This article contains major spoilers for Sugar episode 6.
Virtually every “spoiler-free” Sugar review that ran in advance of the Colin Farrell-starring detective series’ premiere on Apple TV+ mentioned that the project featured a big twist. While one might consider it poor taste to “spoil” that a story even contains an enormous twist, it’s hard to blame the reviewers on this one.
The twist at the center of Sugar is so wild, so out-of-left-field, and so paradigm-shifting, that it’s almost impossible not to acknowledge. It would be like trying to write about Clifford the Big Red Dog while avoiding the fact that it contains a big red dog. The problem with letting the audience know that a big twist was coming, however, is that it took forever for the show to reveal it. Four whole weeks after the two-part April 5 premiere, in fact!

Neil Gaiman is a dreamer. The prolific Hugo-, Nebula-, and Newbery-winning author has spent four decades crafting strange, beautiful, and sometimes terrifying worlds that lure in readers of all ages. His extensive bibliography includes superhero stories for Marvel and DC Comics, dark fairy tales, and a book of Norse mythology — and many of those works have taken on new life as film and TV adaptations, radio plays, or theatrical productions.
Gaiman likes to take a very active role in bringing his writing to new mediums, working with the actors and showrunners to ensure that the results both delight his devoted fans and introduce new audiences to his powerful imagination. He co-developed and served as an executive producer of The Sandman and promises “good things are coming” for its next round of episodes. 2023 was a rough year for Disney, with almost all of their films and shows losing at the box office or on streaming. The only real highlight was the third entry in the popular Guardians of the Galaxy series at Marvel. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made $845.6 Million worldwide against a budget of $250 Million. The film marked the last time director James Gunn helmed a Marvel project, and the last time the original cast would all be together on screen.
Since then, not only has James Gunn departed for Warner Bros. to head up their DC Universe of films, both Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) and Zoe Saldaña (Gamora) have expressed their desire to leave the series, leaving behind only Star Lord, Rocket and Groot from the original team.
However, not all feelings are negative, as Saldaña has expressed that she wants the series to continue. In a recent interview...

The third installment of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ hit theaters on May 5th, 2023, marking a significant success for the studio following the disappointing reception of ‘Quantumania’. Gunn initially proposed ideas for this final film in November 2014, later confirming his return as writer and director in April 2017.
However, Disney dismissed him from the project in July 2018 due to controversial Twitter posts, only to reinstate him by October of the same year. His comeback was announced publicly in March 2019, and production resumed once he completed his work on DC’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘Peacemaker’ series. Despite the movie’s success, Gunn had no plans to remain in the MCU, as he had already been appointed co-chairman and co-ceo of DC Studios, gearing up to lead a new and revamped DC Universe, replacing the existing Dceu.
In the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, by the movie’s conclusion, most of the team embarked on their own paths.

Most know Karen Gillan as Nebula in the MCU or from the newer Jumanji films. Or if you’re a weirdo like me you remember her from her great work in the third season of Ntsf:sd:suv. As her time as Nebula draws to a close, she’s been popping up in some really interesting Indie work. While her role was brief, she had quite the screen presence in last year’s Next Exit. And I’m not sure if you’re aware but Russell Crowe has been absolutely killing it lately. So I was very excited to see Gillan and Crowe team up for a new crime thriller.
Sleeping Dogs takes the viewer on a very interesting journey of discovery. Gillan’s Laura Baines is quite layered and allows a little more grey area.

Scottish actress Karen Gillan is certainly one of the hottest young stars of the modern era, best known for playing or playing Amy Pond, a primary companion to the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who, as well as Nebula in the MCU. In addition to crossplay support, the in-game event from October of last year known as Aberration Domination has made a comeback. Until March 5, players will discover hordes of menacing Aberrations have spawned across all worlds. Those who defeat these Aberrations can collect elusive Corrupted Shards, and use these shards to craft new corrupted weapons.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the great franchise experiment of modern times. It is an expanding universe telling different stories in a large movie continuity, converging in crossover events like the comic books that inspire them, with dozens of characters across dozens of movies.
Before the MCU became the creatively bankrupt and commercially unviable husk it is today, it dominated the pop culture conversation. Today, it is easy to forget that a decade ago it was unthinkable for a movie about a talking raccoon and a giant tree to be a huge commercial hit, but somehow we got a whole trilogy starring them.
That success climaxed in "Avengers: Infinity War," an unprecedented cinematic crossover that brought dozens of heroes together in a single movie, and then (briefly) killed half of them. Though these deaths were meant to be arbitrary, a throw of the cosmic dice, there was a bit of...

