President of Germany from 1984 to 1994. He is one of three presidents
(Theodor Heuss and Heinrich Lübke were the others) to have served two
terms.
Being Governing Mayor of West Berlin from 1981 to 1984, he received US President
Ronald Reagan in 1982.
Born to German diplomat Ernst von Weizsäcker and his wife Marianne von
Graevenitz, he has three siblings: Carl Friedrich, a noted philosopher,
Adelheid and Heinrich von Weizsäcker.
In 1985, he became the first West German head of state to visit Israel. In 1986, he became the first German to address a joint session of the UK parliament.
