To create infamous cult leaders (“American Horror Story: Cult”), a legendary painter (“Genius: Picasso”), a world-renowned designer (“The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story”) and the alter-egos of 1930s Hollywood (“The Last Tycoon”) — not to mention the return of one of the most beloved characters in television (Kyle MacLachlan’s FBI agent Dale Cooper in “Twin Peaks”) — the challenges in non-prosthetic makeup were equal parts honoring history and creating a legacy.

Among the many darkly mystifying and enigmatically surreal sequences that populate director David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” revival, the eighth episode offers one its most compelling: Mr. C — the Black Lodge doppelganger of Special Agent Dale Cooper (both played by Kyle MacLachlan) — stops on a lonely, darkened highway to confront his traveling companion Ray Monroe (George Griffith) at gunpoint. After Ray shoots the evil entity himself, a bizarre pack of grimy, shadowy woodsmen emerges from the forest and tears C apart, extracting a sack containing the face of Bob, the series’ longstanding malignant spirit. Lynch leaves the sequence to be interpreted and decoded by the audience — and his crew, which shoots scenes without an exact linear context.

Setting a scripted television show in the world of mixed martial arts means accurately portraying a very physical subculture of society. So when Byron Balasco created Kingdom, he made sure to craft every detail, from the setting down to the individual tattoos each of the characters would wear with pride. It was a job Balasco took very seriously, because he knew that through Kingdom, he was not only introducing many fans to a new world, but he was also creating an accurate portrayal for those already familiar. With that in mind, Balasco decided he had to focus just as much...

Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.
First, we have the Ves, whose main category to look at is “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture,” where we find Gravity and four other nominees that are just going to have to be happy with the fact that they got nominated. This is perhaps the easiest category to call in the entirety of awards season, and I don’t mean just here, but for the Oscar as well (Last year’s winner, Life of Pi, easily took this category before going on to claim the Oscar). It’s true that films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Star Trek Into Darkness had outstanding effects as well, but nothing even came close to the amazing,...

Nathan Fillion has fans from so many places by now that anything he does is guaranteed to draw a pretty sizable crowd. He's part of the upcoming Green Lantern extravaganza, which not only includes the major theatrical release, but Green Lantern: Emerald Knights which hits on Blu-Ray, DVD, On Demand, and Download June 7th.
The last Green Lantern animated release was impressive to say the least, and this one has another brilliant voice cast, including Fillion as Hal Jordan.
Fillion had some time to talk about his role as Green Lantern, and I wanted to share it with you. Take a look, and enjoy.
Among the superhero role play games of your childhood, did you ever pretend you were the Green Lantern?
Nathan Fillion:
As a child, when you're pretending you're different super heroes, Green Lantern was the easiest because all you needed to light the fire in the imagination was the ring.

The most common cosmetic mistake women make when going to an audition is putting on far too much makeup, says Emmy-nominated makeup artist Debbie Zoller, whose credits include "Mad Men" and "Castle," among many others. "If they're shot under fluorescent light, heavy makeup doesn't help them; it just makes them look overdone. Do not wear frosty eye shadow, and avoid anything with a blue undertone. Lipsticks with a blue undertone make your lips pop out."Zoller says cosmetics have a pink, orange, or blue undertone, and if you're not sure, ask the salesperson at the cosmetic counter. The goal at an audition—or an interview with an agent, for that matter—is to look like you, only better. The makeup should enhance your face without becoming a distraction. Zoller recommends Mac and Bobby Brown cosmetics.Whatever product you use, start with a foundation, making sure the color blends with your skin.

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.
Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as...
