Taylor Swift is expected to alight at the Super Bowl next Sunday — and gambling sites are ready for it.
Swift made Grammys history Sunday after “Midnights” won album of the year — her record-setting fourth win in the category. She also announced her next studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” Now, attention turns to the Super Bowl (Taylor’s Version), where her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 11 in Las Vegas.
Gambling sites are looking to capitalize on the buzz about Swift’s probable Super Bowl appearance with a series of “prop bets,” which refers to side wagers unrelated to the game itself. One of the most burning questions: Will Swift actually be able to make it to Vegas from her Feb. 10 tour date in Tokyo? (According to the math — and Japan’s embassy in the U.S. — she can.

Ti West’s X, released last year, was a Seventies-set slasher about pornographers working on the sly in a remote Texan farmhouse. It was a pleasingly nasty work, if limited by its questionable reliance on treating the ageing body as a source of repulsion. Pearl is its (far superior) prequel, a film written in two weeks by director Ti West and his star Mia Goth, shot in total secrecy and scrawled in bloodied guts and impotent rage. It is a wholly different beast – a tragicomic portrait of a woman so unable to process the falsity of her daydreams that it drives her to murder and mayhem.
In X, Goth played a wannabe pornstar named Maxine and, under layers of prosthetics, an elderly woman named Pearl who craved and resented Maxine’s youth. This film, set in 1918, sees the young Pearl living on the same farmstead featured in X. She is the daughter of immigrant parents,...

So, it’s looking like 2022’s box office final returns will be dominated by a film that’s already nabbed a spot in the all-time “top ten” earners, that’s Top Gun: Maverick of course. Ah, but will the year be mainly known for one big sequel? No, perhaps not since a prequel did very very well, the last Gru/Minions outing while another did, hmm…not so well (Lightyear). But we’re about to get another prequel that’s not animated and it’s from a flick that was released just six months ago. And since its focus is on a character from the earlier film, it could also be considered a “spin-off”. Oh, that March film was titled simply X. And I have not seen it. So this puts one of my staunchest movie beliefs to the test: you shouldn’t have to see the original to enjoy (or not) a follow-up.

Turning a deeply serious, controversial incident in recent German history into a bouncy, beat-the-odds character comedy is a brave move. Thanks in large part to the extrovert likability of German-Turkish star Meltem Kaptan — well-known in Germany as a comedian and TV presenter — Andreas Dresen’s “Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush” just about gets away with it. But that’s as far as its bravery goes. Having expended all its creative energy on that one tonal dice-roll, the film proceeds by the numbers, with the messy, provocative real-life miscarriage of justice it chronicles tamed to march to the merry beat of the inspirational true-story genre.
The action begins one October morning in 2001, in the bustling Bremen household of the Turkish-immigrant Kurnaz family. Brassy matriarch Rabiye (Kaptan) — forever cheerfully cooking, cleaning and washing up for her brood — goes to call her eldest son Murat (Abdullah Emre Öztürk) down for breakfast and...

Adelaide Clemens, Patrick J. Adams, Douglas Smith and Kathleen Turner will star in “The Swearing Jar.”
The musical romance will be directed by Lindsay MacKay (“Wet Bum”) from a script by Kate Hewlett (“Malory Towers”), who adapts her play of the same name. David Hewlett (“The Shape of Water”) and Jade Ma (“Zero Chill”) round out the cast.
“The Swearing Jar” centers on Carey, a high-school music teacher who throws a birthday concert for her husband, Simon, making them reminisce about their shared past. Through comedy, music and memory, the film will chart Carey and Simon’s relationship and the birth of their child.
Filming will take place this month in Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario. Distribution rights will be sold worldwide by Metro Films International, and the film will be released in Canada by Level Film. It’s eyeing a festival run next fall.

Nearly 40 years after dropping his famed song “In The Air Tonight,” Phil Collins is climbing up music charts again thanks to a viral YouTube video.
The song scaled up to the iTunes Top Songs chart last week, landing at No. 3, behind Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B’s “Wap” and Darius Rucker’s “Beers and Summer.” The number’s recent rise in the charts comes nearly two weeks after its iconic drum break was the subject of a video from YouTubers Fred and Tim Williams.

A film should never be overly reliant upon a twist. When done right, sudden turns in a plot can spice things up, as we’ve seen countless times in cinema. However, the wrong handling of a twist can really mess up a work. Luckily, despite leaning too heavily upon a twist almost everyone will see coming, We Summon the Darkness manages to be a lot of fun. As much as the movie follows the rules of the horror/thriller genre, it does so with a sense of humor that helps set it apart. While not a comedy, the flick knows how to have a good time, and that goes a long way. Plus, any showcase for the talented Alexandra Daddario is an added bonus. It hits VOD this weekend and is well worth a look. The movie is a tongue in cheek horror/thriller hybrid, starting out as one thing,...

Here’s a novel way to sell a soundtrack album: the score for “Deadpool 2” is being ballyhooed as the first score album ever to receive a parental advisory warning.

The offending phrases appear as choral passages in composer Tyler Bates’ massive and muscular score. In classic Deadpool fashion, they range from “you can’t stop this motherf—er” to “holy s— balls!” — sung with deadly seriousness by a 38-voice Hollywood ensemble.

While all eyes were on the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots during Super Bowl Lii, viewers were also zooming in on one of the Eagles’ biggest fans: Bradley Cooper.
Throughout the game, the Philadelphia native was frequently seen next to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and couldn’t contain himself from the moment the team ran out onto the field to when they defeated the Patriots 41 to 33 at the end of a nail-biting game.
The actor, who attended the game with his girlfriend, Irina Shayk, with whom he has an almost 1-year-old daughter, has always been a die-hard fan...

The Ultimate Fighter hasn’t exactly been that great for the last few seasons. From the coaches, to the fights and the awful decision to the move the show to Friday night there hasn’t been a lot of fan interest in the reality series. As much as the show is about the fighters living together and trying to win contracts with the Ufc it’s the coaches that generate most of the hype. The last couple of seasons (not counting the international versions) have failed to deliver on that front.

There wasn’t much of an established rivalry between the two, neither man was really near contention for a title shot and the fight just wasn’t that interesting. Then after the dud of a season Carwin gets injured and we...

Mark Tonderai directs the film scripted by David Loucka from the story by Jonathan Mostow. Pic's produced by Aaron Ryder, Tim Williams, Peter Block and Hal Lieberman. Cast also includes Gil Bellows, Nolan Gerard Funk, Kate Drummond, James Thomas, Will Bowest, Alli MacDonald and Jordan Hayes.
