The film’s working title is “Aang: The Last Airbender.” The news was announced during Paramount’s slate presentation at CinemaCon.

Lauren Montgomery, who worked on the original “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series, is directing the project, with original series creators Michael Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko executive producing alongside Eric Coleman. William Mata is co-directing.

Jason Reitman is staying mighty busy these days. Less than 24 hours after the release of the latest trailer for "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," four major casting announcements were made for his next project, "SNL 1975." The film will attempt to tell the true story of what went on behind the scenes before the broadcast premiere of "Saturday Night Live" on NBC, highlighting the real-time bedlam with some of the most legendary names in American comedy. Reitman co-wrote the script with his "Ghostbusters" collaborator Gil Kenan and is basing the story on the firsthand accounts of those who were there. Lest we forget, Reitman's father is the legendary Ivan Reitman, so these comedy titans were the friends and colleagues of the family. If anyone can get serious insight, it's Reitman.

This article contains spoilers for the first two episodes of "Ahsoka."
Dave Filoni's latest "Star Wars" show, "Ahsoka," is full of surprises. The series follows Ahsoka Tano, former apprentice of Anakin Skywalker, as she tries to protect the New Republic from the potential threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn. She's also interested in using her quest as a way to find Ezra Bridger, a young Jedi who sacrificed himself to take Thrawn out of the Galactic Civil War in the first place. For fans of "Star Wars Rebels," it's expected that more and more characters who were introduced in animation would be making the jump to live-action, especially when you consider that some of the action — at least in early episodes — seems centered on Lothal, one of the central locations of "Rebels."
But there are a couple of characters that make the jump to live-action in the premiere episode of...

The first episode of SpongeBob SquarePants aired on Nickelodeon one month before Atlanta-based musician and content creator Oddwin was born. “One of my earliest memories is just having that on the TV,” the 24-year-old rapper-producer tells Rolling Stone. Oddwin is responsible for the Kash Krabs Records account that made the viral hit “Krusty Krew Anthem (Back on the Grill),” that’s taken the internet by storm over the past month. The track, which sounds like a formidable Atlanta rap anthem, is voiced over by convincing-sounding impressions of SpongeBob characters airing out canon-appropriate flexes.

Some critics believe that “cult movies” no longer exist. After all, how do you define an underground cult following in an age when independent films are more easily accessible than ever and you can instantly discuss movies with anyone in the world? It’s now possible to stream nearly any picture at the touch of a button, so it makes sense that the days of underground screenings and traditional word-of-mouth are long behind us.
That being said, there’s an argument to be made about a modern-day equivalent to the cult classic. The fickle tides of online engagement mean that some truly great media often slips through the cracks of the distribution system, resulting in notable works of art becoming lost in online limbo because they didn’t please the all-knowing algorithm or were just released at the wrong place and the wrong time. Hell, some of these movies can...

In the heady moments of celebration after England’s victory over Denmark in this year’s Euros semi-final, the sight of team manager Gareth Southgate prompted ITV pundit Gary Neville to comment: “The standard of leaders in this country the past couple of years has been poor. Looking at that man, he’s everything a leader should be: respectful, humble, he tells the truth.”
The former Man U right-back’s words, directed at the political rulers of a country riven by Brexit, tap into a modern craving for decency. Fed a diet of self-serving narcissism from our public figures, we hunger for more wholesome fare: moral character, humility, honesty, kindness. In the year of horrors that was 2020, that appetite was temporarily sated on TV by fictional football manager Ted Lasso.
Played in the Apple TV series by Jason Sudeikis, Ted’s thoroughgoing decency won everyone over to The Lasso Way.

