Barbie director Greta Gerwig emerged from the elevator at the Château Marmont with producer David Heyman and her agent Jeremy Barber in tow.
Pleasantries and hugs were exchanged between them and May December filmmaker Todd Haynes and his longtime collaborators, the producers Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler. We were all waiting to go up to the hotel’s penthouse suite, with its sumptuous wraparound terrace, for W Magazine’s annual soiree to celebrate publication of its Best Performances edition, hosted by W’s editor in chief Sara Moonves and Lynn Hirschberg, who has a pretty much unerring eye for discovering talent.
Margot Robbie attends W Magazine’s annual Best Performances Party at Château Marmont on Saturday
“So, if Greta’s leaving, who’s left upstairs?” Haynes wondered aloud as he entered the lift.
Amanda Grandinetti, the Château’s managing director who’d squeezed in with us, assured us that the joint was popping upstairs.

Greta Gerwig isn’t ready to dive into the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe just quite yet.
The “Barbie” writer-director, who is slated to helm at least two Netflix films based on C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” novel series, told Total Film (via Games Radar) that she is “terrified” about tackling the I.P. project.
“I haven’t even really started wrapping my arms around it,” Gerwig said. “But I’m properly scared of it, which feels like a good place to start. I think when I’m scared, it’s always a good sign. Maybe when I stop being scared, it’ll be like, ‘Ok. Maybe I shouldn’t do that one.’ No, I’m terrified of it. It’s extraordinary. And so we’ll see, I don’t know.”

Netflix is going all-in with its upcoming Chronicles of Narnia adaptations as Barbie writer-director Greta Gerwig has been tapped to direct not one but two Narnia movies. The news was confirmed in a recent interview with The New Yorker, where Mattel executives and Gerwig’s team spoke about the upcoming Barbie movie and the ongoing search to find more intellectual property to adapt. “Greta and I have been very consciously constructing a career,” Gerwig’s UTA agent Jeremy Barber explained in the interview. “Her ambition is to be not the biggest woman director but a big studio director. And Barbie was a piece of I.P. that was resonant to her.” C.S. Lewis’ popular fantasy novels were previously adapted for a big-screen trilogy from 2005 to 2010, starring the likes of Tilda Swinton, Liam Neeson, James McAvoy, and Peter Dinklage. Netflix secured a deal with The C.S. Lewis Company in 2018, obtaining...

As part of a lengthy New Yorker piece about “Barbie,” toy company Mattel’s attempts to turn its intellectual properties into Hollywood blockbusters, and Greta Gerwig, news has slipped that the Oscar-nominated filmmaker may soon partner with Netflix for an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s “Chronicles of Narnia.”
Here’s the relevant passage, tied to her work on the upcoming “Barbie” film: “There would be other adaptations in her future – she has a deal with Netflix to write and direct at least two films based on C. S. Lewis’s ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ – but she wasn’t likely to make another movie about a toy: ‘It would have to be something that has some strange hook in me, that feels like it goes to the marrow.’ She added, ‘I don’t know if there’s a doll that anyone is as mad at.’”
Netflix hasn’t yet commented on the news.

Mila Kunis, Debra Messing and other entertainment industry figures are among those who have sent an open letter to Amazon and Barnes & Noble, asking that the controversial book and documentary Hebrews to Negroes: Wake up Black America be removed from their platforms.
The nonprofit organization Creative Community for Peace was behind the letter, claiming both Amazon and B&n allegedly “refused to remove the title and continue to profit from its bigotry.”
Kunis, Messing, Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik and songwriter Diane Warren were among 200 signatories to the letter. It was addressed to “Jeff Bezos, James Daunt, and the leaders at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.”
The protest comes in the wake of NBA star Kyrie Irving promoting the film with a tweet, then refusing to give an adequate apology. He was then suspended by the Brooklyn Nets and was ordered by the Brooklyn Nets to meet with various groups to make things right.

Anthony Hopkins paid tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman in his first reaction to his success at the Academy Awards last night, where the actor picked up his second Oscar and first since his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in 1992 pic The Silence Of The Lambs.
The Father star spoke in a video posted to his Instagram page (watch below) from his homeland of Wales, where he presumably woke up to discover the news of his unexpected win in the Best Actor category. Hopkins was a no-show at the in-person / virtual hybrid ceremony, not even making a video appearance as his triumph closed the evening thanks to an unusual running order.
Earlier this morning, Hopkins called The Father director Florian Zeller while the latter was appearing on BBC Radio 4 to discuss the film’s success. The director took home Best Adapted Screenplay for the script he co-penned with Christopher Hampton.