This article contains spoilers for "What If...?" season 2.
"What If...?" season 2 only just premiered on Disney+ and brought with it another round of fascinating adventures through the multiverse. The Marvel Cinematic Universe could have turned out any number of ways -- had certain characters made different choices along the way. This new season kicks off with a Nebula-focused episode titled "What If... Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?" As the title implies, it sees the adopted daughter of Thanos taking something of a hero's turn as a member of the Nova Corps. But that gritty hero's journey almost wandered down a dark path.
Showrunner A.C. Bradley recently sat down with IGN to break down the show's second season. In discussing the season premiere, which was written by Matthew Chauncey, Bradley explained that the whole thing came about simply because the show's creatives love Karen Gillan's work as Nebula (and...

This article contains spoilers for season 2 of Marvel’s What If…?
Season 2 of Marvel’s What If…? is full of great episodes, from Nebula’s film noir mystery on Xandar to Hela’s well-earned redemption arc. But there’s one episode that stands above the rest and introduces a new powerful hero into the MCU.
What If…Kahhori Reshaped the World? tells the story of Kahhori (Devery Jacobs) and her tribe, who live in a world where the Tesseract crash-landed on Earth in the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The Tesseract resides in a lake, which transports those who enter its waters to another realm full of harmony and unimaginable power. Kahhori is transported there while running from the Spanish colonizers who seek to take her homeland. Kahhori convinces the now-immortal members of this realm to travel back home with her to stop the invasion and protect their people.

But one question that the showrunner for Seasons 1 and 2 also asked and answered will never see the light of day, seeing as it was a “very dark” episode involving your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

The second season of What If? has been dropped by Marvel Studios in a year that has seen both the rise and fall of the MCU. The final Guardians of the Galaxy and the second season of Loki were absolute triumphs, while the rest was pretty much a let down. I’m not even going to go into the Jonathan Major fiasco, but that must have hurt the MCU, and the future of this thing doesn’t look too bright. Considering all these, it was essential for Marvel to wrap up this year strong, and the good news is that What If? has been quite successful in doing that. With the anthology format, it was a given that some of the episodes would not be that good, while others might just be extraordinary. And that’s exactly how it went. We’re going to rank the new batch of episodes...

Avengers: Secret Wars To Address Robert Downey Jr’s Sacrifice By Killing This Avenger… (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Despite the glorious Marvel time ending in 2019, 5 years later, with 2024 staring right at us, we’re still talking about how the MCU still has some tricks up its sleeves. Just like how Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man replaced Nebula (as portrayed in the comic book event Infinity Gauntlet) to eliminate Thanos, it looks like Avengers: Secret Wars will follow the same route.
The speculations of the introduction of Doctor Doom or The Beyonder to design the Battleworld, also known as Doom’s World. A little comic book flashback for those who have forgotten: Doctor Doom stole the powers from the Beyonders secretly via the Molecule Man. Hence, ‘Secret Wars’.

In the latest season of ‘What If…?’ fans were in for a surprise as Vin Diesel did not return to voice Groot. The premiere episode showcased a scenario where Nebula, now with the Nova Corps, teams up with unlikely allies like Howard the Duck, Miek Korg, and Groot to save Xandar from Ronan’s clutches and Nova Prime’s dark plans.
While Groot played a smaller role in the episode, it was evident that a different voice actor, Fred Tatisciore, took on the role, marking the first time someone other than Vin Diesel voiced the beloved character. Diesel has been the consistent voice of Groot in all previous Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, earning a substantial paycheck of around 55 million dollars for his contributions.
The reasons behind Diesel’s absence from voicing Groot in ‘What If…?’ remain unclear. However, it’s worth noting that not all live-action actors reprised their roles...

‘What if…?’ Season 2 already premiered the first three episodes. The first one dealt with the scenario in which Nebula, after defecting from the Black Order, joins the Nova Corps and saves Xandar from Ronan’s occupation and Nova Prime’s sinister plans.
She has gotten quite a big help from Howard the Duck, Miek, Korg, and our favorite Guardian of the Galaxy, Groot. Groot appeared in the first episode in a couple of scenes, and despite not having a major role, the end credits revealed that Groot was, for the first time in forever, voiced by a different voice actor as Voice actor Fred Tatisciore took over for Vin Diesel.
Diesel returned to voice absolutely all projects that featured Groot, both the adult and baby versions. Vin Diesel has earned around 55 million dollars for voicing Groot in four Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. This means Vin Diesel earned almost 14 million dollars per movie,...

