red Faction series of video games, and takes place after Guerilla and before the events of the upcoming Armageddon. Brian recently spoke in-depth to MediaBlvd about filming the movie, about how much he likes this new character,...

Kate Vernon captivated sci fi fans with her portrayal of the broken Ellen Tigh, the wife of number two, Col. Saul Tigh, on the re-imaged Battlestar Galactica. In the final episodes though, her star was set as an Icon in the sci-fi universe when it was revealed that Ellen was the hidden fifth Cylon, somewhat the leader of the previous race of human/robotic inhabitants of a distant Earth who gave birth to the human like Cylons who were the protagonists of the series. Now Kate returns to the Syfy family as a lead in this weekend.s movie, Red Faction: Origins, based on the popular video game series. Her character is another strong woman known as The Matriarch, and plays an important part in the movie.s major plot development. The film is being hailed as a potential backdoor pilot, which may spin off a new series for the cable network.

To start with the good news, Sasha Roiz will be back on TV every week this fall. His new show, Grimm, has been picked up to series by NBC. Spoiler TV has the first still from the pilot, which was written and exec produced by David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, and we'll probably get more details about the show after the upfronts. For now, here are the basics, from TV Line:
A fantastical drama, Grimm stars David Giuntoli (Privileged) as a detective whose mission is to protect humans living in a world where Grimm’s Fairy Tale characters actually exist. Silas Weir Mitchell (Prison Break), Sasha Roiz (Caprica) and Kate Burton also star. The bad news from NBC is that 17th Precinct didn't make the cut. Not much to add that hasn't been said at the Battlestar Blog.
David E. Kelley's take on Wonder Woman hasn't been picked up either.

A regular round of Tuesday updates:
Magda Apanowicz guest stars in tonight's episode of Hellcats, "Warped Sister" (9 pm, CW) and she'll be back on the show next week, too. Daemon's TV has the preview and photos.
Hellcats has only three episodes left this season. The show still hasn't been picked up and, since it came back from the break, it has been chalking Caprica's Friday night ratings. (If you're a fan, it's probably time to start spreading the word.)
A quick update on Eric Stoltz appearing on Wilfred, since the news was picked up by Spoiler TV, several other sites, and even Wilfred the Dog himself -- the original tweet from the show's casting director has been removed, so possibly daddy Graystone won't be making that appearance after all. Now that SyFy has officially announced a release date of June 4th for their TV movie sequel to the Red Faction video game series, gamers everywhere would be a remiss without just a taste of what's to come for Alec Mason.
Speaking to the press after the announcement, the cast and crew of Red Faction: Origins had a few key bits of info on the series, including whether or not Syfy might pick it up to series.
Terminator 2 star Robert Patrick will pick up the role of Alec mason, the hero of Red Faction: Guerilla, but appears in the film somewhat older and grizzled as his son Jake (Brian J. Smith) takes center stage. Origins will also star Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica) as "The Matriarch" of the series' Marauders.

Thq's "Red Faction" games have gone from surprise hit to all-out media assault in the last few years. Comics based on the IP are already out in the wild and the next piece of the multimedia puzzle will now premiere on SyFy on June 4th.
I've written previously about how the "Red Faction: Origins" TV movie will bridge the gap between "Red Faction: Guerilla" and the soon-to-be-released "Red Faction Underground." But, the cable network has only just announced the airdate for the new show. It's got a 9 P.M. Et/Pt timeslot and stars the liquid-metal Terminator himsle, Robert Patrick as an older Alec Mason.
And if you're looking for synchronicity, the two-hour movie comes out only days after the May 31st launch of the new game. Pertinent details from the press release follow:

