Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
The last direct-to-video entry before the big budget theatrical remake, Amityville: Dollhouse adopts the same format as the last few films without contributing much new to the mix. By this point, the formula is fixed: take a haunted object that is tangentially tied to the original Long Island house, throw a dysfunctional family into the mix, and whip up a variety of bizarre events. Dollhouse follows this to a tee: it’s not bad, but the film is the least inspired entry to date, with an odd collection of half-baked ideas that don’t really come together to form a cohesive whole.
The film follows a blended family, something that first time director (and prolific Amityville producer) Steve White explains in his...

Hulu's "Welcome to Chippendales" crime drama depicts the true life story of Somen "Steve" Banerjee (portrayed by Kumail Nanjiani), the Indian immigrant who founded the multimillion dollar global male stripping empire that swept the nation in the '80s and '90s.
The eight-part limited series from "Pam & Tommy" creator Robert Siegel centers on Banerjee's rise and fall in an outrageous plot filled with greed, scandal, and murder. In addition to Nanjiani, the show also stars Nicola Peltz Beckham as Dorothy Stratten, Dan Stevens as Paul Snider, and Murray Bartlett as Nick De Noia - the Chippendales choreographer/Banerjee's business partner who (spoiler alert) was murdered in 1987.
"Welcome to Chippendales" isn't the first retelling of this tragic crime saga. Discovery+ released a four-part docuseries in September 2021 titled "Curse of the Chippendales," which chronicles the same harrowing tale through interviews with former Chippendales dancers and original business leads.

For his directorial debut, filmmaker Michael Lehmann took on the world of high school comedies with Heathers, the endlessly quotable pitch-black comedy that fearlessly explores the trials and tribulations of the teenage experience. Written by Daniel Waters, Lehmann immediately fell in love with the script from his fellow up-and-comer in Hollywood, and set the wheels in motion to get Heathers into production.
“Dan Waters, who wrote the script, is an amazing screenwriter, and was an acquaintance of mine at the time, and a really good friend of Larry Karaszewski, who was in film school with me at USC. At some point right after I got out of film school, Larry said, ‘You should look at Dan Waters' script. It's really amazing, and he's looking for an agent, and maybe you could help him get one, because I landed an agent coming out of USC with a movie called The Beaver...

Released in theaters a little more than 14 months after its predecessor, Hellbound: Hellraiser II had the unenviable task of following up one of the most innovative and boundary-pushing genre films of the 1980s. Tony Randel took over the directorial duties on Hellbound, and he did a brilliant job sidestepping the pitfalls that can often trip up a sequel film effort, ambitiously blazing a new path in the Hellraiser universe by taking viewers into the labyrinthine realm of Leviathan and providing fans with a greater understanding of the franchise’s Cenobite antiheroes as well. Hellraiser II also introduces one of the series’ most dominant and unforgettable villains by way of Dr. Channard (Kenneth Cranham) and transforms Hellraiser’s wicked stepmother Julia (Clare Higgins) into a bona fide evil queen.
Simply put, Hellraiser II is a perfect example of what every filmmaker at the helm of a sequel should aspire to achieve,...

I know we’re never supposed to judge a book by its cover, but we do whether consciously or not, and I certainly did with this one. Just look at it: a semi-naked woman with a piece of cloth barely covering her lady parts, squatting(!), with the title “Monster Massacre” overhead. It’s like an 80s hair metal band cover for an album of songs about drinking behind the bleachers, staying out past curfew and not doing your homework – the stench of adolescence is unfortunately all over this anthology of short comics based around monsters.
Which isn’t to say it’s all bad – put your best foot forward as they say, and this book does just that with a classic comic by legends Jack Kirby and Joe Simon called The Angel of Death. It’s about a small town menaced by a monster in the night and has smatterings...

When you hear about someone making money from methamphetamines, that's usually a bad thing. But not in the case of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The city, which is the home of the hit show Breaking Bad, has a collection of local businesses that are cashing in on the show's methamphetamine theme with everything from candy to donuts.
The Emmy award-winning drama – about a struggling high school chemistry teacher (Walter White played by Bryan Cranston) who turns to cooking meth after being diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer – begins its last season on Aug. 11, but if you can't wait that long, here's some ways to satisfy your cravings.

Industrial legends Kmfdm have been dealing in their own brand of “ultra-heavy beat” for nearly three decades, across nearly twenty albums, and their 2011 release Wtf?! (check out our review here) proved that their axes are still plenty sharp, and that their post-millennial lineup – founder & frontman Sascha “Kapt'n K” Konietzko, vocalist Lucia Cifarelli, guitarists Jules Hogdson & Steve White and drummer Andy Selway – remains their most durable and powerful incarnation in my book. After the misstep of Blitz, which felt like a half-hearted attempt to recapture the band's late-'80s club vibe, the team wisely returned to the workshop to craft another metal monolith, and that form is still firm for their latest full-length studio album... in fact, it's actually moved into an even darker range, with a rebellious fervor matching that of angst-ridden works like Wwiii. All the band's lyrical signatures are still in play in Kunst, including their well-known political...

This is a surprise. Kyle McSlarrow, a longtime political operative in Washington, will relocate to Salt Lake City to serve as a Regional VP overseeing Comcast‘s cable operations in Utah and Arizona. He’ll report to Steve White, President of Comcast Cable’s West Division. “We’re delighted Kyle will now be turning all of his attention to our business operations which has been a goal of his since he came to Comcast,” says company Evp David Cohen. Maybe so, but it sure wasn’t evident from McSlarrow’s DC activities. He joined Comcast in April 2011 with the fancy title of President, Comcast/NBC Universal, Washington, D.C., where he reported to Cohen and oversaw public policy matters. That followed six years as CEO of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, making him the industry’s top lobbyist. Lately he’s been an informal adviser to Mitt Romney on energy...

Charley’S War (Vol.8) – Hitler’S Youth

Wanna feel old? Family Guy made its debut 12 years ago. Yep.
That means it's high time it follow fellow Fox Sunday night cartoons The Simpsons and Futurama into the world of comic books. Family Guy #1 hits comic book shops and newsstands on July 27th, just in time to take a laugh break from all the serious universe-jumbling in Marvel's Fear Itself and DC's Flashpoint.
The comic book series, which is being published by Titan Comics, is being edited by Steve White and illustrated by S.L. Gallant (G.I. Joe, Torchwood) and Anthony Williams (Batman, Judge Dredd). White says Fox needed a little convincing, and the show's producers will keep an eye on the book's stories and art to make sure everything's series-appropriate.
"The Family Guy universe is an amazing wellspring of ideas to plunder," White told the Associated Press. "It's given us a lot of latitude to develop stories...

Seattle’s dark, rain-drenched, and mildew-encrusted club scene continues to provide some of the best music the Pacific Northwest has to offer, and Legion Within has established itself as a key fixture. Formed in 2000 by William Wilson originally as a very romantic dark act, their third release The Empty Men featured a more aggressive industrial tone as the band partnered with Kmfdm’s Sascha Konietzko, Steve White and Jules Hodgson.
