Francis Ford Coppola, the legendary director behind masterpieces like The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, has poured his heart and soul into his latest project, Megalopolis.
Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis
Coppola’s biggest successes have been his commercially popular films, but his winery has also been a steady earner. He bought Niebaum-Coppola winery back in 1979, and it’s been there to back his filmmaking ambitions—especially during rough patches.
Suggested“I would’ve made something interesting”: Martin Scorsese Broke Silence on His Godfather Sequel Despite Francis Ford Coppola Wanting Him to Direct
With a staggering $120 million self-financed budget, Megalopolis features a star-studded cast, including Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Dustin Hoffman, and many others. The film has been a passion project for the director for over two decades.
But with early reviews calling it “baffling” and “unflinchingly batsh*t,” the big question is: will people love Coppola’s vision, or...

Francis Ford Coppola is shrugging off retirement rumors ahead of the release of his sprawling self-financed film “Megalopolis.”
Coppola had been developing the original story for “Megalopolis” for close to 30 years, with Deadline reporting that the auteur lost 75 pounds to increase his stamina to complete the script. The 84-year-old filmmaker told the outlet that despite “Megalopolis” being a “big, difficult” movie, it is in no way his swan song.
In fact, his next upcoming project is finally what led Coppola to consider “Megalopolis” as complete.
“One way I knew ‘Megalopolis’ was finished is that I’ve begun work on a new film,” Coppola said. “It won’t be cheap by any means, but I don’t know it can be called ‘an epic film.'”
“Megalopolis” centers on the destruction of a utopian society that struggles with adapting to the future. Cesar, an architectural idealist played by Adam Driver, clashes...

The Ferrari director has confirmed that Heat 2 is definitely on the way and production is set to begin in 2024.
Heat is, without a question, Michael Mann’s best, most acclaimed film. Featuring powerhouse performances from Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, it’s a timeless classic of crime cinema. Mann has long been planning a sequel for the film, and there has been much speculation about whether one will ever materialise – and if so, when.
In 2022, Mann announced Heat 2 as a novel and in 2023, we finally got confirmation that a film was also on the way. The novel takes place one day after the events of the original film, but events also flash back and forward, spanning several years.

It’s usually a noteworthy role when an actor inhabits a character that has an accent of any kind. Tom Hanks would adopt a strong Southern accent for Forrest Gump or a European accent for The Terminal. Al Pacino would illicit a ton of impressions as Tony Montana in Scarface. Even Sacha Baron Cohen gave people a reason to repeat his comedy ad nauseam with Borat. However, it’s pretty rare for an American actor to have roles back-to-back in a particular dialect for two projects that are unrelated. But that’s exactly how it worked out for Adam Driver. Although he’s had releases in between, Driver has had a couple of recent stand-out roles in succession where he would portray an Italian native and sported an accent with the films House of Gucci and Ferrari.
In the grand scheme of his career, it’s mere trivia or a footnote.

Adam Driver is opening up about his career and how he has not been strategic in booking his role and instead going by instinct to work with great filmmakers.
The actor made an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, which is hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, where the topic of playing Italian men in two movies back to back came up. Driver plays the role of Maurizio Gucci in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci and Enzo Ferrari in Michael Mann’s Ferrari.
Ahead of the press tour for Ferrari, Driver was warned that he would be inevitably asked about playing Italians successively.
“So many people have been like, ‘How many Italians… ?’ I’m like, it’s just kind of worked out that way,” Driver said. “But I’m like, you know, it’s Ridley and it’s Michael and they’re in my mind some of the best filmmakers.

Adam Driver is steering clear of journalists asking why he played back-to-back Italian icons.
The actor, who previously starred as Maurizio Gucci in Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci” and recently led Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” as Enzo Ferrari, said during the “Smartless” podcast (via The Wrap) that while playing two Italian characters consecutively wasn’t “strategic,” that’s how it “worked out.”
“So many people have been like, ‘How many Italians?’ I’m like, it’s just kind of worked out that way,” Driver said, noting that perhaps someone on his PR team should have warned him it would “come up a lot” on the press tour for “Ferrari,” but “press isn’t a place where you have a nuanced conversation.”
Driver added that his casting was a “good example of not being strategic in a way that I probably should,” but working with director Mann was impossible to pass up.

