Gilmore Girls created a town full of memorable characters in Stars Hollow. Decades later, many of those supporting characters are getting their due in revisits. David Gruber Allen played Stars Hollow’s Second Troubadour in four episodes. For his debut, Allen wanted Second Troubadour to cover a Grateful Dead song on Gilmore Girls. That song was in turn a cover itself, but legalities prevented it.

Like the rest of you, the Rolling Stone staff has been self-isolating, holed up in our respective apartments and carefully planning out our grocery runs and six-feet-away neighborhood strolls. And like the rest of you, we’ve been watching a lot of stuff during our off hours to distract us, delight us, or to simply help us pass the time. Here are a few of the things we’ve been checking out over the past week — consider it a loose Rs Recommends guide for quarantine viewing. Remember, we’re all in this together,...

Usually, when writing these lists, we set the halfway point to define the good versus bad. But while “Gilmore Girls” does not lack for adversaries and antagonists, the fact is that so many of these characters have such charms that ranking them was a real challenge.

Only characters who appeared in more than three episodes are included below; even with that said, there are probably some we missed. (That’s what happens with a seven-season show with a rich collection of supporting characters.) Here’s everyone we’ve missed during “Gilmore Girls'” long hiatus — and everyone we haven’t.
72. Mitchum Huntzberger
Hey, remember when this asshole decided to crush the spirits of a talented young woman, because he could? Yeah, this guy can burn in hell.
71. Dean Forester

Start stockpiling Pop-Tarts and get that bottomless pot of coffee brewing: We're just days away from the premiere of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Netflix's revival of the beloved early-2000's dramedy. (The streaming service is dropping all four episodes on November 25th.) The original series introduced us to the fast-talking, java-addicted Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham), her 16-year-old brainiac daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel), and a colorful cast of characters in the fictional Connecticut hamlet of Stars Hollow.
All things considered, the CW show could have been a forgettable mess,...

A summery, soulful vibe dominates the first half of the soundtrack to Friends With Benefits, the new comedy from Will Gluck which is unlikely to have a single review or article written about it that doesn’t mention Ivan Reitman’s conceptually identical No Strings Attached (hey, fulfilled my own prophecy there! Shaping the future. Yay me).
However just as the balmy heat and blue skies of summer can offer an irresistible environment for certain ill-advised behaviours (too much drinking, too much sun, spending your hard-earned money on a ticket for Green Lantern), so the early part of this tie-in album finds a number of classic songs receiving a refresh treatment that you’re not quite sure they ever really needed.
But, having said that, if logic dictates that only a brave fool would try to cover the Cure’s cast-iron classic Boys Don’t Cry, then the stripped-back, sensitive...

It's one thing for "No Strings Attached" and "Friends With Benefits" to feature carbon copy concepts, executed nearly exactly the same way, but it's downright eerie when those similarities cross over to the soundtrack as well. The tracklist for the fuckbuddy comedy "Friends With Benefits" has been revealed and you'd be forgiven if you thought the same music supervisor worked on both movies. Where 'Attached' had Color Me Badd, 'Benefits' has Kriss Kross. For an acoustic cover, 'Attached' had Hugo's "99 Problems" and 'Friends' has Grant Lee Phillips doing "Boys Don't Cry." Need some indie rock? Rogue Wave subs in…...

Screenwriter Sebastián Gutiérrez ("Snakes on a Plane," "The Eye") has begun something of a little cottage industry making low-budge flicks starring a lot of he and girlfriend Carla Gugino's famous Hollywood pals, generally the buxomer the better.
The first of these, "Women in Trouble," debuted in 2009 while the sequel, "Electra Luxx," will be released on March 11th, coincidentally the same day Gutiérrez will drop another ensemble film titled "Girl Walks Into A Bar."
The twist? The new film is free. As in "free free."
Shot in 11 days on the hip new Canon 7D HD camera, Gutiérrez claims this is the first major film with bonafide stars (and, let's be honest, former stars) made exclusively for YouTube distribution. "We are excited to break the rules of feature films by letting people watch our movie for free online," says Gutiérrez.
"Girl" is a Robert Altman-esque sprawling piece of interlocking stories...

Margaret Cho gave me some of her time recently to discuss the August 24th release of her new album Cho Dependent. News Flash: Girlfriend can sing, and really really well. The thirteen songs here cut across quite a few genres; hip hop, girl group, country music, rock & roll, singer-songwriter, dance-pop. Margaret enlisted a stellar group of compadres to help write and perform the tunes -- Ben Lee, Tommy Chong, Tegan & Sara, Grant Lee Phillips, Ani Difranco, Andrew Bird, Fiona Apple, Brendan Benson, Garrison Star, Patty Griffin, Jon Brion, Meghan Toohey, Diana Yanez and Kurt Hall. Rachael Yamagata also appears on a hidden Easter Egg track. Cho had been wanting to do something like this for a long time. "I wanted to create a comedy album with really great music that would endure beyond the jokes, so the songs...

Covers albums that work fall into two camps: radical reinventions and enjoyable detours. Examples of the former: Mark Kozelek’s AC/DC excursion What’s Next To The Moon and Grant Lee Phillips’ nineteeneighties. Examples of the latter: David Bowie’s Pin Ups, Yo La Tengo’s Condo Fucks side project, and The Hotrats’ Turn Ons, a new album from Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffe, a.k.a. half of Supergrass. Paying tribute to everyone from The Cure to The Doors, Turn Ons sounds like a collection of songs its creators always wanted to play but couldn’t find an ...
