Writer-director John Krasinski’s upcoming summer movie If already looks like it will have plenty of friends when hitting theaters.
The Paramount movie is tracking to open to $40 million-plus, or a range of $38 million to $42 million, an impressive figure for an original family film. And based on raw data, some box office pundits believe it has a shot at $45 million to $50 million.
Unaided awareness is well above average, as well as interest and first choice. For Paramount, the tracking numbers show that the studio is able to keep to the job at hand, versus getting stymied by talks of a looming sale.
If‘s cast list reads like a who’s who of top Hollywood stars, led by Ryan Reynolds.

John Krasinski’s family film, If, will be showcasing a special big game commercial during Super Bowl Lviii. And to tease audiences, we’re treated to a little behind-the-scenes video hosted by Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski. Except, Krasinski may seem slightly different than you remember. This is because Randall Park once again steps in for Krasinski in a nod to the famous bit from The Office where Park played “Asian Jim” in an attempt to freak out Rainn Wilson’s Dwight. This time, the film’s star, Ryan Reynolds, is the one not buying this little prank. But as best as he tries to call him out, Krasinski remains two steps ahead with a behind-the-scenes video complete with Park as Krasinski.

Soon after “Saltburn” debuted on Amazon Prime, it joined the 1 million watch club on Letterboxd (the leading social media app for film lovers) and was one of the fastest to do so this year. The film has completely taken over social media due to its provocative, erotic sensibilities. “Transfixing and hypnotic, writer/director Emerald Fennell has crafted a provocative and diabolical masterpiece”, writes Awards Daily. Despite being nearly a month since its release, “Saltburn” remains in the top 3 most watched programs on the platform, film or television, in both the UK and US.

Did Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds get wind of Patrick H. Willems' "When Movie Stars Become Brands" video calling them out for prioritizing their business enterprises over their art? Less than 24 hours after the news broke that The Rock is joining forces with A24 and director Ben Safdie to take a break from his typical (which is a polite way of saying "boring") movie roles with the mixed martial arts biopic "The Smashing Machine," the trailer has dropped for "If," an original Reynolds-led fantasy comedy from a bona fide filmmaker.
Ever since "Deadpool" catapulted him onto the A-list, Reynolds has focused less on tackling intriguing projects across a wide range of genres (like he'd done up until that point in his career) and more on cultivating a brand that allows him to act while also promoting his various other professional ventures like his Aviation American Gin line or his stake in Mint Mobile.

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for If, John Krasinski’s new fantasy comedy about a young girl who is able to see everyone’s abandoned imaginary friends.
John Krasinksi is wearing a lot of hats on If. In addition to starring in the movie alongside Ryan Reynolds, Krasinski also directed, wrote, and produced the project. The actor revealed earlier this year that the movie is “extremely personal” to him, adding that he wanted to make a movie that his children could enjoy.
“If is a movie that I made for my kids because I don’t think they’re allowed to see A Quiet Place; Emily [Blunt] calls it PG-40, ‘You’ll get to see it when you’re 40!” Krasinski said. “So I had to make a movie that they could see, and I’m really, really excited about it. Tom Cruise’s latest mission won’t be hitting theaters until 2025.
Paramount Pictures has delayed the next “Mission: Impossible” by nearly an entire year, from its original date of June 28, 2024 to its new spot on May 23, 2025. Like other films of its size and scale, the eighth “Mission” movie was forced to halt production amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and won’t be completed in time to open next summer. It’s a fate that faces many big-budget tentpoles if the actors union and studios don’t resolve their contract negotiations in the coming weeks.

Minari was nominated for six Oscars Minari, 11.10pm, Film4, Tuesday, September 19
Lee Isaac Chung's semi-autobiographical film pulled off the double at Sundance, winning both the Grand Jury and Audience Awards in the US Dramatic Competition and went on to be nominated for six Oscars, although it lost out for Best Picture to Nomadland. It tells the tale of a Korean family who move to start a new life in rural Arkansas - a move that sees the shine come off the patriarch Jacob's "American dream" quite quickly as things prove tougher than he imagined. The film hits its stride when grandma comes to help look after seven-year-old David, who has a heart condition, and his sister Anne (Noel Cho). Chung explores the family microcosm through details, to paint a vibrant, emotional picture of both the family...

It’s good to know that Ben Platt and Molly Gordon’s failed childhood romance didn’t keep them from remaining life-long friends. The actors star in “Theater Camp,” a mockumentary about a performing arts summer camp co-directed by Gordon and Nick Lieberman. Said romance bloomed when Platt and Gordon were just 7 years old.
“I gave her this charm bracelet as I-guess-we’re-going-to-date-now,” Platt remembers during an appearance on this week’s “Just for Variety” podcast. “She freaked out and told her mom, ‘I’m not ready,’ so I gave it to a different girl. Instead, I gave Molly a picture frame with a picture of me and Molly in it because I was like, ‘Here’s a friendship thing.’ Then she was devastated.”
Joining Platt on the podcast was his “Theater Camp” co-star and husband-to-be Noah Galvin. “Theater Camp,” based on a 2020 short of the same name, was written...

There is a moment toward the end of "Theater Camp" where one of the campers says that being at camp has helped him accept that he's straight. His two gay dads tell him they always knew and still support him. Of course this is a joke, a parody of the more common moment where a kid has to come out to his parents as gay. But the essence of "Theater Camp" - and why it's probably my favorite queer film of the year - is in that moment. "Theater Camp" effortlessly and immediately creates a queer world, where no one - no matter their age - has to explain or defend themselves. It's a vision of a queer future.

