Busby Berkeley’s musical comedy extravaganza not only gets away with a social message, it makes one of the best cultural statements ever about the Great Depression. Social upheaval suddenly being a real thing these days, we understand. The story is a romantic backstage musical but The Wolf at the Door is present in the dialogue, the lyrics, everywhere. This might be the sexiest of Berkeley’s musicals, with even star Joan Blondell teasing the nudity; but audiences were floored when the gala curtain number ‘Remember My Forgotten Man’ shouted out a cry for social justice. Warren William, Aline MacMahon, Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell & Guy Kibbee star; and this is Ned Sparks’ best role, with additional gold-digging by pert ‘n’ perky Ginger Rogers.

Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez are in the hunt for their third Best Original Song Oscar, for “Into the Unknown” from “Frozen II,” but there would be another noteworthy achievement on top of that potential victory. This marks the husband-and-wife songwriting duo’s third nomination, which means they could have a perfect 3-for-3 record in the category at the end of the season.
The Lopezes won on their first two bids for “Let It Go” from “Frozen” (2013) and “Remember Me” from “Coco” (2017) — wins that made Robert, then 39, the youngest and fastest (in 10 years) to Egot and the first double EGOTer. They share a 2-for-2 record at the moment with Giorgio Moroder, who prevailed for “Flashdance… What a Feeling” from “Flashdance” (1983) and “Take My Breath Away” from “Top Gun” (1986).
No one has been able to remain undefeated at three nominations or more. Should they walk away with the gold again, the Lopezes would join Tim Rice,...

This amazing Busby Berkeley extravaganza is the best choice to impress newbies to pre-Code musical madness: it is absolutely irresistible. James Cagney’s nervy, terminally excitable stage producer makes the tale of Chester Kent accessible to viewers otherwise allergic to musicals — he’s as electric here as he is in his gangster movies. Remastered in HD, the fantastic, kaleidoscopic visuals will wow anybody — we really expect Porky Pig to pop up and stutter, “N-n-n-o CGI, Folks!”

The escalating Lyon-Dubois war came to a head in Wednesday’s Empire fall finale, and, yes, there were casualties. There was also a long overdue confession, a sudden twist in the custody battle over baby Bella and, in the episode’s closing seconds, a shocking return and a kidnapping all rolled into one.
Let’s review the major developments:
Warren came crawling back to Jamal begging for forgiveness and offering top-secret intel on his psycho mom Diana. Jamal inhaled the info and quickly passed it on to mom and pops, who then set in motion an elaborate plan to publicly...

On the season 4 mid-season finale of Empire, titled "Slave to Memory," the Lyons exact revenge on Diana with some help from Warren, Lucious gives Cookie an ultimatum, Jamal's future hangs in the balance after a tragic accident and Shyne worries Andre will reveal their secret.

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Lucifer, Empire, Supernatural and Psych: The Movie!
1 | Does Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Kasius allllmost look like if he wiped off his “make-up,” he could be Grant Ward? And has Yo-Yo officially become the most charming “speedster” on TV?
2 | How come The Walking Dead’s Eugene is more reluctant to get Dwight killed than, say, Rosita? Why wouldn’t Rick have taken backup for his junkyard powwow with Jadis? And how gullible are the...

On this episode of Empire, titled "Cupid Painted Blind," Cookie and Lucious worry that Andre will be Diana's next victim, Hakeem gets some fatherly advice from Shyne and Jamal deals with the aftermath of Warren's betrayal.
Actions have consequences, and Jamal is facing some serious legal woes after very publically beating the crap out of Warren. There's a warrant out for his arrest, but Thirsty has convinced the powers that be to let Jamal turn himself in. This gives the Lyon family 10 hours to find a way out of this mess. Thirsty thinks if they can convince Warren to say he threw the first punch, Jamal could be cleared of some, if not all, of the charges he's facing. The main obstacle standing in their way is finding Warren since Diana DuBois has her nephew hidden away and under lock and key.

“Shuffle Off To Buffalo” is a song that premiered in the 1933 movie 42nd Street, later to become a Broadway musical. Much, much later. The song was written by the legendary team of Al Dubin and Harry Warren, and the movie in which it was preformed was, very arguably, the most erotic movie Warner Bros. made while the Warner Bros. were still running the joint.

