Veteran filmmaker Steven Spielberg has a knack for bringing people to tears, be it from his star-studded masterpieces of work like Schindler’s List or simply by his words. Surprisingly enough, one of his victims was none other than the iconic Loki portraying Hollywood heartthrob in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom Hiddleston.

This was way before Hiddleston had even joined the MCU in his fan-favorite role, back in 2010. And the way he was almost driven to tears was just through a conversation with the Indiana Jones director where the Hollywood mogul offered him a role in one of his best movies to date: Spielberg’s 2011 war/action film, War Horse.

As sweet a person as he is in real life, Hiddleston was almost pulled to tears easily as well, and all it took was the approval of mogul Steven Spielberg.

Suddenly, you’re sharing scenes with the legendary Sir Alec Guinness – Oscar winner, acting icon, and your absolute hero! That’s exactly what happened to Mark Hamill, and it was a wild ride. We’ve spoken with Hamill over the years and asked him about working with his idol, and let’s just say Guinness completely lived up to the hype. Nigerian chess champion Tunde Onakoya raised more than $120,000 livestreaming himself breaking the Guinness World Record for longest chess marathon.
Onakoya, who is 29 years old and founded the education charity Chess in Slums Africa in 2018, arrived in New York City’s Times Square April 17 with the intention of beating Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad‘s previous record of 56 hours, 9 minutes and 37 seconds.
His endeavor was supported by U.S. chess champion Shawn Martinez, who played him for the entire 60 hours (and thus has also broken the record). Both competitors were allowed to take five-minute breaks after each hour of gameplay, but otherwise had to keep gaming continuously for their time to be counted toward the record.
The pair ended up pushing for four further hours after breaking the record, finally ending at 60 hours. “We’re pushing to 60 hours, guys,” Onakoya tweeted after he and Martinez had broken the record. “We’re not stopping yet.

It's always important to watch your step when visiting a film set. There are cables snaking across the floor, expensive equipment sitting around, and random props that could mess up continuity if they're moved. But in one room on the set of Radio Silence's upcoming ballerina vampire movie "Abigail," the biggest challenge is trying not to tread on any intestines.
Though some filming took place in constructed sets and on the streets of Dublin, the vast majority of "Abigail" was shot inside Glenmaroon House. Located on the edge of Dublin's Phoenix Park, it's a party mansion built 120 years ago by playboy beer empire heir Arthur Guinness, who connected it to his adjacent family home via a footbridge so that he could switch from "family man" mode to "party animal" mode with minimal walking. Glenmaroon's luxuries include a smoking lounge, a grand stained glass window, and an indoor swimming pool -- which,...

One of The Monkees watched The Beatles create a famous part of “A Day in the Life.” Around the same time, The Monkees released their own song that was similarly avant-garde. Both of the songs are five-star classics.
The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz saw The Beatles’ record ‘A Day in the Life’ at a party
During a 2017 interview with Cleveland Scene, Dolenz explained that The Monkees’ sitcom was “about this band that was trying to be The Beatles. Trying to be famous. But on the television show, we never were [famous]. It was the struggle for success that was part of the theme of the show and I think that endeared it to a lot of kids — kids who were in their garages and basements trying to be famous.”
The connection between the Fab Four and the Prefab Four extended beyond that. Dolenz was present for the recordings of certain tracks of Sgt.

Jason Momoa has a long history and well-documented love affair with Guinness. From visiting headquarters in Ireland while filming Game of Thrones to slamming pints to get pumped for Aquaman, the actor hasn’t been shy about sharing his passion for the stout. There’s a new status update: Guinness debuted a new piece of content co-directed by and starring Momoa and produced by his production company On the Roam, a partnership that’s been in the works for more than a decade.
The spot, which hit social media Wednesday with TV spots to debut next week, opens with Momoa discovering that he’s 2 percent Irish and follows him as he dashes out of a sushi restaurant to begin the celebrations with a sprint across town to a pub. “My whole company is in it, we produced it, I co-directed it with my best friend and then I wrote it with another best friend.

