The 2024 Producers Guild of America Awards took awards season one step closer to the Oscars.
The annual PGA Awards happened February 25, immediately following the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The awards-heavy weekend festivities also included the 2024 SAG Awards on February 24.
The nominees mirror the Academy Awards’ frontrunners list, with winner “Oppenheimer,” plus “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Barbie,” “The Holdovers,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Past Lives,” “Poor Things,” and “The Zone of Interest” among the contenders.
Formally known as the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, the Theatrical Motion Picture category for the PGA Awards has historically been an indicator of Best Picture winners, with 15 of the previous 20 winners going on to win the top title at the Academy Awards.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” director and “Maestro” producer Martin Scorsese was honored with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award for his producing work over the last half-century.

Shannon Murray, a pregnant Dallas-Fort Worth news anchor for Fox 4 Good Day, revealed news Friday about her daughter’s rare heart defect while live on-air.
Murray said that her pregnancy with daughter, Stella, who is due in March, was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia.
The condition mirrors that of Olympian Shaun White and Jimmy Kimmel’s son, who both underwent surgery to fix the altered blood flow of the rare condition.
“It means essentially that there’s a hole between the left and right side of her heart and she’s also missing her pulmonary valve, so she’ll need an open-heart surgery and other procedures to save her life once she’s born,” Murray said on the broadcast.
She shared the diagnosis during American Heart Month, adding that she and her husband, Chris, have “spent the last several months processing this news” and preparing for her delivery and care.

With early snowfall in parts of the country and the forecast of a possible El Niño pattern, all signs are pointing to a vibrant winter on the slopes. “Ski season is revving up, and like most of the past busy seasons, we are seeing high bookings and low availability already,” Tiffany Layne, CEO of Lavon Private Luxury tells The Hollywood Reporter.
Thanks to the Ikon and Epic season passes, members will discover even more perks this year. “These large passes continue to find ways to add value and make skiing more approachable for their members,” says Melissa Biggs Bradley, founder and CEO of Indagare, the members-only luxury travel company. “That means updated lifts in many ski areas, new terrain, Michelin-awarded restaurants and enhanced mobile apps.”
Here’s the latest on what’s new in Colorado, Utah, Idaho and elsewhere in the mountain west, as well as international destinations in Europe and Japan.

Forget the NFL or NBA, NBC is betting that the next big thing in streaming might be your local high school football game.
The media giant is launching a new streaming service that’s part ESPN+, part YouTube and part MasterClass, meant to appeal to families, schools and communities with amateur sports teams.
The service, SportsEngine Play, will stream live matches from amateur teams (think high schools, etc.). The company says it has 90 cameras installed in 85 venues; however, coaches or spectators can also stream matches live to the service via their own smartphones or iPads, and NBC Sports is trying to encourage as many schools and coaches as possible to take advantage of the streaming capabilities.
Matches will also be available on-demand.
The service will also launch with complementary content featuring professional athletes, a MasterClass-esque offering with guides for specific sports and general advice for dealing with pressure or mental health,...

NBC Sports Next, a subsidiary of NBC Sports focused on golf as well as youth and amateur sports, has launched a new streaming outlet called SportsEngine Play.
The service is billed by the company as the first of its kind, providing a range of live and on demand video of youth and amateur sporting events and filling a void in a growing sector of American corporate and social life. While a number of digital players offer various features for youth and amateur team members and families, the market is fragmented and social media giants hosting youth sports video don’t offer bespoke services. SportsEngine Play, which is created on a foundation built by NBC Sports, is aiming to be a centralized hub for organizations, leagues, coaches and parents.
Recent estimates from analysts have pegged the global youth sports market at more than $37 billion, which is twice the size of the NFL.

Actor Nina Dobrev and snowboarding legend Shaun White have a relationship that traces back to the Covid-19 pandemic. The pair briefly crossed paths at the Teen Choice Awards in 2012 but weren't formally introduced until years later in 2019, per People. After months of speculation, Dobrev and White made their relationship Instagram official in April 2020 after the "Perks of Being a Wallflower" star shared a post of the two playfully washing groceries at home. The couple ended up quarantining together and shared a number of their activities on social media, including going on road trips together and Dobrev giving White a haircut.
From 2020 onward, Dobrev and White have been open about their relationship and haven't shied away from gushing about one another, with the gold medalist telling People in October 2021, "Nina's incredible. What an influence on my life. Not only does she run her own show, her own world, companies she's involved in,...

