The influential imaginative novelist and poet Ursula K. Le Guin has passed away at the age of 88…
Ursula K. Le Guin was not only an author beloved by sci-fi and fantasy readers, but also one of our heroes. In the pages of her books and the lines of her poetry, she wrote wild ideas with fine precision, and in her public life, defended sci-fi and fantasy literature from snobbery with a warrior’s instinct.

In fiction, letters and speeches, Le Guin used her sharp mind and words to set people straight on all manner of ignorance and dogmatism. She wrote about gender and race with an anthropologist’s eye, challenging preconceptions about both. She wrote non-white heroes in her novels, and was frustrated by whitewashing artwork and screen adaptations that betrayed her intentions.

While the brooding hero archetype was around before Cloud rose to prominence, Final Fantasy VII's main protagonist has since become synonymous with the role. Ironically, he wasn't as much so in the original game, and in fact he even had a pretty decent sense of humor. As time went on, however, he embraced the solemn and slightly guilt ridden identity that we know so well today. Whichever version you prefer, he is one of the most identifiable and popular Final Fantasy characters in the franchise's history, and is more than deserving of the quality cosplay we've collected here. Plus, he's got one of the coolest weapons ever, so that doesn't hurt. Without further ado, here is some of the best Cloud cosplay around.

Cloud Strife has always been a fixation in the cosplay community, and that mostly stems from the history of Final Fantasy VII. There is a lot of love for that game, and those characters are still cherished by players today. Cloud has appeared elsewhere, too, and one of those sightings is in Kingdom Hearts. Sporting a new appearance, he swooped in to make all the nerds happy.
This gorgeous cosplay was done by Deviant Art user, Attyca, and the photographs were taken by Jack Liu. I do enjoy the effects that were added to the photos. It adds clarity to the colors, and I love it when those colors pop at my eyeballs.