Several notable actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe have talked to fitness and health magazines about their workout regimens. Karen Gillan had to do a lot of lifting and fight training to play Nebula. Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer, noted that "superhero fit" is rather different from "wrestler fit." Want to get fit like Chris Evans when he plays Captain America? Men's Health Magazine has a whole routine devoted to his body.
Comic book superheroes, since the birth of the medium, have typically represented idealized human physiques, usually fetishizing large muscles and athletic frames. Men typically all have broad shoulders and washboard abs, while women are all lithe and busty, infamously contorting their near-nude bodies in unusual ways. It's easy to see why the trend persists: young comic book fans likely enjoy projecting themselves into the most widely celebrated body types, while also ogling attractive imaginary people. Is...

By the looks of the first episode, MCU’s anthology of alternative narratives doesn’t come back empty-handed right around Christmas. The episode is of wish fulfillment in strange, tumultuous ways, as this version of Nebula’s path replaces absolute loss with the warmth of something she’s secretly craved all her life. The only thing that would make the deal even sweeter is if the classic crime thriller vibes of Nebula’s time in Xandar continued through the rest of the season.

There's been much talk of late about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the decline, that superhero movies have become oversaturated, and that the general public has been fed at least one multiverse too many.
There's truth to that statement if box office numbers are any indication. And I'd argue that some of that decline is in the over-bloated plotlines that fans got tired of keeping straight. But there's an upside to the multiverse phenomenon: Setting stories in different worlds with different rules opens the door to fresh storytelling. Even more so, telling a tale in one of these alternative realities unshackles the writer from being beholden to the machinations of the overarching sagas the MCU likes to tell.

Guardians of the Galaxy concluded its trilogy with the release of Vol. 3, delivering an emotionally charged finale. Notably, this marked James Gunn’s farewell to the MCU following his dismissal over old Tweets, subsequently taking the reins of the revitalized Dcu. Throughout the film, pivotal members of the Guardians chose divergent paths.
Gamora rejoined the Ravagers, Quill returned to Earth, Mantis embarked on a personal quest, and Nebula and Drax remained on Knowhere, safeguarding the children rescued from High Evolutionary’s experiments. The core team now comprises Groot and Rocket, with Rocket assuming leadership, while Adam Warlock, Phyla-Vel, Blurp, and Kraglin replaced many familiar faces.
Despite the significant shift, fans clung to hope for past Guardians’ cameos in future MCU ventures. However, James Gunn quashed such expectations on Instagram. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ concluded the trilogy with the release of Vol. 3, and it was an extremely emotional movie. First and foremost, it was Gunn’s last MCU movie after he was fired due to some old Tweets that got uncovered and before he took over the newly revamped Dcu. Second, as we could see over the course of the movie, half of the core members of Guardians decided to part ways and pursue other things in the Universe.

At an event last night promoting the upcoming season of its What If…? series, Marvel revealed it has another animated show in the works that’s a spin on classic IP: Eyes of Wakanda.
The reveal was part of a surprise sizzle real presented by Marvel Studios head of streaming, television and animation Brad Winderbaum. Here’s the short logline: “Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts. This is their story.”
One can imagine the possibilities, especially for the Dora Milaje, the elite group of warriors who serve as the all-female special forces of Wakanda who, in the films, are led by Danai Gurira’s Okoye.
Previously announced animated offerings X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (previously titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year) were also part of the lineup featured.
Attendees at the event reportedly saw two episodes from What If…? Season 2:

The gifts don’t stop in December at Disney+! In addition to holiday festivities all month long like the Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade and the CMA Country Christmas Special, the House of Mouse streamer will soon become the home for Whovians and Demigods.
Disney+ will deck the halls with a glut of Gallifreyan adventures and the premiere of the long-awaited “Doctor Who” anniversary specials. The first of the three debuted on BBC One and on the Disney streamer on Nov. 25, but the other two David Tennant and Catherine Tate-led serials will arrive on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9. Later in the month, ring in Christmas with the franchise’s holiday special with Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson getting their full-episode debuts.
And the wait is over for “Percy Jackson” fans, who will see the beloved Rick Riordan book series get a (hopefully) respectful adaptation with the premiere of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
