You may know Valkyrae (real name Rachell Marie Hofstetter) from any number of places. She’s one of the most-watched female streamers on YouTube, where she airs variety and gaming content. She’s also co-owner of the lifestyle brand and gaming organization, 100 Thieves. She even recently broke into music, collaborating with fellow streamer Fuslie and singer Ylona Garcia on the song “Echoes,” which she swears is a one-off.

If there has been a consistent message from YouTube over the past couple of years, it has been built around its vast ecosystem of creators. More recently, that has been joined by artificial intelligence, with the Google-owned video platform rolling out generative AI tools for creators, and for advertising partners.
So it is no shock that creators and AI were two hot topics of conversation at YouTube’s annual Brandcast upfront event Wednesday evening.
And while there were plenty of other surprises (performances from Billie Eilish and Finneas, and K-pop stars Stray Kids; a deal to stream WNBA games on YouTube TV; and a surprise appearance from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell), the creators, as usual, were the focus of the show.

YouTube’s message to Madison Avenue: The video giant isn’t like traditional TV — it’s bigger, with literally billions of viewers, and better at targeting relevant audiences.
At its annual Brandcast event, held Wednesday during the TV biz’s upfronts week, YouTube drilled home massive scale. On average, viewers watch more than 1 billion hours of content on TV screens daily. According to Nielsen’s total TV and streaming report for the U.S., YouTube has had the No. 1 share in streaming watch-time every month on American TVs since February 2023.
“We’re redefining what TV looks like, helping creators reach new heights and using AI to expand creativity,” said YouTube CEO Neal Mohan (pictured above), kicking off the evening’s event Wednesday.

Michelle Yeoh has had a few hits and misses on the red carpet throughout her career. But most of the time, she makes incredible clothing selections that are often sophisticated, timeless, and have sleek silhouettes.
Her most recent appearance at the 2024 Gold Gala did not disappoint; she looked elegant in a cream Schiaparelli tweed skirt suit with some quirky accessories that, I think, balanced out the ensemble’s more traditional silhouette. She did, however, appear uncomfortable in her Sergio Rossi pumps.

After ten years of streaming on Twitch, Pokimane has moved over to YouTube.
At least, for now.
Pokimane, who’s long been one of Twitch’s most-followed (to the tune of 9.3 million people) and most-watched female streamers, dropped an abrupt announcement Jan. 30 that she was leaving the platform.
“the end of an era,” she tweeted. “twitch has been my home for a decade..but it’s time to say thank you for all the memories and love during my League, Fortnite, & Among us days.”
Speculation ran rampant after the tweet, with many people wondering if she’d been poached by Kick, which has signed multimillion-dollar, nonexclusive deals with some of Twitch’s big names, including Amouranth and xQc. Others wondered if she’d follow Valkyrae, Sykkuno, LilyPichu, and more to secure an exclusive deal with YouTube.

In 2023, we began publishing weekly recaps of the most-watched sponsored videos on YouTube. After all, marketers spent nearly $1 billion on YouTube campaigns last year, and that number is projected to rise even higher.
We compiled our rankings using data from our partners at Gospel Stats. Some of our findings were obvious and to be expected:
MrBeast is the most popular creator on YouTube. Digital learning platforms like to partner with educational channels like Veritasium and Kurzgesagt. Vpn companies like to partner with…pretty much everyone.
We also drew some insights that felt new and noteworthy. Influencer marketing may not be as novel as it once was, but the industry is still subject to constant change, especially after experiencing a boom during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In all our analysis of 2023 YouTuber campaigns, four recurring themes stood out. As 2024 is underway, look out for these trends (in no particular...

Having had proven success with launching such female-founded brands as Reese’s Book Club, Shine Away, The Home Edit and Fair Play, Hello Sunshine is now looking to use its golden touch to help more women content creators.
The Hello Sunshine Collective is an incubator that offers a customized mentorship experience that helps entrepreneurial women take their brands to the next level through amplifying their unique and personal narratives, using support across Hello Sunshine’s vast network of resources in content creation, marketing, business strategy, strategic partnerships and other advice from the company’s leadership.
“I often think of the lost stories of my grandmother’s and mother’s generation that weren’t told simply because of the lack of opportunities for women to create and distribute their art. These artists and entrepreneurs had such limited experiences and opportunities for expression during that time,” Hello Sunshine founder Reese Witherspoon said in a statement.

One year after putting MrBeast on the cover of its inaugural Creator Issue, Rolling Stone has given Emma Chamberlain her close-up. Chamberlain is the star of the second-annual Creator Issue, which arrived on April 18.
Rolling Stone profiled Chamberlain for a Creator Issue cover story that tracks the winding career path the erstwhile teen vlogger has taken. The piece characterizes Chamberlain — who now hosts the podcast Anything Goes and releases easygoing travel vlogs on her YouTube channel — as an unpredictable figure who is willing to go off-script in search of artistic fulfillment. “They gave me a script, but I don’t do scripts,” Chamberlain said before presenting at an event hosted by Spotify. “I do so much better off the cuff.”
Just as MrBeast (real name Jimmy Donaldson) was the perfect choice for the first Creator Issue cover story, Chamberlain is the right person to take Rolling Stone‘s annual tradition into its second year.

