The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

Hollywood has come together to make a change over the portrayal of gun violence onscreen.
Judd Apatow, Mark Ruffalo, Jimmy Kimmel, Damon Lindelof, Adam McKay, Julianne Moore, Shonda Rhimes, Eli Roth, Mark Ruffalo, Amy Schumer, and John Glickman are among the first round of signatures for a petition calling for the film and TV industry to re-examine its influence on national gun violence in the U.S.
The petition, titled “Open Letter to Our Colleagues in the Creative Community,” calls for studios to model responsible gun safety practices in productions and curb portrayals of guns in scenes involving children. The effort, led by activists Christy Callahan, the co-chair of the Brady United Against Gun Violence organization’s Regional Leadership Council, and Robert Bowers Disney, comes after the Uvalde elementary school mass shooting on May 24.
“Considering there have been over 250 other mass shootings so far this year, it’s an almost incomprehensible tragedy.

In this age of superhero movies and TV, it was only a matter of time before one of the very first masked vigilantes in popular culture returned to the screen. Sure enough, a new TV series is in development based on the classic hero Zorro. The twist is that this will be a modern-day reboot of the property in which the character is a woman.
Deadline has reported that CBS Television and Propagate have partnered up to create the project, which is currently going by the simple title Zorro, for NBC. Magnum P.I.‘s Alfredo Barrios Jr. will serve as showrunner and the Usp of this version is that it’s set to be a contemporary spin on the familiar legend, focusing on a woman named Z, who Deadline describes as “a descendant of the warrior bloodline who will go to great lengths to protect the defenseless in her community.

Under the pact, Propagate already is developing several new shows, including a re-imagining of Zorro with a female protagonist from Alfredo Barrios Jr. (Magnum Pi) and drama Home from writer Jorge Reyes (Queen of the South) — both at NBC — as well as an untitled project from Writer Melissa Scrivner-Love (Fear the Walking Dead) at CBS.
Zorro, written and executive produced by Barrios Jr., is a modern-day retelling of the Zorro mythology that follows Z, a female descendant of the warrior bloodline who will go to great lengths to protect the defenseless in her community.
Written and executive produced by Reyes — who hails from Buffalo — Home follows the Candelarias, a wealthy Puerto...

WGA, AMPTP reach “tentative” three-year deal.
The Writers Guilds of America West and East (WGA) and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) have reached a “tentative” last-minute agreement to avert the impending writers strike.
The old contract expired at midnight Pacific Time on May 1. The new deal will now need to be ratified by the WGA’s board and eventually its members.
In a statement, the WGA confirmed that the teams have “concluded negotiations and have reached a tentative agreement on terms for a new three-year collective bargaining agreement” which it said was worth “$130m more than the pattern we were expected to accept”.
The WGA cited contribution increases to the organisation’s health plan, as well as expanded protections in options and exclusivity, and an increase in Pay TV residuals, as terms that it had made gains in.
Further details of the agreement will be provided in the coming days.

Dear Colleagues –
Your Negotiating Committee is pleased to report that we have reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP that we can recommend for ratification.
In it, we made gains in minimums across the board – as well as contribution increases to our Health Plan that should ensure its solvency for years to come. And we further...

The Writers Guild of America is inching a step closer toward a potential writers’ strike.
The WGA’s negotiating committee sent a letter to members on Friday, recommending that the guild’s 12,000 members take a vote on strike authorization. It did not give a timetable for such a vote, however, and such a vote would not automatically lead to a strike.
Negotiations between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Pictures & Television Producers started March 13, but without any movement, the guild is looking to take the next step.

“On the last day of these two weeks, the companies’ proposal has barely a single hard-dollar gain for writers,” the letter said. “$51 billion in profits and barely a penny for those of us who make the product that makes the companies rich. But that’s not all. In response to our proposal to...

Former "Revenge" and "Longmire" hunk Barry Sloane has joined the cast of History's military action drama series "Six" which A+E Studios and Harvey Weinstein will produce.
The story centers on Navy Seal Team Six and their 2014 mission to eliminate a Taliban leader in Afghanistan, a mission which goes awry when they uncover a U.S. citizen working with the terrorists. Sloane will play Joan "Bear" Graves, the recently appointed leader of Seal Team Six.
Military special operations veteran David Broyles penned the script, with William Broyles ("Castaway"), Alfredo Barrios Jr. ("Burn Notice") and Karen Campbell ("Dexter") helping with the writing for the series. Bob Weinstein and George W. Perkins will also executive produce.

As we witnessed at this year's Comic-Con, Burn Notice star Bruce Campbell is always a scene stealer--even off-screen.
Of course, doling out cash to the crowd for compliments is one way to win them over--which is exactly what Campbell did at the Burn Notice panel, which also consisted of writers Alfredo Barrios Jr. and Matt Nix and actor/director Tim Matheson (Larry Sizemore). Moderating the panel this year was actor Chris Vance, who has guest-starred on Burn Notice as bad guy Mason Gilroy.

It is no secret that Bruce Campbell knows how to steal a show. Comic-Con makes no exception to that rule. Campbell lived up to fans expectations and may have possibly outdone himself this year.
This year's Burn Notice panel consisted of Writers Alfredo Barrios Jr. and Matt Nix, as well as the legendary Bruce Campbell (Sam Axe), and actor/director Tim Matheson (Larry Sizemore). Moderating the panel this year was actor Chris Vance, who has guest-starred on Burn Notice as bad guy Mason Gilroy.
The panel was perfectly balanced between honest answers to some great questions from both the crowd and Vance, and comedy provided mostly by Campbell but also from Matheson and Nix. Some of the attendees even made a few bucks from Campbell who was handing out cash for compliments.

Bruce Campbell answered the question so many were wondering. Why is there a Burn Notice panel taking place at Comic-Con?
"Why is a spy show being paraded in front of all the freaks and geeks?" he asked. "Why? Science fiction, fantasy and horror. Horror: My character's name is Sam Axe. Science fiction: If you've ever been to Miami you'll know there's lots of aliens there. Fantasy: My character Sam Axe sleeps with a string of rich Miami women and that's a fantasy to me."
Regardless, it was clear that the audience assembled were appreciative of the chance to celebrate the show, and it quickly became clear that this was to be the Bruce Campbell show.
After, of course, the applause for Michael Shanks, the surprise moderator of the panel, died down a bit.