The ‘Star Wars’ universe has been expanding exponentially over the past decade or so, with numerous shows, animated series, and even a ton of new movies. The sequel trilogy was a success, and the fans quickly fell in love with Kylo Ren – one of the main antagonists of the trilogy, portrayed by the talented Adam Driver.
Eventually, Kylo Ren turned back to the Light Side and became Ben Solo again, sacrificing himself for the greater good. As it usually happens in ‘Star Wars,’ fans were hoping that the death wasn’t permanent. Well, if we were to listen to Driver’s recent statements, it seems that a potential return of Kylo Ren is not in the books.

After playing Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, Adam Driver has confirmed that he’s done with the Star Wars franchise.
“They’re doing stuff, but not with me. I’m not doing it anymore,” Adam Driver said on the Smartless podcast. When he was asked if this was because Kylo Ren’s story had concluded, the actor responded, “Yeah.“

The specialty box office saw several films try to carve out a niche for themselves during the holiday weekend, including Searchlight’s “All of Us Strangers,” Andrew Haigh’s dreamlike LGBTQ romance that earned $132,156 from four theaters in New York and Los Angeles.
That gives the film an average of just over $33,000, consistent with limited release opening averages for films like MGM’s “American Fiction” and A24’s “The Zone of Interest”.
Premiering at Telluride, “All of Us Strangers” is a ghost story that tells the tale of a gay, struggling screenwriter named Adam who falls in love with the one other resident of his apartment building after initially rejecting him. As their relationship builds, Adam also visits the ghosts of his parents, who died in a car crash when he was 12. Along with critical acclaim, audiences in New York and Los Angeles have given the film strong marks with an A- on CinemaScore.

Ferrari Movie Review is Out! (Picture Credit: IMDb)
What’s Good: The cast races are exciting and brutal, and going behind the scenes of the Ferrari business is quite interesting.
What’s Bad: The non-Italian actors feel out of place, especially regarding their fake accents, which sadly hurt their performances.
Loo Break: The movie’s start is chaotic and all over the place, so you could go to the loo during it and not miss much.
Watch or Not?: Watch if you are in for the car races or are a Ferrari fan; if not, there are better options.

In an obituary published by British daily The Guardian, Minnie Driver recalled some of the good times with Matthew Perry, whom she acted alongside in a 2003 production of David Mamet’s Sexual Perversity in Chicago.
“He had been in a good place when we were doing the play, but the thing about him was he was like a light,” Driver wrote. “He was one of those people who just made other people feel good. Somehow, they don’t suck you down into their sadness, or their pain, and I know now that his pain was great.”
She continued, “Matthew was one of the quickest people you would ever come across, ruthlessly funny in the ways he’d react to people. He wouldn’t let you get away with anything. Invariably, I would tell really long stories and he’d always do this brilliantly timed bit where he’d nod off...

Adam Driver has talked glowingly about Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, praising the experience of making it and describing the film itself as “amazing”.
In terms of scale, Megalopolis is perhaps the biggest project director Francis Ford Coppola has undertaken since Bram Stoker’s Dracula in 1992. Its budget is $120m – a sizeable sum given that it’s an independent project – and its cast is starry, with Adam Driver, Dustin Hoffman, Forest Whitaker and Aubrey Plaza among the big names.
So far, little has been divulged about the film, although it’s said to be set in a New York City of the future that has been ravaged by an unspecified disaster. Filming on the production finished in March this year, and World of Reel reports that Megalopolis could premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.

It is almost like a Shakespearean drama with a lot of cool action,” says two-time Oscar-winning film editor Pietro Scalia of Michael Mann’s new Ferrari, which is based on the biography Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine and explores the life of the eponymous automaker (played by Adam Driver) as he struggles personally and professionally in 1957.
In his first pairing with the director, Scalia — who won his Oscars for JFK (shared with Joe Hutshing) and Black Hawk Down — emphasizes that while thrilling race scenes were created, Mann’s focus was first on character and key relationships, like those between Enzo and Laura (Enzo’s wife, portrayed by Penélope Cruz) and Enzo and Lena (his lover, portrayed by Shailene Woodley). “I remember that he loved to see the contrast between how Driver would play his character in front of Laura or with his mother or with Lena,...

Four years on, we’re still learning new things about The Rise of Skywalker and the behind the scenes decisions that led to the highly divisive final chapter of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. For some, Episode IX was a return to form for the franchise, while for others, it paled in comparison to what came before, particularly the equally divisive The Last Jedi, because it chose to play the hits instead of saying anything new about characters or their world.

