“Gabby’s Dollhouse” is among just a handful of shows for preschoolers to land on Netflix’s publicly shared Top 10 Most Popular TV list. That means not only are parents choosing it for their children under 5, they’re letting it play.
This writer, a parent who has sat through hundreds of hours of preschool TV, can say with confidence that “Gabby’s” could not make the most-streamed-hours list if the older kids and adults in the house didn’t enjoy it a bit as well — so we asked creators Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey for the secret to making preschool shows that can entertain grown-ups too.

Furthest From screened at Mill Valley Film Festival
Jessie (Amanda Christine) is a young girl living in a small trailer park community who enjoys playing with her friends and enjoying the carefree life of an eight-year-old. However, a water contamination issue is slowly forcing everyone to leave the trailer park. Feeling frustrated and powerless against the changes on the horizon, Jessie must come to terms with leaving everything behind at such a young age.
It would be wrong to not start this review without praising the simply wonderful Amanda Christine. The actor, along with all of her child co-stars,...

This candy-coloured French animation about a little space superhero waiting for his first super power to show itself is firmly aimed at younger audiences. A spin-off from a French TV series of the same name - itself based on characters created by Serge Bloch - this is a breezy enough hour or so but it's hampered by what feels like a basic translation that never quite manages to tap into enough humour or emotion to elevate it beyond its telly credentials.
SamSam (Tucker Chandler) lives with his mum, dad and his soft toy best friend SamTeddy on Saturn, a place that has a vague Jetsons meets The Incredibles vibe. The kids play soccer basket (there's a lot of portmanteau words about) and attend Cosmic School, which would be great if only SamSam had some powers to show for it. Meanwhile, on neighbouring planet Marth - where almost everything is a Fungus.