There may not be a more iconic opening in the modern animation landscape than that of SpongeBob SquarePants. Only one cartoon jingle is bold enough to ask questions like “who lives in a Pineapple under the sea?” and demand to know if “nautical nonsense be something you wish.”
The show open for SpongeBob SquarePants’ second spinoff, The Patrick Star Show, has a lot to live up to then. It’s unlikely to be as infamous and influential as its forefather’s opening (because what could be?) but that doesn’t mean it can’t have some fun on its own. Thankfully, we’re happy to report that the intro for The Patrick Star Show is quite fun! And don’t just take our word for it, because thanks to the kind folks at Nickelodeon, we can exclusively reveal it right now. Take a look below:

On Friday afternoon at France’s Annecy Animation Festival, Nickelodeon gave the most detailed preview yet for the network’s second “Spongebob” spinoff, “The Patrick Star Show,” and looked back at 20 years of the global hit franchise. Announced earlier this week, “The Patrick Star Show” will debut Friday, July 9 at 7 Pm Et/Pt, followed by the premiere of Nickelodeon’s first animated original series in five years, “Middlemost Post.”
As was the case with its predecessor, nailing down exactly what kind of program the “Patrick Star Show” is can be tough. According to the show’s logline, it “follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own variety show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom.”
“It’s a family sitcom mixed with a variety show, at times a talk show and at others the characters are just on the road having adventures away from the house,...

The prequel follows a younger Patrick living at home with his family, where he hosts his own variety show for the neighborhood for his TV-turned-bedroom. Ohhhh who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SpongeBob SquarePants, of course! But what was Mr. SquarePants’ life like before he was paying down a mortgage on a large piece of fruit? Thankfully we will all soon find out.
Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years is a SpongeBob SquarePants prequel that will depict SpongeBob and friends’ life under the sea before they were “adults.” The series will find a 10-year-old SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, and others building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the titular camp.
The series is notable for moving away from the traditional 2D animation style that SpongeBob is known for in favor of 3D CGI animation. The series was originally set for the sponge’s native Nickelodeon before the powers at ViacomCBS decided it would be useful in helping launch the newly branded streaming service Paramount+.

Clancy Brown is joining Showtime’s Dexter revival as a lead opposite Michael C. Hall, Deadline has confirmed.
Brown will play villain Kurt Caldwell. Per the official description: “Caldwell was born and raised in the town of Iron Lake. In fact, some consider him the unofficial mayor of their small town. He’s realized the American dream by going from driving big rigs, just like his father did, to now owning several trucks and the local truck stop. Are ya ready kids? We’ve known for a while now that Nickelodeon was aiming to expand the SpongeBob SquarePants brand with some spinoff series. We had our suggestions as for what those should be, but it appears that Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years will be the first project of the SpongeBob Extended Universe out of the gate. Today, we have our first image from the upcoming series.
Featuring a glimpse of 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants, pal Patrick Star (wearing a very fetching camp uniform) and brace-faced Sandy Cheeks, while also offering looks at younger versions of Squidward, Mr. Krabbs, and Plankton in what appear to be camp staff roles, this first image shows off the bright, CG-created underwater world that fans can expect when the series debuts in 2021.

Kamp Koral is officially relocating its SpongeBob SquarePants prequel hijinks to the new lakefront platform of CBS All Access.
As part of a massive refurbishing to both its interface and lineup, streamer CBS All Access has announced that it will claim exclusivity of the previously Nickelodeon-bound prequel series, titled Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years. With the series having passed its original July 2020 Nickelodeon premiere window, it is now set for a streaming premiere on CBS All Access in early 2021 on a date to be revealed.
The streaming move is merely the latest from chimerical corporate parent ViacomCBS of relocating Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob offerings to the network streaming platform, having recently altered the release strategy of threequel The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run from its Covid-derailed theatrical plans toward a streaming premiere on CBS All Access, similarly set for early 2021; a move for which the prequel show’s migration will undoubtedly serve to complement.

Super Bowl ads are expensive, even for the pre-game, so in the latest teaser trailer for “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run” that will air during the big game, Mr. Krabs gives Spongebob Squarepants 26 seconds to describe everything that happens in the new movie.
“There’s fast cars, flashbacks, Snoop Dogg, robots, a wise sage, churros, the only thing missing is Gary,” Spongebob says in the clip. “Well, that was money well spent,” Mr. Krabs replies.
And yes, the trailer does have everything, including a live-action Snoop Dogg playing himself performing to a crowd of cartoon fish. And that “wise sage” is none other than Keanu Reeves’ face glowing over a mystical ball of tumbleweed. They both appear on Spongebob and Patrick’s journey as they search the ocean looking for his missing pet snail Gary.
