According to recent reports, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi received a 65% return on her investments in 2023, exceeding the overall market performance by a wide margin. That is over double the S&P 500’s overall 24% gain.
Her portfolio dropped to 19.8% in 2022 after she announced a sale of 25,000 shares of Nvidia.
The New York Post reported in December that Pelosi bought back approximately 50 call options worth $2 million in the company towards the end of 2023, according to securities filings.
There is no suggestion that Pelosi did anything illegal with her trades.
She profited from Nvidia’s valuation surpassing $1 trillion and owns millions of dollars worth of Microsoft and Apple stock, which have risen around 55% this year.
Her gains in Nvidia are due to the success of artificial intelligence.
Following these reports, her fellow Democrats have called for a ban on stock trades by members of Congress. The ban has bipartisan support on Capitol Hill.

Bill Maher was angry that certain messages get attention and certain others do not on his Friday Real Time show on HBO.
He led off with a prime example of that in an interview with Alexandra Pelosi (daughter of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi), the director and producer of the HBO Original documentary The Insurrectionist Next Door, which debuted October 15.
The film talks to several people who stormed the Capitol building on Jan. 6 about what brought them to Washington, D.C. on that fateful day, and whether their views have shifted since.
Maher noted that the people in the film are “remarkably relatable and likable.”
“It’s the forgotten man,” Pelosi said. “They fell behind this great American dream, they’re feeling left behind.”

In HBO’s The Insurrectionist Next Door Alexandra Pelosi comes across as a charming and sympathetic bull in a china shop, eager to understand, find common ground with or at least provide a platform for people with whom she agrees on very little. That would be nearly everyone she talks to here. The veteran documentarian (Journeys with George, Fall to Grace) wants to know what compelled those who took part in the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol, and how they might feel about it all now that they’re facing prison time(or,...

Back in October, when documentary footage emerged of Nancy Pelosi from January 6, 2021 — footage whose juiciest elements included the then-speaker of the House saying she wished she could go to jail for punching the then-president of the United States — reactions from the right were predictable. And banal.
A frequent refrain around Twitter and other social media declared it mighty suspicious that on such an otherwise innocuous day, Nancy Pelosi would just happen to be followed by a documentary crew — as if this validated the idea that January 6 was a false flag operation. There was skeptical Zapruder-like analysis of what the footage did or did not show.
Let’s leave out whatever probative value the footage does or doesn’t have. Let the January 6 Committee decide. Or not. Let’s get to the first part of the conspiratorial blather: Alexandra Pelosi, not even vaguely coincidentally Nancy Pelosi’s daughter,...

Hours after the January 6th Committee showed behind-the-scenes footage of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other congressional leaders calling and even begging federal officials and others for resources to stop the attack on the Capitol, CNN showed extended clips throughout much of Anderson Cooper’s AC360.
The clips were riveting, capturing Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell working in unison to try to secure federal and state law and enforcement to quell the violence. As the Capitol was breached, the congressional leaders were taken to a command center at Fort McNair, about two miles away, and it was from there that they called cabinet secretaries and Vice President Mike Pence. They also considered reconvening Congress at that location if the Capitol could not be secured.

Update: The January 6th Committee concluded with a unanimous vote to subpoena Donald Trump.
“We are obligated to seek answers directly from the man who set this in motion,” said Rep. Liz Cheney (R-wy).
Trump seems likely to try to fight the subpoena. It’s rare for any congressional panel to subpoena a president, current or former.
After so many months of anticipation, this hearing again lived up to and even exceeded expectations in the offering of new material, first and foremost being video footage. Documentary filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi says that the purpose of her latest film was to “take the temperature of how people feel about America today.” Judging by the alarming footage on display in American Selfie: One Nation Shoots Itself — premiering Friday on Showtime — the country is suffering from a high-grade fever.

Alexandra Pelosi’s documentary “American Selfie” is really a selfie of its own, a snapshot of America today, a testament to the things we’re sharing, for better and (mostly) worse. Despite an early flirtation with quite literally covering the culture of “selfies” — it opens with an energetic run of interviews with Chicago tourists, all of whom are far too eager to talk about their personal selfie philosophy — Pelosi’s documentary goes much further. Billed as a “12-month journey” through America during a particularly tumultuous year, one that Pelosi posits forever changed American consumers’ relationships with the smartphone,
While the film’s actual engagement with smartphones and selfies often feels tangential (particularly after such a pointed opening), many audience members will likely feel compelled to hurl their phone across the room while watching, if only in the hope of distancing themselves from the never-ending parade of horror they pipe into our hands.

"This whole thing is just a big show." Showtime has unveiled the trailer for an eye-opening documentary titled American Selfie: One Nation Shoots Itself, made by doc filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, who also happens to be American politician Nancy Pelosi's daughter. The doc film captures a snapshot of the United States of America as the country faces a pandemic, a presidential election and a costly financial collapse. Everything that America has been going through these past few months in 2020 is examined through the "selfie" lens. "The purpose of this film was to take the temperature of how people feel about America today — to take a selfie of how America looks in 2020," Pelosi states. "It's an artifact of this moment in time, and I’m immensely grateful to Sheila Nevins, MTV Documentary Films and Showtime for bringing this film to audiences at such an urgent time." Instead of waiting for any film festival premiere,...

While it may seem a bit crazy to already have a film that documents the craziness of 2020, filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi has crafted it, and “American Selfie: One Nation Shoots Itself” not only aims to show just how batshit bonkers this year has been for the United States but frames it around the use of our smartphones.

