Exclusive: Rebecca Eskreis has signed on to direct ClearMind, a thriller about the dark side of Virtual Reality therapy and the slippery slope of using simulated life to avenge the real.
The film scheduled to enter production in Northern California next spring is the second from Eskreis, whose feature directorial debut, What Breaks the Ice, was recently released in theaters, on demand and on digital platforms via Cinedigm. 30 Miles from Nowhere’s Seana Kofoed penned the screenplay and will produce with River Place Production’s Kristin Tegtmeier Higgins (The Boy’s Gone). Miriam Hoffman is handling casting.
Eskreis is represented by Sara Alexander of Alexander Creatives and Stuart Rosenthal at Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.

Exclusive: Los Angeles’ Dances with Films has announced the lineup for its 2021 film festival, setting Oscar nominees Paul Greengrass and Michael London as the speakers for its inaugural First Films series.
The Dances With Films festival, which had to go virtual in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, is returning for an in-person 24th edition at the Tcl Chinese Theatre, between August 26 and September 12. It kicks off on the 26th with an opening night carpet celebration at the Roosevelt Hotel.
This year’s festival will showcase 40 Narrative Features, 100 Narrative Shorts, 31 Documentaries, 30 Midnight films, 26 Downbeat titles, 27 pilots, and 23 titles in the category of Dances with Kids.
Features on the lineup include Matthew Ya-Hsiung Balzer’s The Catch, starring Kyle Gallner, James McMenamin, Katia Winter and Thomas Kee; Generation Wrecks starring Heather Matarazzo and Emily Bergl; Ryan McDonough and Sean Gannet’s Last Night in Rozzie starring Jeremy Sisto and Neil Brown Jr....

Zachary Laoutides, Jaime Zevallos and Alexander James Rodriguez have been cast in Where Sweet Dreams Die, the Ave Fenix Pictures Studios dramatic thriller being directed by Mirza Esho. Production is now set to get underway in November in Chicago and New York with Covid-19 protocols in place.
The pic follows an Italian American on the verge of losing his restaurant and wife to cancer. He becomes obsessed with a Middle Eastern immigrant looking to take over the restaurant on the path to achieve the American Dream. Marius Iliescu and Emmanuel Isaac co-star in the movie, the latest from the Monica Esmeralda Leon-founded Ave Fenix, which is also aiming to start production next year on And They Called Her Paradisa, Fields of Aaru and City of Cathedrals.
Laoutides (Black Ruby) is repped by CAA, Zevallos (Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger) by Buchwald and Untitled Entertainment, and Rodriguez (Missing Link) at Cesd Youth Talent.

The Second Annual St. Louis Black Film Festival will be September 15-18 2013 at Wehrenberg Ronnies 20 Cine 5320 Lindbergh Blvd. Saint Louis, Missouri. The first St. Louis Black Film Festival was in February of 2012 and was a classic series, designed to present some black film history during Black History Month, and featured such gems as Raisin In The Sun, Superfly, and Cooley High. This year, all the films screened will be new movies and not only will feature length films be screened, but music videos, short films, and short documentaries as well.