Ever since The Masked Singer‘s U.S. debut in 2019, many fans have become skilled at quickly and correctly predicting who is behind the masks. The panelists … not so much. Ken Jeong has gained a reputation as the worst guesser with his out-there and often incorrect predictions. Robin Thicke has gotten it right many times, but he’s also guessed incorrectly on several occasions. Even Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger, who won Golden Ear trophies for the most accurate guesses, have been stumped. Here are The Masked Singer panelists’ worst guesses of all time.

"Tropic Thunder" has been the subject of a lot of controversies over the years. The film has been protested since its release in 2008 and continues to raise eyebrows over a decade later. Despite all the backlash, the writer-director and star Ben Stiller has never apologized for the film — or so he says.
The 2008 action-comedy was a risky satirization of some of Hollywood's more inhumane practices, one such practice being the way that disabled characters are used for Oscar bait. Ben Stiller plays a parody of a disabled character called Simple Jack in a movie-within-the-movie.
At face value and without the context of the film, Simple Jack might appear like a cruel caricature of disabled people. That's certainly the impression that fans got when U.S. Olympian Shaun White dressed up as the character for Halloween in 2018.
The Special Olympics spoke out against White when he posted a picture in the costume.

The Masked Singer has been a popular game show in the U.S. since 2019. A spinoff of the South Korean version of the show, The Masked Singer sees celebrities disguised in elaborate costumes as they perform songs in front of an audience and a panel of judges. The judges then have the chance to guess who is behind the masks. Votes determine who moves forward, and the celebrities with the least votes get unmasked.
The judges have correctly guessed celebrities many times. However, there have also been a few contestants who had the panel completely stumped and shocked. Here are the most surprising celebrity reveals on The Masked Singer.

When asked by a fan on Twitter to “stop apologizing” for his 2008 satirical comedy “Tropic Thunder,” Ben Stiller said that he makes “no apologies” for the film and that he’s still proud of it 15 years later.
“I make no apologies for ‘Tropic Thunder.’ Don’t know who told you that. It’s always been a controversial movie since when we opened. Proud of it and the work everyone did on it,” Stiller tweeted.
“Tropic Thunder” earned critical and audience acclaim when it was released for its biting, no-holds-barred mockery of all things Hollywood, from the fights between agents and studio executives to the lengths actors will go for a chance at an Oscar. Stiller directed the film and stars in it as Tugg Speedman, a declining action star looking for a career rebound by starring in a Vietnam War movie.

Earlier this week, a tweet claiming Ben Stiller had apologized for making his 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder went viral, leading to Stiller himself clarifying that wasn’t the case.
“Please stop apologizing for doing this movie,” read the original tweet. “It was and still is funny Af. Even funnier now with cancel culture the way it is. It’s a Movie. Ya’ll can just get over it. I was Dying laughing when I first saw it back in the day and so was everyone else.”
Stiller, who directed and starred in Tropic Thunder, responded by saying, “I make no apologies for Tropic Thunder. Don’t know who told you that. It’s always been a controversial movie since when we opened. Proud of it and the work that everyone did on it.”
As it turns out, a 2018 tweet by Stiller had resurfaced in which he mentioned the backlash to Tropic Thunder...

Amid cancel culture, it seems Tropic Thunder would be one of the go-to targets–to people that completely miss the point. And it has been and remains so, with the topic coming up as recently as this week, forcing Ben Stiller to respond once again.
One Twitter user claiming that liberals have been allegedly trying to “cancel” Tropic Thunder…15 years after it came out. Ben Stiller replied, “I make no apologies for Tropic Thunder. Don’t know who told you that. It’s always been a controversial movie since when we opened. Proud of it and the work everyone did on it.” (It may be worth noting that “Benny S.” is clearly a conservative and may just be trying to get a rise.) You can see the exchange below:

Hedi Slimane presented his Celine FW23 collection titled Age of Indieness at the iconic Los Angeles art deco theatre, The Wiltern, Thursday, December 8.
The electric collection was attended by Priscilla Presley, Beck, Doja Cat, Matt Bellamy, Kim Gordan, Kid Cudi and the stars of the screen included Brie Larson, Austin Butler, Dustin Hoffman and Miles Teller.
King Princess, Shaun White, Courtney Cox, Cindy Crawford, Jeremy Scott, Sky Ferreira were also at the event that showcased the Fall/Winter 2023 87-look co-ed looks.
Slimane presented a homage to his style roots of indie rock-n-roll aesthetic supported by an original soundtrack titled ‘Hello Operator’, performed by the White Stripes and written and produced by Jack White. The styling was reminiscent of the late 2000s garments of tailored skinny jeans, leather jackets, military jackets, and fringed suede that could have walked right off the streets of Camden Town in what’s now defined as the indie sleaze era.

