You would think that Jennifer Lane, showrunner for the long-running and beloved Netflix reality hit reboot “Queer Eye,” would be a little bit blase’ by now about this Emmy stuff. Both she and her show have, after all, won in the Best Structured Reality Program category a record five consecutive years going back to 2018, receiving 35 Emmy bids and 10 triumphs all told for its seven seasons. It earned six more noms this time, including once again in the reality program category as well as for its hosts known collectively as the Fab Five and a first-time honor for director Ali Moghadas. But it turns out that Lane isn’t indifferent to any of this at all. “It doesn’t ever get old, and I’m proud because it’s hard to get good (stuff) in reality,” she says. “People don’t realize it’s like we’re dancing backwards in high-heel shoes.

Exclusive: Alyssa Milano (Brazen), Virginia Madsen (Sideways), Gina Torres (9-1-1: Lone Star) and Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us) have signed on for roles in the feature-length anthology Give Me an A, which links together 15 short films, in response to the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade.
The film currently in post-production will have been completed within two months from the date of Roe’s overturning — which eliminated the longstanding constitutional right to abortion — in an effort to ensure this is a response and not a delayed reaction. The creators, cast and crew have made a significant effort to expedite the process in order to start a conversation with audiences about the importance of bodily autonomy and address the dysfunction of a democracy that is not protecting the needs of a majority of the population. “I can quote it,” Nubia: Queen of the Amazons writer Stephanie Williams says of the first Nubia story ever published. “That’s how much I read it.”
First created by Robert Kanigher and Don Heck in the pages of 1973’s Wonder Woman #204, Nubia marked a historic moment for DC Comics at the time. This was the publisher’s first Black woman superhero. Not only that, she was initially established as Diana’s fraternal twin sister, lost to time and rival gods, returning to claim the title of Wonder Woman from her sister. For readers of the era, this marked something of a “soft reboot” for Wonder Woman, long before such a word was commonly used. It gave the creative team an excuse to re-tell Diana’s origin story, while adding new details that allowed them to bring in a substantial new character with deep ties to the title’s history.

Among the many exciting projects comes the story “Finding Batman,” which is written by Kevin Conroy with art by J. Bone and lettering by Aditya Bidikar. When Marie Javins was announced as Editor-in-Chief of DC Comics in 2020, the quote that accompanied her hiring stated, “As a young girl devouring comics of Wonder Woman, Nubia, and Supergirl, I never dreamed that decades later, I’d be at the helm of the mighty DC Comics.” A year later, on Wonder Woman’s 80th anniversary, the publisher is heading into an epic new age for Diana, Nubia, and the Amazons.
Leading into 2022’s Trial of the Amazons—the first Wonder Woman crossover event in decades—DC Comics is ramping up a series of new stories centered on the all-female race of warriors. The core Wonder Woman title reintroduces Diana after her inter-dimensional adventures and brush with death in Dark Nights: Death Metal, while Nubia and the Amazons takes readers back to Themyscira where Diana’s sister Nubia has taken the throne. This article contains major spoilers for The Suicide Squad. We have a spoiler free review here.
The Dceu is alive and well and dividing its time between Corto Maltese and Belle Reve prison. James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad gives us the most DC characters in live action in any one movie ever assembled!
Ok, fine, the vast majority of them die. And a fair portion of them most folks have never even heard of. But it still counts!
And yes, there are DC Comics Easter eggs in the movie, but perhaps not as many as you might expect. So we’ve decided to split the difference. We’re gonna give you the lowdown on all the characters, especially the obscure ones, and talk about what their existence in this movie means (or could mean) for the wider Dceu. And we’ll still give you all the DC Easter eggs we were able to spot.

Mental health issues are just another one of the real-world issues Black Lightning is ambitiously taking into its narrative stride.
This article contains spoilers for Black Lightning...
Black Lightning is having another great season. Picking up where Season 1 left off, Season 2 continues to tell a compelling, nuanced story about the importance of family and community in the face of institutional injustices, while also subverting many of the most frustrating superhero tropes in organic ways.
One such subversion has come in the normalization of therapy and, more generally, the representation of mental illness as something that can affect anyone... even and perhaps especially superheroes. In "Master Lowry," we saw main character Jennifer Pierce, a teen meta who is having trouble dealing with her burgeoning powers, begin to see a therapist.
As depicted in the storyline, Jennifer's powers aren't the issue. Sure, they magnify the consequences of her mental health problems,...
