Telltale Games has been notorious for re-writes. While The Walking Dead Season 1 didn’t face scrutiny for its story, Seasons 2 and 3 fell short of players’ expectations, and rightfully so! The abysmal developmental hell Telltale was going through was very obvious in the poor writing. The Wolf Among Us, while widely appreciated, originally had a different story. Bigby was not going to be investigating the death of Faith, but rather one very famous ‘stepsister’.
The Wolf Among Us 1 isn’t without its plotholes or narrative gaps. For those that wondered “What happened to Detective Kelsey Brannigan?”, the answer is simple- Telltale’s rewrites. Between episodes 1 and 2, Telltale underwent a huge story revamp because Bill Willingham, the creator of Fables, despised the idea of Bigby being framed for murder and chased around by Mundie cops. And this was after the initial re-write surrounding ‘the death of a stepsister’.

In a move that can only be described as incredibly badass, comic book writer and creator of "Fables," Bill Willingham, has made the series public domain. That means that anyone who wants to make commercial works based on "Fables" is not only allowed, but encouraged to do so by Willingham.
"Fables" was created by Willingham with the help of penciller Mark Buckingham, who drew the vast majority of the original series' 150 issues. The series follows the residents of Fabletown, a neighborhood in New York City that houses fairy tale and fantasy creatures who call themselves Fables, forced out of the Homelands by an evil force. The comic made compelling characters out of their flimsy fairy tale forebears, twisting tropes on their heads. For example, the series' greatest romance arc is between Snow White and Bigby Wolf, the Big Bad Wolf of legend! "Fables" ended in July of 2015 with issue 150, but...

The search for legendary creatures may not be recognized as a legitimate science, but even the harshest critics of cryptozoology have to admit that it’s fun to imagine that there might still be a little bit of magic hidden in the modern world. From Sasquatch to the Loch Ness Monster, these mythical beasts have been inspiring stories for centuries, so it makes sense that they’d eventually show up in video games.
And with so many digital cryptids to choose from (you’d be surprised with how many games manage to sneak in a Mothman reference), we’ve decided to highlight six of the most memorable Cryptid appearances in gaming. After all, there’s nothing like a good monster hunt, and I think cryptozoology is criminally underutilized when it comes to genre storytelling – especially when it comes to videogames.

When author and showrunner Gillian Flynn was adapting Dennis Kelly’s U.K. drama series “Utopia” for Amazon Prime Video, the areas she wanted to lean further into were the titular comic book that united her core characters and revealed a dark conspiracy about the outbreak of a global virus, as well as the backstory of a key character, Jessica Hyde (Sasha Lane).
“It was an opportunity where we can really tell a whole other layer of story on top of story,” Flynn says.
While Flynn and staff writer Ryan Enright penned the comic book script, the visuals came from artist João Ruas. Flynn was a fan of Ruas’ work from Bill Willingham’s comic book series “Fables,” and the fairy-tale style he used there perfectly matched what she had in mind for “Utopia.”
“I remember saying, ‘I want this to look like Arthur Rackham on acid.’ I grew up with his illustrations,...

The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley made a number of surprise announcements at the show earlier this month, with The Wolf Among Us 2 being one of them. The original, released back in 2013 by Telltale Games, is based on Bill Willingham’s popular Fables comic and casts players in the role of Bigby Wolf as he attempts to solve a murder case among the tight-knit and secretive community of Fabletown.
While it never enjoyed the same popularity and following of Telltale’s flagship The Walking Dead series, Wolf Among Us has still established a sizable fanbase over the years, with folks frequently calling for a sequel. Those requests ultimately amounted to nought but disappointment though when the developer announced last year that it would be closing down following mass layoffs. Since then, however, California-based publisher Lcg Entertainment has acquired several major licenses and assets from the former studio, confirming that it...

Although a script was originally sold to ABC for a TV pilot, the Vertigo fantasy comic book title "Fables" by Bill Willingham, continues in development as a 3D feature:
"...'Fables' imagines that all the characters from the world’s most beloved storybooks are real - real, and living among us, with all of their powers intact.
"From 'Snow White' and the 'Big Bad Wolf', to 'Goldilocks' and 'Little Boy Blue'...
"...these beloved characters are alive and well - but they’ve been exiled from the land of fairy tales.
"Escaping the mysterious 'Adversary', they have relocated to a magically camouflaged New York City neighborhood known as 'Fabletown'.
"To survive in the mundane world, the Fables will have to fight for their happily ever after..."

E3 2019 is officially in the rear view mirror and now that we’ve had time to take in the big announcements and pore over every minute detail of every video showing off Cyberpunk 2077 and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, we thought we’d address the feeling that always lingers after any major expo: Disappointment.
The kind of irrational, personal disappointment that stems from all the announcements that never were; reveals of sequels to our favourite, seemingly abandoned series’ that we’ve been wanting for years. In honour of all our unrealistic expectations, here is our list of eight video game sequels we really want (but will probably never get).
8. Lollipop Chainsaw 2
The zombie-killing fad that ran rampant through the video game industry seems to have waned in recent years, which can only mean one thing: The undead have had it too easy for too long. That’s why we need a...

