Chromeo are back with their third single of 2023, a high-energy electro-pop song entitled “(I Don’t Need A) New Girl.” Listen to the track below.
With an upbeat bass line taking center stage, the arrangement on “(I Don’t Need A) New Girl” shows off Chromeo’s sound at its best. Layers of synths, funky electric guitar stabs, and a disco-esque beat all come together beneath the surface, elevating the duo’s vocals. Add in the lyrics celebrating a newfound love that’s here to say, and the single shapes up to be a pretty solid summer indie pop bop.
Chromeo first teased the release on social media. Last week, they shared a snippet of the single on TikTok along with the question, “Do we drop??” Last Friday (June 23rd), they shared the single artwork on Instagram “Stayed up all night, did the artwork,” the caption read. “You ask, we deliver.

Ric Wilson, Chromeo, and A-Trak have cooked up a new project called Clusterfunk. Stream it below via Apple Music or Spotify.
Canadian DJ A-Trak introduced his fellow Montreal natives Chromeo to Ric Wilson’s music in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Inspired by the social movements of the moment, the artists convened with the Chicago rapper in California to forge a project steeped in socialism and communism, set to a mix of funk, soul, and hip-hop. King Louie, Felicia Douglass of Dirty Projectors, Stic.Man of Dead Prez, Kiéla Adira, and Mariame Kaba feature on the project.
Title track “Clusterfunk” alternates between stark verses from Wilson — who poses questions like “If it wasn’t in the bible, would you call it sin?/ If Dylan Roof wasn’t white, would they let him live?” — before Chromeo de-escalate his moral questioning with a classic sing-along chorus, crooning, “Welcome to the...

Dirty Projectors have released a new music video for “My Possession,” a track off their fifth and final EP of 2020, Ring Road, out Friday, November 20th.
The video has a charming school picture day feel with its montage of slow-motion video portraits of each band member caught mid-smile, yawning, staring off into the distance, gazing upwards with total joy as flowers rain down on them, or — in the case of Dave Longstreth and Maia Friedman — getting splashed with water.
Dirty Projectors’ five EP project launched back in March with the release of Windows Open.

Dirty Projectors have revealed Ring Road, the final addition to their five EP cycle, accompanied by the new single “Searching Spirit.”
Directed by Noel Paul, the video features an aerial view of snowy plains and textures. “I looked out and I discovered,” they sing in unison, “There is no end/To the searching spirit.”
Whereas the previous four EPs featured a different band member on lead vocals — Maia Friedman on Windows Open, Felicia Douglass on Flight Tower, Kristin Slipp and Dave Longstreth on Earth Crisis — Ring Road features the entire band singing together.

Dirty Projectors have announced Super João, the third EP in a planned five-ep cycle for 2020, and have shared a teaser from the song collection, “Holy Mackerel.”
The visual accompaniment features Dirty Projectors frontman Dave Longstreth appearing as a David Byrne-like figure, plucking Spanish guitar melodies in a suit while standing in front of a greenscreen background that’s showcasing a slideshow of minivans. Other band members popup from time to time, as do iPhone videos depicting natural scenes, like the ocean or a bike ride around the countryside.

Dirty Projectors have released a new song, “Inner World,” set to appear on their second of five planned 2020 EPs, Flight Tower, out June 26th via Domino.
The song — which arrived with a video directed by bandleader Dave Longstreth — features some classic Dirty Projectors fare as a charming pop tune filled with soft keys and tender acoustic guitars is balanced by percussion with a decisively harder and more electronic air. Keyboardist/percussionist Felicia Douglass handles lead vocal duties on the song, singing, “Where is it taking me?/I can only know,...