From the very beginning of “Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad,” we knew something different was in store for this episode. Up until now “Discovery” has favored extended cold opens, delaying the opening credits for several minutes. But instead, following the always moving opening theme by Jeff Russo, “Discovery” took on a narrative device well-explored by other sci-fi franchises — including another “Star Trek” series — and managed to both utilize the fun, appealing elements of the trope while finding its own spin on the action.

Why did the chicken cross the road? Because she was looking for a hero.
Luckily, Lucky found one.
Last year, the chicken was crammed into a truck with hundreds of others and sent to the slaughterhouse, reports People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Somewhere in Washington, though, some fortunate happenstance shook Lucky from her cage on the vehicle and dumped her onto the road.
Warren Padgette, a trucker driving behind Lucky’s truck, saw the weak bird plop on to the pavement. Figuring the chicken was dead, but hoping she wasn’t, Padgette stopped his rig and went to check on her.

The X-Men, as a franchise, is all about mutants trying to peacefully coexist with (and protect) the humans that hate and fear them. This means that there are a lot of human characters in the franchise – some of whom hate and fear the X-Men, and some of whom are the haters and fearers.

Captain Kronos – like the film – chronicles the adventures of the mysterious and powerful Kronos who has dedicated his life to destroying the evil vampire plague. Once a victim himself, the debonair Hunter knows the vampire’s strengths and weaknesses as well as the dangers of confronting the potent forces of darkness.
Based on the 1974 film, Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter is the second Hammer title from Titan Comics following the success of the awesome The Mummy: Palimpsest (from Peter Milligan and Ronilson Freire). However unlike other Hammer franchises, Captain Kronos was very much about the heroics of its titular character – and this new book very much follows suit, making it different in many ways from what audiences might expect from a Hammer comic.

Well this issue, ‘The Boy With the Displaced Smile’, is apparently an interlude adventure that The Doctor had before re-uniting with Hattie as we saw last issue. Officially, this is The Doctor’s mind going back to a previous adventure, even as him and Hattie are threatened in the present by that shambling seaweed monster. Unofficially, I’m guessing this may be a inventory stand alone issue, usually to help a creative team catch up with the publishing schedule. So, a little disappointed I won’t be seeing the second part of The Doctor and Hattie’s adventure, but also a little curious to see what this stand-alone story would bring.
The Doctor lands in the 1950′s American town of Sweet Haven, seemingly being terrorised by rampaging townspeople. Oh, and there’s a Cheshire Cat like huge grinning mouth in the sky.

“We took the card out, and he didn’t say anything,” Dunaway, 76, says. “He paused, he looked over me, off stage… and I finally said, ‘You’re impossible!'”

Armory Films, Union Entertainment Group and Pegasus Pictures announced today that Mads Mikkelsen (Dr. Strange, Star Wars, The Hunt) is starring in the survival thriller Arctic, directed by Joe Penna. Co-written by Penna and Ryan Morrison, the film is being produced by Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros of Armory Films and Noah C Haeussner of Union, and is being executive produced by Martha De Laurentiis, Einar Thorsteinsson and Cassian Elwes. The film also marks the first re-teaming of Mikkelsen and De Laurentiis since NBC’s “Hannibal.” Production is currently underway, with Xyz Films handling international sales.
The story surrounds a man (Mikkelsen) stranded in the Arctic, who is finally about to receive his long awaited rescue. However, after a tragic accident, his opportunity is lost and he must then decide whether to remain in the relative safety of his camp or embark on a deadly trek through the unknown for potential salvation.

Hailie Jade Mathers Scott is hip-hop royalty thanks to her famous father, Eminem. Now a 21-year-old student at Michigan State University, she’s known the world over as the spark behind some of the rapper’s best known songs—even performing guest vocals on a number of tracks. But while Em has been making headlines for nearly two decades, Hailie’s mother, Kim Scott, has mostly stayed out of the spotlight. In fact, the public perception of Scott has been largely shaped by Eminem’s less-than-complimentary lyrics, but her story is just as dramatic as one of Em’s verses.

Jessica Alba's husband shared a super cute father-daughter selfie on Monday, and joked about how much he resembled his oldest child. "Her mom thinks we look alike. I don't see it," Warren, 38, quipped on Instagram. "Starting to wonder if she's even my child. Have I been duped??!!"