Comedy is exceedingly difficult to pull off theatrically in the streaming age, but Searchlight Pictures is giving it the ol' college try this summer with the original comedy "Theater Camp." The good news? It looks absolutely hilarious and has been met with rave reviews coming out of film festivals such as Sundance (read our review here). Now, a trailer has arrived online, which will help give the moviegoing masses an idea of what to expect. If this is anything to go on, expect something endearing and funny.
The film hails from Nick Lieberman and Molly Gordon, who you may recognize from movies like "Booksmart" and "Good Boys." They are directing here, with Gordon also starring alongside Ben Platt ("Dear Evan Hansen"). While they may not be overly experienced feature directors, it looks like they didn't miss a beat in bringing this story to life. But enough talk, let's roll the footage.

"These people are really weird." Searchlight Pictures has revealed their fun first official trailer for the indie comedy Theater Camp, a mockumentary in the same vein as Waiting for Guffman or Best in Show. This first premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was a massive hit, one of the best of the fest, I loved it and raved about it in my own review as well. The acclaimed faux documentary film follows the eccentric staff of a rundown theater camp in upstate New York, as they band together with the beloved founder's bro-y son to keep the camp afloat, when she falls into a coma right before the summer session is set to begin. They attempt to put on a masterpiece to save their theater camp known as "AdirondACTS". The ensemble cast of this comedy includes Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon, Ben Platt, Jimmy Tatro, Patti Harrison,...

There’s nothing that sings summer like (theater) camp.
Molly Gordon’s directorial debut “Theater Camp,” which she co-helmed with Nick Lieberman, draws upon the beloved chaos of theater camp days lore. The film debuted at 2023 Sundance and boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Amy Sedaris and “The Bear” breakout Ayo Edebiri, with Tony winner Ben Platt co-writing the script and starring in a lead role opposite Gordon.
The official synopsis for “Theater Camp” reads: Tony Award winner Ben Platt and Molly Gordon star in the original comedy as Amos and Rebecca-Diane, lifelong best friends and drama instructors at a rundown camp in upstate New York. When clueless tech-bro Troy (Jimmy Tatro) arrives to run the property (into the ground), Amos, Rebecca-Diane, and production manager Glenn (Noah Galvin) band together with the staff and students, staging a masterpiece to keep their beloved summer camp afloat.

John Krasinski has more answers for the who, what and when regarding his feature film project If.
The multihyphenate turned up in Las Vegas on Thursday to make an extended appearance inside Caesars Palace during Paramount Pictures’ studio presentation at CinemaCon. First, he helped debut the first-ever look at A Quiet Place: Day One, the next installment in the franchise he created, though he left directing duties on this film to Michael Sarnoski.
Krasinski, who admitted he was jealous giving up the director’s chair after seeing the footage, stayed in the spotlight after the clip played to break news on If. What is "If"? That's a question that's been pretty difficult to answer, especially with a vague and non-descriptive title such as that. It's no fault of our own, however, as John Krasinski's newest directorial feature has been shrouded in secrecy from the moment it was announced. Considering how little we knew about his mega-hit "A Quiet Place" before it was released, this isn't a surprise.
What we do know, however, is that Krasinski has taken a sharp left turn from the auditory horror of "A Quiet Place" and into the realm of children's fantasy. If you held any doubt that this sort of genre pivot couldn't be pulled off, then the attendees at CinemaCon 2023 might beg to differ. If you held any doubt that this sort of genre pivot couldn't be pulled off, then the attendees at CinemaCon 2023 might beg to differ. Not content to show off its 2023 slate, Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation offered a few sneak peeks at next year’s releases. John Krasinski took to the stage to offer the first look at the next “Quiet Place” movie.
Written and directed by Michael Sarnoski (who helmed Nicolas Cage’s “Pig”), the New York-set prequel will star Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou and Denis O’Hare. The producers include Krasinski, Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller. Allyson Seeger and Vicki Dee Rock will executive produce.
The footage audiences saw a bustling New York City where Nyong’o is half-asleep on a bus while petting her cat. She steps to the back of the bus only to realize that the world has almost instantly plunged into hell, with ravaged buildings and catastrophic explosions. The rest is a quick montage of Nyong’o trying to survive as the aliens essentially destroy the world.

The biography and the filmmaking career path of the American auteur Lee Isaac Chung is a bit peculiar. Born to first-generation Korean immigrant parents, he grew up in rural Arkansas, studied ecology at Yale and planned to go to a medical school before giving it up for his filmmaking dream. After a number of shorts realized during his studies at the University of Utah, his shot his first feature “Munyurangabo” (2007) in Rwanda and in Kinyarwanda language (as the first ever narrative feature film). It premiered at Cannes to a great critical reception, signalling a significant talent on the rise. His next two features, “Lucky Life” (2010) and “Abigail Harm” (2012) were more to the typical American indie side, while he went back to Rwanda to co-direct a documentary called “I Have Seen My Last Born” (2015).

Awards season always turns up note-worthy moments: showstopping outfits, witty speeches or egregious faux-pas are instantly turned into memes and circulated endlessly on social media.
In 2021, one moment in particular captivated viewers worldwide, and that was watching eight-year-old actor Alan Kim – dressed in a tuxedo – tear up while accepting a Critics Choice Award for his scene-stealing part in the critically acclaimed film Minari.
After a successful season, however, which included a Bafta nod, the young star was eventually shut out of the Oscars. It was a shame – in a year of history-making nominations for the Academy Awards, seeing Kim recognised would have been the cherry on top.
But it was always a long shot. Child actors are a welcome but infrequent inclusion at the Oscars – their rarity though, does make every instance especially memorable.
In the run-up to next month’s ceremony, here is a list of the 13 youngest stars...