Showtime is gearing up to release “American Selfie: One Nation Shoots Itself,” Alexandra Pelosi’s latest documentary that centers on the myriad of challenges the United States has faced throughout 2020.
Showtime’s synopsis for the documentary reads: “Placing viewers directly within the most consequential events of the past year, Pelosi takes the pulse of the country while capturing the fervor of this precise moment. Powerful and provocative, ‘American Selfie’ raises critical questions about the stark divisions in how Americans feel, and asks if it’s possible to ever find a way to a more perfect union. As unthinkable perils engulf the land, Pelosi bravely captures the rising tensions among warring factions that eventually spill over and erupt into protests in the streets.”

Showtime Documentary Films will debut Alexandra Pelosi’s “American Selfie: One Nation Shoots Itself” just before the presidential election.
A major Oscar campaign is being planned for the documentary. “American Selfie” looks at one of the most chaotic and transformative years in American history, one marked by a once-in-a-generation pandemic, as well as a financial collapse and a galvanizing social justice movement. Pelosi began 2020 by embarking on a cross-country expedition to look at the present, polarized state of the union. She got more than she bargained for.
According to an official longline: “Pelosi’s journey begins taking the temperature of America in a massively consequential election year, yet as unthinkable perils engulf the land, she bravely captures the rising tensions among warring factions that eventually spill over and erupt into protests in the streets.”

Never underestimate the power of an Oscar nomination for documentary short subject.
MTV Documentary Films chief Sheila Nevins celebrated Monday morning as her fledgling unit nabbed an Oscar mention for “St. Louis Superman,” the first property that the longtime HBO documentary maven acquired after relocating to MTV last May.
Nevins said she was gratified by the nomination because the pool of contenders for short subject is so wide at the outset, especially these days.
“The odds are definitely against you,” Nevins told Variety. “It’s fun being an underdog.”
“St. Louis Superman” directed by Smriti Mundhra and Sami Kha, tells the story of black rapper and activist Bruce Franks, who was inspired to run for office by the unrest in Ferguson, Mo., in 2014. He beats the odds and is elected as a Democrat to the Missouri House of Representatives, an overwhelmingly white and Republican chamber, but still finds himself battling old demons.

Italy’s central Abruzzo region, known for having one of Europe’s largest natural parks, with mountains and native bears, as well as sandy, palm-lined beaches, is launching its new film commission at Afm. Former Sony Pictures Television president Len Grossi and filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi have been recruited as members of its advisory board, in an effort to forge Hollywood ties.
Abruzzo region execs Mauro Febbo and Francesco Di Filippo are holding a party and presentation event for the film commission on Nov. 9 at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. In a bidding war, Netflix has given a series order to The Girls On the Bus, a drama from Legacies creator/executive producer Julie Plec, Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Prods. and Warner Bros. Television where both Plec and Berlanti are under overall deals. The project was inspired by The Girls on the Bus chapter of Amy Chozick’s best-selling book Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns and One Intact Glass Ceiling.
For a decade, award-winning New York Times journalist Chozick chronicled Hillary Clinton’s pursuit of the presidency, including her unsuccessful 2008 and 2016 campaigns. While the book provides a candid and rollicking first-hand account of the Clinton 2016 campaign’s unraveling and her surprising loss to Donald Trump, the TV series is not about Clinton or the 2016 U.S. presidential election and will feature fictional candidates.

A review of tonight's Veep coming up just as soon as I remember to check for lead... Veep only did eight episodes in its first season (a pattern HBO seems to be employing with most of its new comedies these days), but in every year since, the ninth episode has been a special one(*). Season 2 gave us "Running," where Selina got high on pain meds and said too much about her future election plans. Season 3 had "Crate," with the amazing Selina/Gary bathroom scene.(*) Last year offered up the format-busting "Testimony," which was framed as raw footage of the staff being interviewed about the data breaches. (*) Julia Louis-Dreyfus chose "Running" and "Crate" as her (winning) Emmy submission episodes in those years. (Last year was "Election Night," and — barring something extraordinary in the finale — I'm assuming she'll go with "Mother" this time, with an outside chance of "Congressional Ball." "Kissing Your...

By now, the scene has become familiar: A sullied governor stands in a room packed with reporters and somber advisers to announce his resignation.
His wife stands next to him, looking as if she could use a gubernatorial pardon for what she would like to do him. The governor contritely confesses an affair.
In the case of former New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey, the affair was with a man, as he famously announced, "I am a gay American." His resignation was also his coming out.
Alexandra Pelosi's "Fall to Grace," airing on HBO Thursday, March 28, focuses on McGreevey today as he helps women in prison and goes about his life.
Pelosi doesn't bother with the particulars of the legal and ethics violations that dogged McGreevey; he had appointed his lover to an important government position.

Two weeks ago, Bill Maher aired a report by Alexandra Pelosi on impoverished Mississippi residents that enraged many conservatives, but promised a counterpoint to it the week after. On Friday, Pelosi debuted her report on mostly black welfare recipients, many who appeared unwilling to work and relied on the government. The report appalled Bill O'Reilly, who told his panel tonight he would like to see at least one of the people in the report in jail.

Alexandra Pelosi appeared on Real Time tonight with two purposes: to defend the video she filmed of voters in Mississippi that aired on the show last week, and to air a brand-new video that Bill Maher admitted would probably anger liberals in the same way the aforementioned video angered conservatives. For her new video, Pelosi spoke to African-American welfare recipients in New York.
