Can Birmingham's eclectic lucky dip of a festival help rejuvenate its Digbeth base?
Through a towering brick arch over Heath Mill Lane in the old Birmingham industrial district of Digbeth, someone has put their artistic talents to work on a lot of old car parts. They have compacted the rusting gearboxes and hubcaps into blocks and stacked them neatly in two tall piles. The pair of towers flank the entrance to a car park. At the far end, the giant word Forward is painted on a brick wall. The whole setup screams "artistic rejuvenation of former factory city". The only problem is, the car park is just that – an empty lot ringed by metal spike fencing. You can't go left or right, let alone forward. It's a dead end.
A similar scent of frustrated optimism pervaded Birmingham during the excellent Flatpack film festival. Flatpack is a six-day event that aims to spill out across Digbeth,...

When I saw Jesse Moss in The Uninvited, playing the tragically short-lived boyfriend, he didn't seem particularly impressive or memorable. But apparently he's got one thing going for him that no other actor does: His name is almost exactly the same as the lead character in Dear Mr. Gacy, and that may just be how he snagged the role in the upcoming drama. Jesse Moss will play Jason Moss, a college student who became obsessed with serial killer John Wayne Gacy, narrowly escaped an attack from him, and visited the killer on death row before ending his own life in 2006. THR says the producers are selling the story as a real-life Silence of the Lambs, but it's hard to imagine that movie working so well with Clarice biting it in the end. William Forsythe, recently seen in Rob Zombie's Halloween, will play Gacy, a Chicago resident who raped and murdered...

"Monster" producer Clark Peterson is tracking down another serial killer. Peterson will produce "Dear Mr. Gacy," based on the real-life story of Jason Moss, a college student who became obsessed with notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
The Innovative Artists-repped William Forsythe ("The Rock," "88 Minutes") will play Gacy, while Jesse Moss, who stars in Paramount's current release "The Uninvited," will play the role of Jason Moss.
European director Svetozar Ristovski ("Mirage") will make his English-language debut with the feature, directing from a script by Kellie Madison. Gordon Yang is also producing, while Tom Berry and Madison are exec producing.
The project is based on the memoir "The Last Victim" by Jason Moss, who began corresponding with Gacy in 1994, the last year of the killer's life. Moss eventually met Gacy on Death Row and even narrowly escaped an attack by him.

Word came down via THR this morning that Monster producer Clark Peterson is returning to the world of serial killers with Dear Mr. Gacy. The film will be an adaptation of The Last Victim, the memoirs of Jason Moss, who corresponded with serial killer John Wayne Gacy during the last year of the killer’s life and narrowly avoided being killed himself.
William Forsythe will star as Gacy, while The Uninvited lead Jesse Moss will take on the role of Jason Moss. Mirage director Svetozar Ristovski is making his English-language debut with the film, which starts shooting in Vancouver later this month.
It’ll be interesting to see a true-crime movie with such a well-known lead taking on the role of the clown-faced killer; hopefully this will lead to bigger and better things for Forsythe. Peterson is also producing the long discussed remake of Scanners, which currently has David Goyer on board as writer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Clark Peterson, whose credits include the Oscar-winning Monster, returns to serial-killer cinema with Dear Mr. Gacy. The movie is based on the memoir The Last Victim by Jason Moss.
Award-winning Macedonian director Svetozar Ristovski makes his English-language debut on the movie, which recounts the real-life correspondence between college student Moss and the imprisoned child murderer. Moss wound up visiting Gacy on Death Row and almost became one of his victims; following the book’s publication, he committed suicide in 2006. “The theme here is once you encounter that kind of darkness, it’s hard to escape it,” Peterson tells the trade. “Jason seemed to be a success because he had this encounter with John Wayne Gacy, wrote a book and went on television. But ultimately it came to a tragic end.”