At the conclusion of Women’s History Month, 100 Thieves announced an initiative that will highlight female members of the streaming community. The gaming and esports organization has announced a Spotlight Series that will include original content, a “collaborative platform,” and other initiatives that will put female creators front and center.
100 Thieves announced the Spotlight Series through a Twitter thread. The organization described its new program as an attempt to “amplify the voices” of female creators, who often have a tough time getting the same level of exposure as their male colleagues.
To give those individuals their due, 100 Thieves will showcase the channels of up-and-coming streamers. Women who are selected for the Spotlight Series will also receive fresh headshots, new peripherals, priority access to 100 Thieves apparel, and airfare to Los Angeles, where the featured creators will have a chance to visit the 100 Thieves compound.

Grace Van Dien‘s tenure on Stranger Things only lasted a single episode, but she’s settling into a longer career arc on Twitch. The actress who broke out by portraying the doomed cheerleader Chrissy is now imagining a sitcom featuring popular streamers like Disguised Toast, Valkyrae, Sykkuno, and Pokimane.
Chrissy’s untimely demise in the first episode of Stranger Things‘ fourth season made Van Dien a household name (and the subject of many memes). Though she is Hollywood royalty — the daughter of actor Casper Van Dien and the granddaughter of Golden Age star Robert Mitchum — Van Dien is also an avid gamer who enjoys Valorant and Overwatch. Her personal account became one of the top Twitch channels at the height of Chrissy-mania.
Recent developments have transformed Van Dien’s Twitch presence from a side hustle to a principal focus. She recently explained that a film produced propositioned her on set,...

YouTube‘s Global Head of Gaming is “bullish” on what’s coming down the pipeline for gamer content creators.
Following Susan Wojcicki‘s exit and Neal Mohan stepping up to become YouTube’s new CEO, Head of Gaming Leo Olebe (a former Google Play and Meta exec who joined YouTube in October 2022) told The Hollywood Reporter that Mohan is “going to push us to be better and think about what the next opportunity is.”
Olebe was brought in to replace YouTube’s former Global Head of Gaming Ryan Wyatt and former Head of Gaming Creators Lester Chen, both of whom left in 2022. He says that during his hiring process, he and Mohan had “lots of conversations” about gaming.

In his first open letter to the YouTube community this week, newly appointed CEO Neal Mohan dropped an eye-popping statistic about YouTube’s gaming efforts: Total views for gaming-related content crossed 2 trillion during the year. And as of December 2022, a YouTube rep told The Hollywood Reporter that gaming-related content brought in more than 500 million logged-in daily active viewers and more than 120 billion hours of watch time.
Suffice it to say that gaming content — which can span livestreams to traditional on-demand video — is massively popular on YouTube, which launched YouTube Gaming nearly eight years ago to compete with Amazon’s Twitch. Since then, the division has attracted top Twitch talent like Ludwig (Ludwig Ahgren), DrLupo (Benjamin Lupo), TimTheTatman (Tim Betar), Valkyrae (Rachell Hofstetter), Myth (Ali Kabbani), CouRage (Jack Dunlop) and LazarBeam (Lannan Eacott) for exclusive deals and brought gaming-friendly features like channel memberships and super chat to the main YouTube experience.

In his tenth year on YouTube, Jacksepticeye raised a cool 10 million during his annual charity stream. The Irish gamer, whose real name is Sean McLoughlin, welcomed entertainers like Jack Black, Bella Poarch, Mark ‘Markiplier’ Fischbach, and Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter as part of his 2022 Thankmas celebration.
McLoughlin has led five Thankmas events over the course of his career. In 2020, the star-studded stream resulted in a 4.6 million fundraising total, which supported Red Nose Day. A year later, McLoughlin ran it back with a Thankmas celebration that ultimately pulled in 7.6 million to benefit New Story.
The 2022 version of Thankmas featured a different charity at its center and a roster of high-profile guest stars. McLoughlin pulled out all the stops to deliver an eight-digit sum to the World Central Kitchen. Another famous Jack — Mr. Black — showed up to help the Thankmas host build a giant Jenga tower. Poarch and Valkyrae stopped by for a game of “reindeer ring toss.

Streamers can’t get enough of Times Square. Imane Anys, the Moroccan-Canadian creator known as Pokimane, is the latest influencer to be featured in the world-famous location. Thanks to Spotify, visitors to the Midtown Manhattan locus can discover a playlist of “Poki’s Picks.”
The billboard is in a prime location, right at the intersection of 42nd Street, 7th Avenue, and Broadway. On Twitter, Anys thanked Spotify for launching the ad and described it as “just another Moroccan W” — a reference to the North African nation’s victory over Spain at the 2022 World Cup. It’s not even her first win of this variety. Her channel was recently promoted on a different Times Square billboard erected by Twitch.

Other attendees included tastemakers from the online video industry’s earliest days to the present. Ryan Higa and Ludwig both showed up after previously establishing an Abe fan club on Twitter.