I’ve been perplexed. As I’m sure so many of you have been paying at least a modicum of attention to the comings and goings of our President, no doubt you’ve seen a rise of discourse throughout your social feeds and TV screens concerning the separation of art and the artist.
Ok, it’s really an argument about whether using the national anthem as the background for non-violent protest is offensive. Okay. Follow me here, kiddos.
Among the master debaters I’ve followed, one argument floated to the top of my gaze. It was the notion that professional athletes are in fact paid to entertain and therefore should be reprimanded and subjugated to dismissal from their jobs if their actions fail to entertain the fanbase of said sports team from which they hail. In short, I think that argument is hilariously off-base. Professional athletes are in fact paid to play a game.

Years ago, when the Vertigo Comics series Fables was particularly popular, Warner Bros. was talking about making a movie based on it, and for a long time Harry Potter director David Yates was attached to direct it with it being produced by that franchise’s David Heyman.
Not that long ago, Yates dropped out of the project, and when you see Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them it might be obvious why, because the two projects certainly have similarities, dealing with fantasy and magic brought into the real world, specifically New York City.
When Lrm spoke with Heyman and Yates at the Fantastic Beasts junket last week, we asked them both about the project, firstly asking Yates whether the similarities were why he dropped out of the project.
“Do you know what's really strange? I'll tell you what's really odd,” he said. “There were two things I was quite...

Well, it’s better than the first one. That is by no means an endorsement. Instead, it’s an acknowledgment that when it comes to mainstream Hollywood trauma, few scars run as deep as Alice In Wonderland. When Tim Burton gets to Hell, this is the film that will kick off the highlights reel they screen. A near-total refutation of what makes Lewis Carroll’s enduring classic endure, that first film tested my patience in a way few Hollywood films do. I’ve said it before… to be a film critic, you need to generally love movies. You need to love the very act of walking into a theater, sitting down among a crowd of strangers, and then taking that ride when the lights go out. I’ve written before about how it’s my church, and of course, I root for that experience to be great every time it happens.

From the outside looking in, it must appear like American cinema is borderline obsessed with Snow White right now. There were the dueling films of Mirror Mirror and Snow White and The Huntsman a few years ago, a prequel to one of those called The Huntsman: Winter's War coming out in less than a month, and now THR brings word that Disney is developing a live-action film about Snow White's sister called Rose Red.
Justin Merz originally wrote the screenplay, but Snow White and The Huntsman writer Evan Daughtery came on and reworked it into something closer to the Disney animated film.
The story is a revisionist take that transposes Rose Red into the Snow White tale, making her a key player in the later moments of the classic story. When Snow White takes a bite from the iconic poison apple and falls into her Sleeping Death, her estranged sister,...

Were you growing tired of the Arkham series after so many instalments in such a short time?
Good, because in one of the biggest curveballs in modern memory, the next Batman game won’t be anything even remotely action-heavy, but instead a narrative-driven adventure from Telltale Games, the studios responsible for The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Minecraft: Story Mode and more.
Check out the debut trailer below:
Telltale’s recent output has been pretty shaky, as following the overwhelming success of The Walking Dead’s first season, they ended up signing onto everything from adapting Bill Willingham’s Fables series into The Wolf Among Us, a Borderlands spin-off, a Game of Thrones tie-in and most recently, a story mode for Minecraft. This led to a pretty noticeable drop in quality as their ageing game engine was stretched over a startling amount of properties and scenarios, yet each franchise...

Kurt Busiek is probably one of the biggest name in American comics. He started off doing freelance work for both DC and Marvel on titles like Iron Man, Avengers, and The Untold Tales of Spider-Man. In 1993, Busiek joined with superstar artist Alex Ross co-created the classic Marvels mini-series that showed the major events of the Marvel Universe from the perspective of photojournalist Phil Sheldon. From there, he created the long-running, award-winning Astro City series. Kurt Busiek is most notable for his humane approach to superheroes, making characters feel relatable despite their fantastical powers. In November 2014, Busiek teamed up rising art star Benjamin Dewey for The Autumnlands, a futuristic fantasy series about a world ruled by magic-using animal people that summon a human super soldier from the past to save the disappearing magic. However get more than they were bargaining for. The series is published by Image comics, and after a...

In 2002, writer Bill Willingham began Fables as a comics series with a simple premise: to reimagine fairy-tale characters such as Snow White, Cinderella, and the like by looking at their stories and asking, “What happened next?” That premise in less skilled hands would have proven flimsy, but Willingham has built a remarkable and sprawling comics epic out of it — an epic that is, sadly, coming to a close. After 13 years, 150 issues, and multiple spinoffs, the long-running, hugely acclaimed Fables comes to an end this week in an enormous 150-page finale. The story has centered around a version of New York City not unlike our own, but containing a hidden realm called Fabletown. There the characters we know from childhood were collected and interwoven in what would become a massive saga of fairy-tale characters living secret lives among us. Far from merely going for cheap laughs about...

Given Disney's hunger for – and success with – turning animated fairy tales into live-action stories, it was only a matter of time before the Mouse House's fairy dust alighted on a stalwart part of many yarns that usually doesn’t get much attention. Yes, Prince Charming is the latest character set for reinvention. The studio has bought an untitled script by Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son writer Matt Fogel which is being kept quiet for now, but is, according to The Hollywood Reporter, along similar reinterpretative lines to the likes of Maleficent and, to a lesser extent, this year’s Cinderella. Which admittedly did do more with his royal blandness than has been attempted much before. Though the new film will have to go some to top the imaginative lengths of the sleazy, manipulative Charming found in Bill Willingham’s Fables graphic novels. With producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman...