As promised the onslaught of 2023 sports films marches, or in this case paddles, on. Hot on the heels of last week’s historical sports drama, comes this one based on a popular book from a few years ago. It’s not about wrestling, like Friday’s flick, but it is set in the past, though nearly fifty years before the Von Erichs. But there is an Olympic connection. This one concerns a larger team of young men defying the odds and overcoming hardship to go for the gold, rather than fame and fortune.

Like the protagonists in her new film, we existed in the same orbit but our experiences at Oxford could not have been further apart.
So I wasn’t entirely surprised to see Fennell’s dark satire get some flack since its release, particularly in the U.K., for failing to adequately skewer the upper classes while depicting scholarship kid Oliver Quick (played by Barry Keoghan) as a vampiric con artist. His mark, the blue-blooded Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), is kind-hearted and guileless, a cross between Princess Diana and Harry Enfield’s comic creation Tim Nice But Dim.

Bobi, the oldest dog to have ever lived, died on October 21 at an animal hospital after living for 31 years and 163 days, according to Guinness World Records.
Veterinarian, Dr. Karen Becker, was the first to announce Bobi’s death.
“Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him,” Becker wrote on Facebook.
The caption said hat Becker and her colleagues asked Bobi’s owner, Leonel Costa, how he managed to keep him alive for a long time.
Costa told them that the secret was “good nutrition, constant contact with nature, freedom to discover his environment, consistent veterinary care, and love. Bobi knows he’s deeply loved.”
Becker ended her caption stating, “Godspeed, Bobi… you’ve taught the world all you were meant to teach.”

Under the non de plume John Le Carre, David Cornwall penned a series of best-selling spy novels including “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” ‘The Little Drummer Girl’’ and “The Russia House,” that are cerebral, unadorned, gritty. Actor Alec Guinness isn’t a name many new-generation TV and film audiences might recognize. However, Guinness was one of the finest English actors during his heyday, known for his leading man roles. Interestingly, Guinness was consistently voted as one of the top 10 most popular British stars at the Box Office by the Motion Picture Herald. Guinness was a stage and film actor, often reluctant to work in film. Between his years as an actor, Guinness served in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He attained the rank of Lieutenant. Guinness was exceptionally gifted as an...

There were a lot of things about "Star Wars: Episode VI -- The Return of the Jedi" that gave fans closure for the trilogy. The second Death Star was blown up. The Emperor (Ian McDiarmid) was defeated. Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) finally admitted their feelings and kissed. We also found out that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Leia were siblings and saw Darth Vader redeemed and unmasked before his death. That last one might have been wonderful for fans, but for David Prowse, who did all the physical work for the role (with the voice of James Earl Jones replacing his own), it was a disappointment.
That is according to an interview with Prowse with Rock Cellar Magazine in 2012. The actor, who passed away at the age of 85 in 2020, had been a bodybuilder, helped train Christopher Reeve for his 1978 "Superman" role, and appeared in projects like "A Clockwork Orange,...

In The Zone of Interest a commander, his wife, and their four children live a life of bucolic bliss. They picnic by the lake. They doddle by the pool. When he sets off to work, she tends to the lilacs. Sat around the dinner table over würst and kohl, the girls’ hair plaited back like golden brezeln, they seem as if plucked from German romanticism. So why, you begin to wonder, is the light so dim? Why do these people not seem to mind when the dogs bark at night? And why do those barks sometimes sound like screams?

Alec Guinness's complicated relationship with "Star Wars" is well documented. Depending on his mood, he'd either call that first film "a marvelous, healthy innocence" or "fairy-tale rubbish." The intense fandom that was inspired by the 1977 original film played a role in alienating the classically trained actor who wished to be known for nuanced portrayal of Shakespearean characters instead of a space wizard, but once "Star Wars" released, his performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi became a career-defining part and Guinness had no say in the matter.
Reports differ on Kenobi's fate in that first film. What fans had heard for years was that Guinness forced that decision on Lucas because he thought the movie was a stinker and he wanted to be killed off, but in J.W. Rinzler's incredible "The Making of Star Wars," George Lucas says that was a decision he himself came to very late in the process.