After twenty years in development, Michael Mann’s passion project about Enzo Ferrari was finally released this month. Chronicling the tumultuous period of his life in 1957 that included challenges in his personal and professional life, Ferrari is not a true biopic but rather a focused look at the man and how his name became iconic in the realm of racing and luxury cars.

Every year numerous films are overlooked, underrated, and lost in the shuffle. 2023 was no exception. Several sci-fi movies with merit failed to garner attention, find an audience, or receive a fair appraisal. Such outcomes can be attributed to market saturation with similar themes and concepts, exemplified by this year's surplus of films centered around AI or featuring talented actors who lack significant box office appeal. Alternatively, a film may be flawed, resulting in mixed reviews and audience reactions, yet still possessing commendable qualities.
For the purposes of this list, "underrated" refers to sci-fi films that received relatively mixed or poor responses from both critics and audiences, with a focus on those that lacked significant attention or acclaim. We'll review the notable qualities of these films and explore the reasons behind their inadequate recognition, whether it's one of Marvel's unfairly maligned sequels or a quirky, futuristic sci-fi spin on conceiving a child,...

It's gotta be tough being any main lead "Star Wars" actor. There's a level of scrutiny that comes with those roles that most other franchises don't have to deal with. Best case scenario is you lose your anonymity for the rest of your life, worst case the fanbase turns on you and there's nowhere for you to escape to. In my generation, it was the criticism of Jake Lloyd in "The Phantom Menace" that had a very negative effect on his private life. In contrast, this generation chased folks like Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran off of social media entirely.
Even actors that the fans generally seem to like have to take part in these movies knowing that these roles will live with them forever. Adam Driver recently discussed that on "Who's Talking to Chris Wallace" and made mention that ever since "The Force Awakens" came out, he "hears...

Oh, the untapped potential of Kylo Ren. "The Force Awakens" set up Adam Driver's new masked menace as the main antagonist of the trilogy after murdering his father, Han Solo, in cold blood. In "The Last Jedi," he flirted with redemption during that epic throne room battle before rejecting the Light altogether and taking his place as the new Supreme Chancellor of the First Order. In "The Rise of Skywalker," he frustratingly takes second billing once again to a bigger threat, this time Palpatine (you know the drill) -- until he hallucinates an entire conversation with his dead dad, flips a switch back to the side of the good guys at the last minute, and shares a weirdly rushed kiss with Rey (Daisy Ridley) before dying unceremoniously. Very few liked this abrupt turn of events and fans have wondered what went wrong ever since.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have set the stage for a new trilogy, but it’s no secret that the subsequent sequels didn’t follow through on the original plan. Adam Driver spoke on The Rich Eisen Show and revealed that his arc as Kylo Ren was majorly changed over the course of the sequel trilogy.
Kylo Ren was eventually redeemed as Ben Solo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but Adam Driver says that wasn’t part of the original plan. “I had an overall arc that in mind that [JJ Abrams] wanted to do,” Driver said. “His idea was that [Kylo’s] journey was the opposite journey of Vader, where Vader starts the most confident and the most committed to the dark side. And then by the last movie, he’s the most vulnerable and weak. He wanted to start with the opposite. This character was the most confused and vulnerable,...

Universal Pictures wanted a car chase spectacle that would appeal to fans of their Fast & Furious franchise. What director Nicolas Winding Refn and star Ryan Gosling delivered was something far from that. They made a fairy tale-inspired arthouse thriller with ‘80s vibes, a deliberate pace, and bursts of graphic violence. The film was the 2011 release Drive (watch it Here) – and it’s time for it to be Revisited.

Driver has been discussing how how Kylo Ren’s character arc across the sequel trilogy was very different from the one he signed up for.
It’s been four years since the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the rather unloved end to a nine-film arc of Star Wars films that stretches all the way back to 1977. Whilst it was great to see such a long-running franchise get an ending (something we don’t always get with other long-running series such as the MCU or 007) it was a shame that the ending was, well, pretty terrible.
Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren was a key part of the film’s ensemble and whilst out promoting Michael Mann’s Ferrari, he made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show where he chatted about the process of playing Ren over the three films. Like much of the audience, it seems that he...

Adam Driver is opening up about how his character on Star Wars: The Force Awakens evolved over time.
The actor who played Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy revealed that the villain was not originally supposed to redeem himself in the end.
“J.J. Abrams walked me through what he wanted to do with the character, but you had to sign up and be like, ‘I’m gonna do it,’ and once I did that, I went to London to star for pre-production,” Driver recalled during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. “And it’s like, ‘there’s a tiny room down the hall, you can go in there and read the script.’ And so I was reading it for the first time.”
He continued, “I had an overall arc that in mind that [Abrams] wanted to do. His idea was that [Kylo’s] journey was the opposite journey of Vader,...