The 48th season of Saturday Night Live kicked off with a heavy dose of self-referential humor, with ESPN’s ManningCast analyzing the late night show’s opening sketch.
With first-time guest host Miles Teller as Peyton Manning and Andrew Dismukes as brother Eli, the pair dissected a scene from Mar-a-Lago as if it were Monday Night Football.
“Oh good, a Trump sketch,” Teller deadpanned as James Austin Johnson reprised his role as the former president. “Way to mix it up.”
When Teller asked for a “fun impression” of Anthony Fauci,...

The first rule of comedy is make fun of yourself before anyone else can and, in the season opener of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, they did just that.
With the loss of seven cast members and the addition of four unknown quantities (two stand-ups, a comic actor, and a TV writer), the show’s first cold open of Season 48 went full metacomedy.

After a summer filled with cast exits and goodbyes, “Saturday Night Live” opened its 48th Season by poking fun at both frequent target President Trump and its own rebuilding period.
The sketch starred the premiere’s host Miles Teller and cast member Andrew Dismukes as sports stars and brothers Peyton and Eli Manning, in a parody of their “Monday Night Football” commentary show “Manningcast.” However, instead of analyzing the plays of a football game, the two instead turned their insight into the opening sketch of “Saturday Night Live’s” new season.
At the top of the sketch, Teller as Peyton addressed the shakeups that the series has gone through other the summer, which saw eight cast members — Chris Redd, Alex Moffat, Aristotle Athari, Melissa Villasenor, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney — announce their departures from the long-running sketch comedy series. “There are a lot of changes at the show,...

Saturday Night Live‘s season 48 opened with Miles Teller and Andrew Dismukes in a “ManningCast” sketch, humorously analyzing the show — from what the cast is doing right and wrong in their jokes to the many departures. The premiere also featured guest appearances from Jon Hamm and Shaun White.
Throughout the opening bit, Teller (playing former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning) and Dismukes (as brother Eli Manning) touched on some of the biggest news from the last few months while SNL was off, like the raid at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago, the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, how her corgis are probably happy not to be going to Prince Andrew and more.
“There were a lot of changes at the show, which could be exciting. Let’s see what they spent the entire summer coming up with,” Teller says. “We’ve got an establishing shot of Mar-a-Lago,...

With a smorgasbord of greatest hits past and perhaps present, Saturday Night Live went successfully mega-meta tonight in the sometimes bubbling over cold open of its Season 48 debut.
“I got to point out, where’s the balance politically?” asked host Miles Teller in his best Peyton Manning impersonation. “They’re making Trump Columbus jokes, meanwhile Joe Biden’s lost his damn marbles,” the Top Gun: Maverick actor added to the Andrew Dismukes-portrayed Eli Manning on the split screen as James Austin Johnson reprised his Potus 45 role from last year. “They’re not even going to mention that.”

Miles Teller made his childhood dreams come true as the host of Saturday Night Live.
In the Season 48 opener, the Top Gun: Maverick star revealed that as a kid he and his sister would re-create sketches at home including Will Ferrell’s classic Spartans Cheerleaders skit.
However, Teller, as an 8-year-old, didn’t play Ferrell’s character but rather that of Cheri Oteri’s because he “had the frame for it,” while his older sister took on Ferrell’s role.

“Saturday Night Live” started Season 48 on an extremely meta note, with a cold open sketch that roasted the recent cast turnover, and did some pretty funny mockery of the show’s frustrating reliance on lazy Trump-centered political parodies.
The bit, which basically acknowledged almost all criticism of the show as well as the commentary about the show’s health following the recent big cast exodus, featured first-time host Miles Teller as a surprisingly spot-on Peyton Manning.
Watch the cold open below:
Hosting an ESPN show alongside Andrew Dismukes as Eli Manning, they ditched sports to instead drop in on a bad “SNL” cold open sketch and rate the quality.
That sketch turned out to be yet another of the weak Trump sketches “SNL” has relied way too much on in recent years. Except instead of playing it straight, the Mannings — joined eventually by three-time host Jon Hamm playing himself — focused...
