Chenford fans, Eric Winter knows The Rookie Season 6 was a rough one for the couple. Just after the midway mark of the season, in “Secrets and Lies,” Tim (Winter) broke up with Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) after his past coming back to haunt him led to him lying to her then feeling like he “betrayed everything I thought was right about myself,” as he put it. “You deserve so much better. That’s why I’m walking away,” he said. “I always saw the breakup as a bit of a Ross and Rachel from Friends. It was like this couple that is at the moment of the best relationship ever and then things fall apart and they have to figure it out,” Winter tells TV Insider in the video above. “And I think that’s one of the beauties. I know fans went berserk and I totally get it. I saw it coming,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Rookie Season 6 finale “Escape Plan.”] The good news: The officers of The Rookie all survived the finale. The bad news: There’s a whole lot of trouble coming their way. Some of The Rookie: Feds agents tag along to help Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Harper (Mekia Cox) rescue Blair (Danielle Campbell), whom Monica (Bridget Regan) had kidnapped after using her, and the therapist tells them everything they need to know. Meanwhile, Monica follows through with her end of the deal after Oscar (Matthew Glave) gets her in the information she needs on the man who wanted her dead, and he’s free at the end—but he enlists Jason (Steve Kazee), Bailey’s (Jenna Dewan) ex-husband, for help and gets him out, too. Note: The following story contains spoilers for “The Rookie” Season 6 finale, “Escape Plan.”
“The Rookie‘s” strike-shortened Season 6 came to a close Tuesday night with the action-packed tenth episode, “Escape Plan.” Plus, it might have nudged the door open for a step forward in the fan-favorite relationship between Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter).
Though the duo didn’t re-spark their romance in the finale, which focused on the takedown of Monica (Bridget Regan) and Dr. Blair London (Danielle Campbell), there were still some major moments for #Chenford, as the fandom has lovingly dubbed the pair. Those moments included a heroic sequence for Lucy in the heat of action, as well as a quieter, more emotional elevator scene later in the episode, which series creator Alexi Hawley called “the most important step for the future.”
Before he looked toward what’s next, Hawley contended with the past.

The Rookie's popularity with viewers remains strong, which has earned the ABC show a renewal for a new seventh season. Pretty good news considering its spin-off, Feds, was unfortunately canceled due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
The strikes also affected the main series, as The Rookie Season 6 has only 10 episodes instead of the usual 20-22, so there hasn't been much content about our favorite members of the LAPD Mid-Wilshire Patrol Division, and next week we'll already see the finale.
And the closer we get to the end of the next chapter of The Rookie, the more revealing the events become. For example, after the last episode it became clearer who the mastermind might be this time. Only the fans were a bit confused, because the villains are getting more outlandish every season, and the regular cops are having to deal with those who are usually targeted by S.W.A.T.

With only one episode left to go in The Rookie Season 6, we can’t help but wonder where it will leave the fan-favorite couple Chenford—Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter)—after their breakup (his doing). The finale will leave them “in a warm embrace,” Winter told TV Insider on the Disney Upfront red carpet. “That’s sweet,” O’Neil said, calling it “symbolic and literal.” He added, “They are there for each other in more ways than one, and I think it’s a great reflection of how much they still really care about each other after everything they’re going through.” And hey, there may be a light at the end of the heartbreaking tunnel. “I think personally, it’s going to be exciting to see them evolve and grow and hopefully be better individuals,” said O’Neil. “Maybe they ...

The table has been set, and the stakes raised, for The Rookie‘s Season 6 finale, airing Tuesday, May 21 on ABC.
A lot happened in this week’s episode, which opened with Bradford (played by Eric Winter) being quickly benched after he was basically framed, by Pearson, for Mad Dog’s death (which was actually a suicide). Chen (Melissa O’Neill) went undercover as a nanny for one of the underworld’s premiere money launderers, only to learn that Monica (Bridget Regan) would be paying visits. Former NBC chief Paul Telegdy is getting into the podcast business.
Telegdy, who left the network in August 2020, has teamed up with Access Hollywood host Mario Lopez and The Rookie star Eric Winter, to develop a sci-fi podcast, Zone of Silence.
It marks one of the first projects to be unveiled by Telegdy since he set up The Whole Spiel with his cousin, Stefan Telegdy. In 2022, he was involved in a Falklands war drama series that was being shopped.
Zone of Silence, which is made in Spanish and English, is being produced by The Whole Spiel and Sonoro.
There are plans to develop it as a scripted television series as well as in other mediums.
The podcast will be centered around Mexico’s often mythicized Zone of Silence, a patch of desert in Durango where no radio signals can be received, which according to urban legend is caused by supernatural forces.

