Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently opened up about one of the regrets he has.
The actor shared a video on Instagram of his father accepting a WWE belt for making pro-wrestling history in 1983 when he and Tony Atlas became the first-ever Black Heavyweight Tag Team champions. In the social media post, a young Johnson can be seen sitting in the audience after the match, celebrating his father’s win.
“Just delivering flowers to heaven to my old man, Rocky ‘Soulman’ Johnson,” the former wrestler began his lengthy caption. “He came up the hard way, and trail-blazed for all of us men of color – in any sport & level of entertainment. But it was also very important to him to pave the way for all men, any color – it didn’t matter.”
He continued, “My regret in this life is that I never had a chance to say goodbye to him, because he died suddenly.

Endeavor’s publicly traded Tko Group has named Dwayne Johnson to its board of directors, effective today. The WWE superstar has also secured full ownership of the trademarked name The Rock.
Tko is the parent company of WWE and UFC.
The name The Rock is derived from his father, WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson, who was the first Black champion in WWE history (alongside partner Tony Atlas). Johnson’s grandfather, Peter Maivia, a Samoan-American professional wrestler, was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.
Rock and WWE have inked a merchandising agreement that provides for promotion, licensing, and other services.

Dwayne brings an incredible track record of creating content and building globally recognized consumer brands, and he will play a key role in realizing our ambitions for Tko,” said Tko (and Endeavor) CEO Ariel Emanuel.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a new Superman movie - maybe! A "Man of Steel" sequel is in the works at Warner Bros. Discovery, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In an Oct. 17 article discussing the company's plans for the DC Comics Universe on screen going forward, the outlet revealed that the company has an "intense desire" to bring back Henry Cavill as Superman in a project that would "essentially be 'Man of Steel 2.'" The movie is being produced by Charles Roven and currently looking for a writer. Popsugar reached out to Warner Bros. Discovery for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Cavill debuted as Superman, aka Clark Kent, in 2013's "Man of Steel," the only solo film for his version of the character. He reprised the role officially in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," 2017's "Justice League," and 2021's "Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Tuesday’s episode of “Young Rock” is a special one. Not only does the installment chronicle Dwayne Johnson’s first-ever WWF match, but the episode was written by those who are incredibly familiar with the events chronicled within: Johnson, Hiram Garcia and Brian Gewirtz.
The episode, titled “Corpus Christi,” marks Johnson and Garcia’s screenwriting debut, while Gewirtz was a longtime head writer for WWE. Combined, the trio distilled a wealth of knowledge and memories into a half-hour episode that also includes appearances by wrestling legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H – a task that they admitted was difficult.
“There’s so much story to tell in that limited space, but Dwayne’s got a great memory when it comes to those moments – especially these moments that are so pivotal for him – so he’s a great resource for us,” Garcia (who serves as president of production at...

We're already hooked on CBS's Young Rock, a sitcom based on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's adolescence. Johnson's show is a hilarious look at his eccentric upbringing, and his experiences growing up with his wrestling icon dad Rocky Johnson (plus all his famous wrestling pals). It's clear from watching the premiere that Rocky served as a major inspiration for Dwayne, both as a father and an athlete. While Rocky sadly passed away in 2020, there's still so much to learn about the man, the myth, and the legend who helped raise The Rock.
Rocky Johnson, otherwise known as Soul Man, was a Canadian-American WWE hall-of-famer on the scene in the 1980s. He teamed up with fellow wrestler Tony Atlas to form "The Soul Patrol," together becoming the first African-American World Tag Team Champions in WWE history. He's famous to this day as being "the king of the drop-kick."

It can take many forms, from ten-man tag matches, Fatal 4-Ways, Money in the Bank, or even just tossing in a bunch of pointless singles matches featuring guys who aren’t even feuding.
Since the second WrestleMania, the show has been home to many over-the-top-rope free-for-alls featuring giants and football players.
Vince McMahon has a lot of negative qualities to him. He’s an egomaniacal, out-of-touch, petty sociopath who will chase people around the workplace with soiled underwear on a stick. Michael Kingston is a lifelong comic book and wrestling fan. In the past, various writers have attempted to create comics that mixed the two genres, but failed in spectacular fashion. In Headlocked: The Last Territory, though, Kingston creates a realistic hero in Mike Hartman who we follow on a journey in the unforgiving business. Filled with emotion and a clear passion from its writer, Headlocked is the most realistic portrayal of wrestling in the graphic novel form to date.
For his upcoming sequel Headlocked: The Last Territory Vol. 2, we follow the continuation of Hartman’s story. Kingston has taken to Kickstarter once more to raise the funds necessary to produce the book. Teaming up with him again is wrestling legend Jerry Lawler who will be providing the cover artwork. Also joining on the project in the role of guest creators are Booker T, Rob Van Dam, A.J. Styles, John Morrison,...

