Marking its fifth year, the event will pack dozens of performances into its schedule across three days from Thursday, June 6, through Saturday, June 8. Wade Bowen never stopped pouring his heart out in his songs. What’s different about him after 25-plus years of music is the amount of joy in those pours.
“We’re having so much fun playing music, we’re having so much fun writing songs and recording,” Bowen tells Rolling Stone. “I feel like we’re in this amazing groove right now, and I feel like we need to keep the pedal down.”
Bowen is talking about Flyin, his latest record, out now. But he is also talking about his world at the moment.

Since his 2019 Double Down Tour, Eric Church has upended the traditional country music live show, doing away with opening acts and choosing instead to carry the night himself by delivering three-hour concerts split into two sets. But for this year’s Outsiders Revival Tour, he was inspired by his own playlist to curate a diverse group of legends, buzz artists, and up-and-comers to join him on the road.
The result touches on all styles under the country umbrella. There’s the hard-nosed Southern rock of Whiskey Myers, the Celtic-influenced red...

Mike and the Moonpies had just finished their gig at Antone’s in Austin last Thursday when the city began to freeze. The country band had plans to rendezvous at their producer’s studio in Wimberley, about 45 minutes southwest, to work on a new album.
All five Moonpies, along with their tour manager and merchandise seller, made it, but conditions quickly deteriorated over the weekend throughout much of the state of Texas. A sold-out show they had scheduled for Saturday in Luckenbach was scrapped, and soon the power at the compound went out.

Country music made huge strides forward with streaming listeners in 2020, led by a handful of popular releases from Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen. That meant a bigger piece of a still-growing pie from a genre that has historically lagged with regard to streaming.
Year-end data from the Rolling Stone Charts shows country music posting a 19% increase in on-demand audio streams in 2020 over the previous year, which is higher than the overall increase in streams of 16%. That’s a bigger percentage increase than rock, rap/hip-hop, and R&b. The only...