ReviewThe film, which tells Itoop and Kochuthresiamma’s unusually long story of togetherness, addresses why the feelings of the elderly are no laughing matter. When 90-something Itoop finds an old love letter addressed to his 90-something wife Kochuthresiamma, he is enraged, calls for a family meeting, and looks perplexed as his children and grandchildren laugh and make jokes about it. It is the expected reaction — why is Grandpa Itoop so worked up about a 50-year-old love letter, why take it seriously at all. This is what Pookkaalam, the film which tells Itoop and Kochuthresiamma’s unusually long story of togetherness, tries to explain — why the feelings of the elderly are no laughing matter. To a large extent, the film works too. It is a stress-free, and somewhat enjoyable, two hours, if you ignore some of the humour that falls flat. This is director Ganesh Raj’s second film, after his successful debut Aanandam,...

You have to watch what you say if you’re famous these days. This week, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has been both lauded and criticised for an interview she gave with Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. Speaking about Netflix’s record-breaking Addams Family adaptation, she described aspects of the original script as not “making sense”, claiming that she “became almost unprofessional” and “started changing lines” while on set. “I can’t watch my work, but I can go home from set and say, ‘The scene that we shot today felt good,’” Ortega said. “[On] Wednesday there was not a scene in that show that I went home and was like, ‘Ok, that should be fine.’”
Her comments drew the ire of some: suffice to say, she is not the most popular figure on screenwriting Twitter at the moment. Pushing back against others’ work on set is one thing. Discussing it...

Super Bowl ads for beer, once one of Madison Avenue’s simplest bits of pitchery, have become as complex as solving a calculus equation after five shots of Jägermeister.
Opening a cold one at the Super Bowl used to be easy. Since 1989, brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev has enjoyed exclusive rights to market malt-based liquor during the Big Game. Fans came to the event expecting to see sophomoric humor from Bud Light and inspirational messages and stately Clydesdale horses from Budweiser. In 2023, any beer maker can take to the field.
Anheuser-Busch InBev’s decision to cede its rights last year and open the Super Bowl to rivals goosed “additional interest in both traditional beer and spirits commercials,” Mark Evans, executive vice president of sales for Fox Sports, tells Variety. “We will see multiple, different brands throughout the game.”

26 January 2023 – On February 17, Capitol Records/Universal Music Canada will release Niall Horan’s new single, “Heaven”—his first new solo material in almost three years. The chart-topping artist wrote the track with John Ryan and Joel Little, who also produced, and Tobias Jesso Jr. Horan recorded the song in Southern California. Pre-save “Heaven” Here. The 7” vinyl and CD editions of “Heaven,” which will be released in April, are available for pre-order now.
Niall Horan said, “One thing I’ve learned over the years is that society loves to pressure us into reaching certain milestones by a certain age. Whether that’s getting married or anything else that really should be based on our own instincts. As I’ve gotten older I’ve tried to let go of those expectations and just follow my heart. The chorus of this song is saying that what I have in my life currently is amazing.

The World War II film "The Bridge on the River Kwai" is considered a classic, and for good reason. The prisoner of war story is based on a novel, and was inspired by a true story. It also boasts a tremendous cast that includes William Holden and Sir Alec Guinness. In fact, it's the film that won Guinness — who would go on to gain worldwide fame as Obi-Wan Kenobi — the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance.
The film itself took home seven Oscars in all, including Best Picture, and has become so revered that it was selected to be part of the National Film Registry at the United States Library of Congress. It was acclaimed by both critics and audiences alike upon its release and continues to be revered to this day.

While many modern audiences know him best for his dignified performance as Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars: A New Hope," Alec Guinness had a long and successful career on stage and screen decades before taking up residence in the deserts of Tatooine.
During his celebrated career as one of Britain's best-loved actors, Guinness won awards and received a knighthood, but it was George Lucas' space opera that made him a very rich man. The actor was famously dismissive of the film and his role as Obi-Wan. In his letters published in Piers Paul Read's "Alec Guinness: The Authorised Biography" (via...