WWE Legends House is the first reality television program available on the WWE Network. Eight WWE legends: “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Hillbilly Jim, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Tony Atlas, Jimmy Hart, Pat Patterson, “Mean” Gene Okerlund and Howard Finkel all move in together and the hilarity ensues. While we best know these legends from watching them in the ring, Legends House offers us a look at the personal lives of our beloved childhood heroes every Thursday at 10pm on the WWE Network.
Seven episodes in and we know things about these grapplers that we may have been better off not knowing, like Tony Atlas’ foot fetish (more on that later.) Ashley, the show’s host, and her now infamous “hello boys” catchphrase puts the legends in different activities on a daily basis. Race and wrestling go together like peanut butter and jelly. When it works, Caucasian wrestler Sputnik Monroe becomes the Memphis territory’s most beloved of babyfaces by advocating for African-American fans to be allowed into buildings in order to watch him perform in the 1960s. When it doesn’t, there’s Tony Atlas as a stereotypical spear wielding African savage in the early 1990s as Saba Simba. Somewhere between these two concepts is the WWF’s Nation of Domination.
Started in 1996 as an appropriation as an angle from Memphis meant to get some steam behind Ron Simmons’ re-tooled Faarooq character, the Nation of Islam knockoff lasted for two years in the WWF, and moreso than any level of racial disharmony, the group provided an incredible springboard to create new stars like D’Lo Brown, Mark Henry, Kama (later The Godfather) and of course, The Rock.

The month of February is Black History Month and like usual, World Wrestling Entertainment will honor their performers throughout the month. We saw on Raw that they honored WWE Hall of Famer Ernie Ladd, who was a star in the NFL before his WWE career.
There are many great black wrestlers in the history of wrestling and more specifically WWE, who helped pave the way for the stars of today.
The current WWE roster has a lot of talented black performers like Big E Langston, Kofi Kingston, Titus O’Neil, Darren Young and more that look up to the men on this list and hope to one day follow in their Hall of Fame footsteps.

WWE has access to a vast library of professional wrestling’s past, with promotions like Awa, Stampede, Ecw, WCW and many more. This release is the WWE’s delving into the history of Mid South Wrestling, a territorial promotion based in Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Mid South is often referred to by old time fans and performers as one of the most influential leagues in wrestling’s history. Promoted by Bill Watts through the end of the 70’s and the first half of the 80’s, Mid South featured names like Ted Dibiase, The Junkyard Dog, Andre the Giant, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Magnum Ta and “Dr Death” Steve Williams. Where as other wrestling promotions had slow and traditional in-ring work or cartoon style performances, Mid South featured a more realistic and exciting style of wrestling that featured characters that appeared more believable.

Results from last night’s WWE Smackdown “Blast From the Past Edition” that took place in Hampton, Virgina.

He also announces that he will take on the team of Daniel Bryan and Alberto Del Rio tonight with his partner… Gene Okerlund.

The Big News: A masked Kane returned to chokeslam John Cena, Cm Punk won the superstar of the year slammy award and Triple H emerged after a two month hiatus to hype up his TLC match with Kevin Nash.
In a Nutshell: The Slammy Awards somehow ended up being a reminder of the worse things of the year instead of the best.
A Slammy Award video package opened the show which showed moments of previous ceremonies including some brief footage of Owen Hart’s hillarious victory celebration on the night when he was actually supposed to be handing out the award…. “I did it again… wooooooo!!!!” That genuinely was hysterical.
What was not so hysterical however was the segment which opened this three hour edition of Raw which saw Hornswoggle and Booker T present the slammy for the “tell me I did not just see that award”. Jr won for...

- When I first heard Darren Aronofsky was making a film about professional wrestling I was concerned. Not only did I have a particular disdain for the “sport,” but thought it unlikely that any movie about sports figures could prove to be original in a market place super-saturated with sports films. Then came even more disturbing news: two of Aronofsky’s key collaborators, cinematographer Matthew Libatique and composer Clint Mansell, would not be on board. But Aronofsky managed to do something with The Wrestler that many great filmmakers never do: he experimented. He switched up his style; he explored a segment of society frequently looked down upon by sports fans and non-sports fans alike. The end result is one of the best films of the year. Mickey Rourke’s performance is outstanding, clearly channeling his own rise and fall. The camerawork is different, yet still as jarring as the hip-hop