There’s a new face keeping watch over Midtown Manhattan. Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter has signed a deal with Gymshark, and to celebrate its new spokesperson, the activewear brand gave the popular streamer her own Times Square billboard.
Hofstetter became one of the biggest streamers on the internet by playing games like Among Us and Fortnite, but she is also a fitness enthusiast. Despite joking about her “frail gamer body,” she has posted snippets of her workout routine on Instagram.
Her deal with U.K.-based Gymshark makes her the face of a retailer known for its athleisure apparel. At the time of this post, Hofstetter is featured at the top of the Gymshark website. Customers can also peruse a collection of “Valkyrae favorites” if they want to try on some of the 30-year-old creator’s favorite fits.
For Hofstetter herself, the Times Square placement is a highlight of the Gymshark partnership.

Streamers who spend too much time online are often told that they should go outside and “touch grass.” Across a recent series of videos, several prominent 100 Thieves partners took that advice literally. 20 members of the esports and entertainment organization — including co-owners Jack ‘CouRage’ Dunlop and Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter — bid farewell to the second-annual Creator Camp by playing a massive game of ‘2 Truths 1 Lie.’
Creator Camp, first organized last year, invites 100 Thieves creators to a lakeside setting, where they can partake in classic summertime games and activities. The 2022 edition of the get-together has a new sponsor in AT&T, but its premise is mostly the same. If you’ve ever wanted to see extremely competitive gamers play incredibly low-stakes games, Creator Camp is the series for you.

During a recent stream, Leslie “Fuslie” Fu said a tearful goodbye to her beloved Twitch viewers, which led to speculation that she would soon sign with YouTube Gaming. Days later, Fu officially announced her move to YouTube by strumming a guitar, singing a song, and hanging out with her friends (and fellow YouTube signees) Valkyrae, Sykkuno, and LilyPichu.
But if Fu was so attached to her Twitch community, why would she abandon them to sign with YouTube? There are cynical answers to that question, including the ones having to do with money, but Ludwig Ahgren has a few other ideas. Valkyrae has new management.
The streaming star, whose real name is Rachell “Rae” Hofstetter, has signed with Range Media Partners. The upstart talent management firm will work with Hofstetter alongside UTA, which continues to represent the 30-year-old gamer.
Hofstetter, who plays games like Among Us and Valorant, is a rising force in the streaming community. In 2021, she was named as a co-owner of 100 Thieves. The multimedia gaming brand raised a 60 million funding round later that year.
Since the end of her two-year exclusive contract with YouTube Gaming earlier this year, Hofstetter’s primary YouTube channel has been pretty quiet. With her business ventures, she claims to be “investing away” from streaming.
Her agreement with Range links her up with a company that is eager to work across all platforms. The buzzy management firm made waves when it was established in 2020, and it endeavors to steer its “clients’ brands into areas such as Web3, E-gaming,...

Just ’cause they built a bitch, doesn’t mean she won’t fight back! On Thursday, Bella Poarch released the music video for her new song “Dolls,” and it serves as a continuation to the video for her debut single, “Build a B*tch,” which dropped last year.
The Andrew Donoho-directed video follows Poarch — accompanied by several other dolls played by Euphoria‘s Chloe Cherry and singer Madison Beer — after she and the female robots escape the factory that “created them.” (For context, watch the “Build a B*tch” video,...

In the anime Tribe Nine, roving bands of baseball players face one another extreme version of the sport. For the show's English dub, distributor Funimation decided to give one of the titular tribes a star-powered lineup. Top streamers Corpse Husband, Disguised Toast, Sykkuno, and Valkyrae have voice roles in the series, with the latter three creators teaming up as members of the Hannya tribe.
12 episodes of Tribe Nine's English dub are available through Funimation, and most of the featured creators appear in the 11th installment. On YouTube, Disguised Toast (whose real name is Jeremy Wang) shared his reaction to his v/o work, which involved a lot of grunting. Based on his commentary, he fared a lot better in the recording booth than Sykkuno; the soft-spoken streamer needed several takes to nail his role as a giggling villain in a trenchcoat. Rachell "Valkyrae" Hofstetter, who has had success on both Twitch and YouTube,...

Even as other top streamers make moves, Twitch has managed to retain one of its flagship personalities.
Imane Anys, better known to her followers as Pokimane, started streaming on Twitch in 2013 and is currently the most-followed female creator with 8.9 million fans. She made the platform announcement on Twitter, where she also launched a Tesla giveaway by way of saying thanks.
Anys signed her last multi-year deal at Twitch in March 2020 – which would put that pact on par with comparable two-year deals that have been signed by the likes of Ludwig Ahgren and Valkyrae at YouTube Gaming.

Valkyrae is a bit flummoxed about another creator’s moves in the skin care sphere, following a kerfuffle that emerged around her now-defunct cosmetics venture, Rflct.
Valkyrae, whose real name is Rachell Hofstetter, shuttered her skin care brand in November after severe backlash resulting from its claims about preventing skin damange caused by digital screens, which many found to be dubious.
At the time, Hofstetter said she wanted to make research that the company had conducted public, but wasn’t able to – which led to Rflct being shuttered roughly two weeks after being announced.
