Henry S. Villard was born on March 30, 1900 in New York City, New York, USA. He was a writer, known for In Love and War (1996). He died on January 21, 1996 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Later an ambassador and diplomat, the young Harvard graduate had also
been a volunteer ambulance driver for the Red Cross in Italy in 1918.
He came down with malaria and jaundice at the same time Hemingway was
wounded and the two became close friends in the Red Cross hospital in
Milan.