The gender-swapped reboot, titled “He’s All That,” has been in the works for years and recently started to gain traction again. Mark Waters, the filmmaker behind “Mean Girls” and “Freaky Friday,” is set to direct.
The film will reimagine the plot from a teenage girl’s perspective, with Easterling taking on a role inspired by Freddie Prinze Jr.’s character Zackary Siler from the original. “She’s All That” — a modern-day take on George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion” and the 1964 movie “My Fair Lady” — centered a popular high school jock who, after getting dumped by his girlfriend, attempts to transform one of the school’s nerdy outcasts into the next prom queen.

Oscar-winning actor Sir Anthony Hopkins, has written a letter to fellow actor Bryan Cranston, regarding the AMC TV series "Breaking Bad":
"..."Dear Mister Cranston.
I wanted to write you this email – so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber – I take it we are both represented by UTA . Great agency.
I’ve just finished a marathon of watching 'Breaking Bad' – from episode one of the First Season – to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. (I downloaded the last season on Amazon) A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing.
I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!
Your performance as 'Walter White' was the best acting I have seen – ever.
I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I've sort of lost belief in anything really.
But this work of yours is spectacular – absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is...

Legendary actor Anthony Hopkins loved the hell out of AMC's Breaking Bad. He enjoyed it so much that he took the time to right a glowing letter to Bryan Cranston and the rest of the crew of the show to tell them how much he enjoyed the series. He gushes about how great Cranston is as an actor, saying it's the best acting that he's ever seen. That's one hell of a compliment, especially from someone like Hopkins! Here's the letter,

When Anthony Hopkins likes something, he really puts his all into the admiration. That much is clear based on the letter he wrote to Bryan Cranston to tell him just how much he loved "Breaking Bad," from beginning to end.
In the letter, which was posted to the Facebook page of Steven Michael Quezada, who played Steven Gomez on the show, Hopkins goes to great lengths to not only compliment Cranston, but all of the cast on their monumental achievement, writing, "You and all the cast are the best actors I've ever seen."
It also sounds like Anthony is a fan of binge-watching TV shows, as he says he got through all of "Breaking Bad" in two weeks, which is no easy feat.

Bryan Cranston has won three Primetime Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Walter White on Breaking Bad.
But the actor may have received his greatest honor to date over the weekend when Sir Anthony Hopkins penned the star a personal, gushing fan letter.
The Academy Award winner tells Cranston in the note that he binge-watched Breaking Bad over the course of two weeks and, simply put, his performance as Walter White "was the best acting I have seen - ever."
It doesn't get much more praise worthy than that, does it? Read the letter in its entirety below:

Anthony Hopkins is a huge Breaking Bad fan. Like, really huge. Huge enough that he wrote a very gushy fan letter to Bryan Cranston. Bb's Steven Michael Quezada initially posted the letter on Facebook, but he has since taken it down, alas. Hopkins's agent confirmed to Buzzfeed that he did in fact write the letter, which we now present to you:Dear Mister Cranston.I wanted to write you this email – so I am contacting you through Jeremy Barber – I take it we are both represented by UTA . In June 2000, Burns was promoted to agent in the motion picture literary department, where he has spent the past decade representing both established and up-and-coming filmmakers and screenwriters.
Burns' clients include Ruben Fleischer, Phil Lord & Chris Miller, Chris Gorak, Josh Zetumer, Scott Z. Burns, Oliver Hirschbiegel, Phil Johnston, John Hlavin and David Callaham.
A product of UTA's Agent Training Program, which he joined in 1999, Hansen rose through the agency ranks, working for such agents as former UTA television partner Sue Naegle and UTA co-founder Peter Benedek.

Former Catch 23 Entertainment president Jeremy Barber has joined UTA as an agent in the motion picture department. He will represent filmmakers and be involved in the packaging and financing of independent films. The appointment marks a career change for Barber, a former attorney who ran the independent film production and management firm Catch 23 and before that was executive vp production and acquisitions at Artisan Entertainment. "Jeremy's unique experience in the representation and film packaging businesses will add value to our department," said Jeremy Zimmer, UTA board member and head of the motion picture lit department. "We're glad he has joined the team, and we look forward to his contributions."...
Jeremy Barber, who has been president of Catch 23 Entertainment since August 2000, has exited his post at the Beverly Hills-based company. Exact reasons for his departure are unclear, though sources indicated that Barber and Catch 23 founder and chairman Robert Sturm disagreed over the direction of the production and manage-ment operation. In a statement released Thursday by Catch 23 -- in which Barber's name was glaringly absent -- Sturm said: "The company will use its capacity to move quickly and aggressively toward the screen on current projects in development, and despite some bumps in the road, we are excited about continuing in the film business." Before Catch 23, Barber spent two years at Artisan Entertainment as executive vp.