For all its flaws, The Rookie remains an excellent procedural that continues to delight viewers with its balanced mix of police drama, action, and comedy. Based on the true story of an LAPD officer who joined the law enforcement in his mid-40s, the show centers on the department's oldest rookie, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), who finally gets the chance to become a training officer himself in Season 5. Despite the fact that the ABC series receives mediocre scores from critics, it is very popular among audiences, earning The Rookie not only a spin-off, Feds (unfortunately canceled due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes), but also a renewal for a new seventh season.
But for now, we still have three episodes of Season 6 to go, and the plot continues to develop rapidly, providing viewers with intriguing storylines that promise to shock fans closer to the finale. As such, we saw a...

Why isn’t The Rookie new tonight, and when will new episodes return? That’s the question on fans’ minds after the last episode ended with two major cliffhangers.
In the most recent episode, Nolan (Nathan Fillion) agreed to have a baby with Bailey (Jenna Dewan).
However, the biggest shocker was Tim (Eric Winter) dumping Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) after his past sins caught up with him.
While The Rookie fans will be waiting a while longer to see the fallout of those two moments, there is some good news for fans.
ABC has officially ordered Season 7 of The Rookie, sharing the good news on Monday.

Chenford has become everything on The Rookie.
Seriously, you needn't look far to see the fanbase devoted to this pairing, and they've been loyal to both the characters individually and as a couple for as long as the series has run.
It's been a long, slow burn for this 'ship, and when it finally sailed during The Rookie Season 5, it practically broke the internet and our brains.
Finally, the long-awaited pairing was together, and we could anticipate all there was to offer with these two as a couple.
What's exciting about Chenford is that the chemistry between Melissa O'Neil and Eric Winter is fantastic and can't be manufactured.
And they have such a profound understanding of their characters and that specific dynamic, and they pour all of that into the series and the storylines that have unfolded.
That's no less the case with the big Chenford breakup during The Rookie...

Maybe the show should be called The Veteran from now on?
ABC has renewed its drama series The Rookie for a seventh season in 2024-25. The police procedural starring Nathan Fillion — which passed the 100-episode mark earlier this season — continues to draw decent-sized audiences for the network, even as it has outlived its title.
The Rookie is so named because at the show’s outset, Fillion’s John Nolan is the oldest rookie in the Los Angeles Police Department. Six seasons in, Nolan’s rookie status is long gone, but he “has used his life experience, determination and sense of humor to keep up with rookies 20 years his junior,” as ABC puts it in the season six logline. Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Jenna Dewan, Shawn Ashmore, Tru Valentino and Lisseth Chavez also star.

The Rookie will be back for another go-round. Ahead of the Season 6 finale, ABC has renewed the Nathan Fillion drama, produced by Lionsgate Television, for a seventh season.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Rookie Season 6 Episode 6 “Secrets and Lies.”] Chenford fans were delivered a crushing blow in the latest episode of The Rookie when Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), after spending much too long lying to Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil)—for her own good, he stressed!—about what he was up to when his military past came back from the dead, dropped a bombshell on her in the final moments. After lying to Ia, Tim arrived at a heartbreaking conclusion. Though Lucy said he was in an impossible situation and she would’ve done the same thing in his place, he argued she never would’ve been in that place and put her self-interest over her team. “You thought you could handle it. And you thought that Stabler family dinner was tense.
This Thursday’s Law & Order: Organized Crime (NBC, 10/9c) will find Randall and Elliot attempting to help Joe Jr., whom they’re fairly sure is using heroin. Given the episode’s official synopsis — which notes that “Joe Jr. takes drastic action when his brothers try to stage an intervention” — we’re guessing that this intervention will go roughly as well as Elliot’s in Season 1. (Maybe Joe Jr. will even blurt out “I love you” to an unsuspecting participant?)

Ladies and gentlemen, now that The Rookie is back and just a few days away from marking its milestone 100th episode, we proudly present to you…your #Chenford. And yes, they’re as great as you think.