Adam Driver revealed on “The Rich Eisen Show” that his arc as Kylo Ren in “Star Wars” completed changed from its original plan over the course of his three films: “The Force Awakens” (2015), “The Last Jedi” (2017) and “The Rise of Skywalker” (2019). According to the actor, Kylo Ren was never supposed to soften up and be redeemed as Ben Solo. In fact, the original plan for the character was apparently just the opposite. Kyle Ren was supposed to become more evil during the trilogy, not a conflicted anti-hero.
“J.J. Adam Driver has admitted his 'Star Wars' redemption story was never part of the plan. The 'Ferrari' actor has reflected on the original idea for Kylo Ren's character arc, which would have seen the character - who was revealed to be Ben Solo, the son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) - become the opposite of Darth Vader by embracing the Dark Side of the Force rather than finding redemption through 'The Last Jedi' and 'The Rise of Skywalker'.Speaking to The Roku Channel's 'The Rich Eisen Show', Driver said: "I had an overall arc in mind that he wanted to do, which then changed."His idea was almost the opposite journey of Vader, where Vader starts the most confident, the most committed to the Dark Side, and by the last movie he's the most vulnerable, and weak,...

Ridley Scott’s Napoleon and Michael Mann’s Ferrari are facing allegations — surprising for two films focused on straight white male protagonists — of cultural appropriation.
French and Italian critics have taken offense at the directors’ decisions to cast American actors to play national icons — Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonaparte, the general who became French emperor, and Adam Driver as visionary Italian carmaker Enzo Ferrari — and, adding insult to injury, having them speak in English.
“It’s original sin,” wrote a Ferrari reviewer for Italy’s Movieplayer magazine on the casting of Driver, alongside Spanish actor Penélope Cruz as Ferrari’s wife, Laura, and American Shailene Woodley as his mistress. “Not just to have them speak English, but with a dodgy Italian accent.”
“Deeply clumsy, unnatural and unintentionally funny” was French GQ’s assessment of the very French characters of Napoleon and his lover Josephine (played by Brit Vanessa Kirby) speaking en anglais.

Following Emma Stone's outstanding "Saturday Night Live" last weekend, the bar was set pretty high for the penultimate episode of 2023. However, this weekend didn't bring your average "SNL" host to the stage in Studio 8H in 30 Rockefeller Plaza. This episode was hosted by none other than Adam Driver, who has become one of the best hosts in recent memory. Whenever Driver comes to "Saturday Night Live," his impressive acting chops make him a comedic powerhouse, as he leans into each and every character he plays in such an authentic way that you can't help but laugh. It's the same kind of talent you see from someone like Emma Stone or Ryan Gosling, so the anticipation was up there.
Thankfully, Adam Driver's latest hosting stint on "Saturday Night Live" was filled with plenty of holiday hilarity, almost to the point where it felt like a full-on Christmas episode. Drive didn't...

Adam Driver is done with your “Star Wars” complaints.
As the host of the Dec. 9 episode of “Saturday Night Live,” he performed his monologue while playing the piano and reciting a letter of Christmas wishes to Santa.
“I would like people to stop coming up to me on the street saying, ‘You killed Han Solo!’,” he said. “I didn’t kill him. Wokeness killed Han Solo.”
The joke is a reference to his role as villain Kylo Ren in the “Star Wars” films “The Force Awakens,” “The Last Jedi” and “The Rise of Skywalker.” Kylo kills Han Solo in “The Force Awakens,” a widely controversial storyline among the “Star Wars” fandom.

It’s all in the shoes.
The first promo for Ferrari star Adam Driver’s hosting stint has dropped, and it features the actor in a very serious contemplation of his method.
The scene opens with the Kylo Ren actor sitting before a makeup mirror, a stony look upon his face, while a soundtrack featuring violins lends a sense of feverish contemplation.
“To play a character, the actor must first walk a mile in their shoes,” we hear Driver intone in voiceover. The perspective then widens out to show Driver’s entire wardrobe, and specifically some very non-serious shoes.
“Oh, this is going to be hilarious,” he says sarcastically.
You can watch the clip below.
Driver is returning as host for the fourth time, with Olivia Rodrigo, a six-time Grammy nominee for her second album, Guts, performing as musical guest for the second time.
