There was a time when West Indies cricket was the epitome of the game. The carefree and calypso style of fun-loving and unconventional but skilful approach to the game was a treat to watch.
The West Indians played to mesmerize and entertain the crowd without a care about the result. Genius was the word used by many of their players and it fit the bill perfectly especially for one of theirs, the greatest cricketer ever to play the game, Sir Garfield Sobers.
The Indian team touring the West Indies at present were privileged to shake the hands of the great man, one who could bat, bowl, field and even keep wickets at the highest level.
The word “Bazball” has now become a mantra for the England side in their quest to play attacking and attractive cricket. It takes one back to the famous 1961 Test series between Australia and the West Indies Down Under.

London, August 14 (Ian) Australian cricket great Ian Chappell has officially called time on his more than four-decade-long commentating career, said a report in Daily Mail on Sunday quoting Sydney Morning Herald.
The veteran of 75 Test matches, who ended his illustrious career with more than 5,000 runs in the longest format, reportedly said his decision to leave the broadcasting box was similar to his career retirement call.
The cricketing great began his tenure inside the media box soon after retiring from international cricket, where he led Australia in 30 Tests.
“I remember the day when I knew I’d had enough of playing cricket,” the 78-year-old, who signed in 1980 with Channel 9 and has worked with the ABC, told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I looked at the clock and it was five past 11 on a day of play and I thought, ‘S***, if you’re clock-watching at that time, I have to go,...

Melbourne, Dec 27 (Ians) Australia left-arm pace bowler Mitchell Starc on Sunday became the ninth Australian bowler to get to 250 Test wickets when he removed India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant in his 11th over of the innings during the second day's play of the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Starc, who reached the milestone in his 59th Test, had on Saturday removed Mayank Agarwal for a duck for his 249th to go clear of former Australia leg-spinner Richie Benaud's haul of 248 wickets.
The 30-year-old Starc was instrumental in helping Australia dismiss India for 244 in the first innings of the first Test, taking four wickets for 53 runs last week.
Pant's wicket was crucial for Australia as he was looking good on 29 and had added 57 runs with Ajinkya Rahane for the fifth wicket.
Starc's Australia teammate, off-spinner Nathan Lyon is eight wickets short of 400 wickets.
Shane Warne (708 wickets), Glenn McGrath (563), Lyon...

We Do need another hero.
But it's not an angry chap called Max. Instead, Charlize Theron's honourable heroine Furiosa dominates a bonkers and brilliant action movie that's relentlessly thrilling and full of surprises.
It's been three decades since Mel Gibson's policeman turned vigilante Max Rockatansky left the Thunderdome in the franchise's third instalment. The sands of time and pixels of TMZ have removed the leading star from the equation, but the infectious attitude and wild nature of this new incarnation are still the same thanks to co-creator, writer and director George Miller remaining at the helm.

BBC One and ITV have attempted to bring magic back to primetime on a number of occasions in recent years, but without fail it's always bombed. Why they haven't got their chequebooks out for Dynamo and snaffled him away from UKTV remains almost as big a mystery as some of the Bradford lad's tricks.
The third series of his Magician Impossible show launched this week and if I could only watch one show again from the last seven days, I'd make it this.
One of the biggest problems with magic tricks is that they are all variations on a similar theme. Dynamo's repertoire is no different and the majority of his skits in this opening episode can probably all be explained with a similar methodology.
But it's his down-to-earth Yorkshire charm and the swanky production that means I don't care if he's basically pulling off the same trick with...

Qantas is running a campaign to promote its discounted fares season, the ‘Qantas Global Sale’.
The ad features what appears to be a romantic encounter between a woman and a man in a luxurious hotel room, until it becomes obvious that his cricket whites have got stains on them.
The narrator in the ad, with an accent reminiscent of Richie Benaud, ‘The cricket’s almost over. The global sale is now on’.
Last year, Droga5 won the bulk of Qantas’ advertising work from Publicis Mojo. It is unclear which of the two agencies created this campaign, and Qantas did not respond to Mumbrella’s questions.