The second season of Haven (based on a Stephen King story) starts up Friday, July 15 at 10 p.m. (Et/Pt). Last season, when FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) arrived in the town of Haven, Maine on a routine case, her knack for unraveling mysteries proved an asset when she discovered that the seemingly sleepy town was, in fact, a longtime refuge for people with supernatural afflictions. Now, in Season Two, Audrey must not only stay on top of Haven’s many afflictions, but also solve her most challenging case yet: the secret of her own lost past and its ties to Haven. Slow news day today… stumbled upon this post from 2009, back when the site had about 10 readers . Thought I’d repost since there are so many more of you regulars now, who probably haven’t seen it.
I do that from time to time, as some of you may have already noticed. But anyway, here ya go…
My good man, self-proclaimed cinephile, aesthete, dad, unrepentant liberal, resolute agnostic, English teacher, filmmaker-manqué, and once co-host of the previous incarnation of my podcast, The Obenson Report, the Genius Bastard himself, Mr Brandon Wilson, decided to utilize Twitter to count down his list of Spike Lee’s 10 Worst Female Characters. And since Twitter only allows a 140-character limit per post, he had to keep his analysis succinct, spread out over several Tweets.
I told Brandon that I’ll post each entry on his list, as he Tweets them, and combined them all in this post.

It's no secret that SyFy Original pictures are occasionally so bad that they're hilarious, and usually just so bad that they make eyes bleed, but their list of upcoming films for the next year truly has some gems. And by gems, I mean some of the descriptions are funnier than they are sad. Here they are, ranked from suck to blow.
Roswell -- June 2012 - The story selected by fans for Syfy and IGN.com's B Movie Mogul project, 65 years after the original UFO crash at Roswell, another ship from the same far-off civilization comes to rescue their downed comrades - and continue their preparation to invade the earth. Directed by Jason Connery (Area 51, The Devil's Tomb). A production of After Dark Films.
How intriguing, a description that could equally describe at least 300 other movies. At least Will Smith isn't in it this time.

Syfy has now scheduled "Red Faction: Origins", based on the "Red Faction" video games to air in 2011, starring Robert Patrick ("Terminator 2") as hero 'Alec Mason', who leads the 'Martian Colonies' to freedom — only to see his enemies kill his wife and kidnap his daughter.
Actor Brian J. Smith ("Stargate Universe") plays Alec's son, 'Jake', who discovers that his sister (Kate Vernon) is still alive, but now a soldier determined to destroy the 'Red Faction'.
Inspired by the movie "Total Recall", the original "Red Faction", first-person shooter game was released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, Microsoft Windows and Macintosh by Thq and Volition.
A version for the Nokia N-Gage was also developed by Monkeystone Games.
The premiere feature of the game is its 'Geo-Mod' (geometry modification) technology, providing destructible environments, allowing the player to destroy certain sections of the scenery in the game.

Get ready gamers! Thq and Syfy will be bringing us the made for TV movie for the hit video game Red Faction. The film will star a who's who of character actors including Brian J. Smith (Stargate Universe), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day), Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica), Danielle Nicolet (The Starter Wife), Gareth David-Lloyd (Torchwood), Tamzin Merchant (The Tudors) and Devon Graye (Dexter). The movie will tie in with the Mars based games Red Faction: Armageddon and Red Faction: Guerrilla. I'm sure we'll have much more on this movie soon! With a strong cast like this, if it is a success I bet we see a series!

"Red Faction Guerrilla" was a politically subversive, open world video game about Martian insurrectionists who refuse to be further exploited for their land's natural resources; "Red Faction Armageddon", its sequel, is more traditional and polished genre fare with linear levels and blood thirsty aliens. Often a decision to redirect a franchise in this way goes unexplained, leaving fans to fill in the blanks, but publisher Thq has a different strategy in mind: the made for TV movie.
In February 2010, Thq partnered with television channel SyFy to collaborate on crossmedia properties. The first project would be an animated program for SyFy Kids based on then Wii-exclusive, now multi-console friendly "de Blob" games.
Not much has been said of "de Blob" since, but a made for TV movie set in the "Red Faction" universe has slowly come to fruition. "Red Faction: Origins" follows the children of "Red Faction: Guerrilla" protagonist Alec Mason.
