Law & Order may be returning for Season 24 on NBC, but one of its most familiar faces will be gone.
Camryn Manheim’s three-season run on the procedural will end on May 16 with the Law & Order Season 23 finale.
It’s unclear at this point whether Manheim is walking away from the show of her own volition or if she becomes another casualty of the mass exodus plaguing Dick Wolf’s long-running procedural dramas across the broadcast TV landscape.
Manheim was a large part of the revival’s success and has emerged as a fan favorite in the role of Lt. Kate Dixon.
“I had the most incredible experience being a part of the Law & Order Universe, and more importantly the Wolfpack,” the actress shared in an Instagram statement.
“I’m so thankful for the three wonderful seasons that I spent with this wildly talented cast of merry pranksters.”

X-Men ’97 voice actor felt pretty sure that Thanos, the supervillain in the MCU, wouldn’t have stood a chance against X-Men’s Magneto. The powerful mutant has the ability to generate and control magnetic fields. Matthew Waterson, who voices the character in the Disney+ show, believes that Magneto could have easily taken control of Thanos’s Infinity Gauntlet and ended things relatively quickly.
X-Men ‘97‘s Magneto voice actor makes a bold claim about the character
In the original series, X-Men: The Animated Series, the character was voiced by David Hemblen, who passed away in 2020. Waterson replaced the actor in the new series, where Magneto takes over as the interim leader of X-Men as per Charles Xavier’s will.

"This world is not kind to weak people." XYZ Films has revealed the trailer for a Canadian cheerleading film called Backspot, which plays more a serious drama or intense thriller than a sports comedy or satire. This is similar to that rowing film The Novice a few years ago. This premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last year and hits US theaters in May. Devery Jacobs (from "Reservation Dogs") stars as Riley, who is given the chance to cheer with the all-star squad, Thunderhawks. With a competition looming, Riley must navigate her crippling anxiety, her relationship with her girlfriend, and also her desperate need for approval from her new coach. One positive review states: “You may think you know your sports movie tropes, but you’ve never seen them used quite this way — that is, within a queer cheerleading drama firmly focused on complex female characters — and Waterson’s Backspot delights in skewing such expectations.

Sam Waterson's departure from Law & Order left a hole that'll be hard to fill. Waterson played Jack McCoy for 30 years, making his name synonymous with the long-running police/lawyer procedural.
Someone had to take his place, and Tony Goldwyn is not only an accomplished actor in his own right but has appeared within the Law & Order universe before. (Goldwyn played Frank Goren on Law & Order: Criminal Intent.)
Goldwyn's Nicholas Baxter has only had a few episodes to shine in. He's a different type of district attorney than McCoy, so his character will take some getting used to, but the change in direction could be precisely what Law & Order Season 23 needs.
McCoy was often soft-spoken, though he could get loud when he was passionately angry and mostly stayed in his office. Baxter differentiated himself from the get-go; his first scene involved inserting himself into a crime scene and introducing himself.

When it comes British cinema, 2024 couldn’t have got off to much more of a flying start than with the release of The End We Start From. It’s been adapted from the Megan Hunter novel by Alice Birch (who has written for Succession and Normal People). It’s directed by British director Mahalia Belo (who won a Bafta for her TV movie Ellen), and stars Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Katherine Waterson and Jodie Comer. Waterson and Comer were nominated for best lead and best supporting performances at last month’s British independent film awards.

If you’re looking for recent movies about the uniquely harrowing experience of female perfectionism, there’s the Taylor Swift documentary Miss Americana, Lauren Hadaway’s gut-punching feature debut The Novice, and now Backspot, the debut feature from Canadian DJ and director D. W. Waterson. Backspot has all the trappings of an impactful story, putting capable actors like Devery Jacobs and Evan Rachel Wood in the pressure cooker of competitive cheerleading. Unfortunately, this movie is far more concerned with bassy beats and showy camerawork than it is with making a point.
Our protagonist is Riley (Jacobs), a neurotic backspot who gets recruited into an elite squad, the Thunderhawks, just before a big competition. Together with her girlfriend Amanda (Kudakwashe Rutendo) and friend Rachel (Noa Diberto), Riley tries to withstand the brutal new standards set forth by their exacting coach, Eileen (Evan Rachel Wood). What would a teen sports movie be without (deep breath): family troubles, physical trauma, classifiable disorders, emotional upheavals, demanding coaches, all-important final competitions, fraying romantic relationships, major intra-team drama, secrets, lies, drugs, drinking, partying, out of control ambition, and unchecked competitive spirit? But while all those elements might feel, sound, and look familiar, reoriented within D.W. Waterson’s feature filmmaking debut, they take on fresh power. You may think you know your sports movie tropes, but you’ve never seen them used quite this way — that is, within a queer cheerleading drama firmly focused on complex female characters — and Waterson’s “Backspot” delights in skewing such expectations for often (but not always) new ends.

For years, D.W. Waterson’s go-to performance look for their DJ sets was a purple cheerleading uniform.
“For some reason, it just really gets the audience going,” Waterson tells Variety. “Cheerleaders are hype men — they’re the best people to get people excited.”
Waterson didn’t know too much about cheer itself, but they found that wearing the outfit — combined with growing up in a sports-heavy household — made them want to dive deeper into the world of cheer. “There’s a sense of cheerleaders being misrepresented that made me really curious,” Waterson says.
After creating and directing the award-winning web series “That’s My DJ,” Waterson had been searching for the right story for their feature-length debut — and found that there was a rather large gap in the oeuvre of films about cheerleading.

Exclusive: Fiona Shaw (Andor), Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) and Chaske Spencer (The English) have entered production in NYC on Park Avenue, a new indie drama from Sundance alum Gaby Dellal (On a Clear Day), who directs from her script written with Tina Alexis Allen.
A production of Rimsky Productions and Washington Square Films, Park Avenue follows a mother and daughter who, over a fraught six weeks, reveal secrets, unravel lies and ultimately lay bare the ties that bind. Paralyzed by her life wrangling cattle in Alberta, Canada, Charlotte (Waterston) jumps into her Ford Bronco, flees her over-controlling husband, and lands back in her childhood Park Avenue apartment where she takes refuge with her mother Kit (Shaw). Rediscovering the boy she loved, now her grown doorman Anders (Spencer), and the life she left at 18, the mother and daughter explore shared history, unshared truths and find a way to face both love and loss.