His illustrations may have caused you to dread the next full moon, avoid the swamp on your shortcut home, or ignite your imagination with a peek into the post-apocalypse. Through his artwork, Bernie Wrightson has influenced and inspired generations of horror fans, so it is with great sadness that we inform readers that the prolific artist has passed away at the age of 68 after a long battle with brain cancer.
Wrightson's wife, Liz, shared the somber news of her husband's passing earlier today on the artist's official website and Facebook page.
A fan of EC Comics growing up, Bernie Wrightson, aka "Berni," began working on projects for both DC and Marvel early in his career, co-creating the complex character Swamp Thing with writer Len Wein in the early ’70s. Bernie later worked for Warren Publishing, where he helped bring H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe stories to life on the paneled page.

The music scene in Austin, Texas, is alive with talent and energy – and you hope that energy would inspire Terrence Malick, who lives there, to bust out of the filmmaking funk of his recent work (Knight of Cups, To the Wonder). No such luck. Despite a few glimpses of Iggy Pop, Flea, Lykke Li and Big Freedia in live performance, Song to Song has no music in its DNA, not to mention its soul. Instead, Malick indulges in his usual visual tropes, having characters wander around aimlessly while muttering their mock-profound thoughts in voiceover.

Grrr arggg! Into every generation an excellent TV show is born: One show in all the world. The Chosen One.
It’s been 20 years since Buffy Summers, Mr. Pointy, The Bronze, and Giles’ always-smudged spectacles graced our small screens, and the world has never been the same (mostly because she saved it… a lot).
There were plenty of quips (“Out. For. A. Walk. B**ch.”), tears (Spike’s undying devotion, sob), and frights (bunnies, plus demons and stuff), but Buffy the Vampire Slayer was so much more than that.
The Joss Whedon masterpiece created several feminist icons, spoke to addiction struggles, portrayed the first lesbian sex scene on broadcast television, showed that vampires were sexy long before Twilight and made it ok to wear pink leather pants in public… well, sort of.
Whether you were Team Angel, Team Spike or kind of just wanted Giles and Joyce to get together, the show had...

And so the saga continues.
There were some good moments and some "meh" moments on Grey's Anatomy Season 13 Episode 15, but overall I'm just bloody underwhelmed. Or tired, I can't decide which. We'll go with both.
How about you guys? We're in this together, afterall.
As the song postulates, what is war good for? Absolutely nothing.
I cannot think of a more fitting picture of Meredith Grey than the one above. Her expression mirrored mine during the entire hour. That expression where you're 100% done, and you can't bring yourself to even hide it anymore. That one.
Same, Meredith. Same.
We were able to go a full 24 minutes without an Eliza appearance (Yes, I counted), but we were not spared from the effects that she has on the hospital and the staff. This time, she was literally coming between a family.
You know who is an awesome character who makes me laugh?...

The now-infamous ending of Sunday’s Academy Awards — in which Bonnie and Clyde costars Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announced La La Land as the Best Picture winner instead of Moonlight, the actual victor — had everyone on both sides of the screen scrambling to figure out what had happened.

Dunaway and Warren Beatty have been talk of the town since the pair mistakenly called La La Land as the winner of the Best Picture award Sunday night — the honor actually belonged to Moonlight. But Dunaway made sure to celebrate Hollywood’s biggest night despite the controversy.

Any other time, any other way that Grey’s Anatomy’s April could have been made interim chief of general surgery would have been fine. Fine and dandy, even. But, since it happened when she was in the middle of a revolt on Richard’s behalf against Eliza — and the temporary promotion came at the expense of coconspirator Meredith — it was neither fine nor dandy. In fact, it resulted in Kepner spending most of “It Only Gets Much Worse” wishing that it really was lonely at the top, because she was surrounded by colleagues who mostly were hopping mad at her.

Annabelle 2 is set to come out later this year, and the good folks over at New Line Cinema are hoping to build on the following created by the first film, which was a spinoff from James Wan's very successful horror film The Conjuring. The Annabelle doll was introduced in that film, and she sparked enough interest to get her own flick. The first Annabelle made $257 million when it came out in 2014, on a budget of only $6.5 million.
Annabelle 2 is being directed by David F. Sandberg, who directed last summer's very well-received scary movie Lights Out. The film is set to star Stephanie Sigman (“Spectre”), Talitha Bateman (“The 5th Wave”), Lulu Wilson (upcoming “Ouija 2,” “Deliver Us from Evil”), Philippa Coulthard (“After the Dark”), Grace Fulton (“Badland”), Lou Lou Safran (“The Choice”), Samara Lee (“Foxcatcher,” “The Last Witch Hunter”), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony Lapaglia...
