Despite a three-movie takeover of the ’90s, Whit Stilman isn’t a name that offers much draw to those who weren’t around to fall in love with his comedies of manners.
Damsels in Distress, despite casting Greta Gerwig and Adam Brody (and being as good as his other films), couldn’t manage to pull in audiences the way the rest of the films did.
Now Stilman is back again, and he’s offering up Jane Austen this time around. In a perfect blend of styles and sensibilities, Stilman directs and wrote the screenplay based on one of Austen’s less-appreciated works, Lady Susan.
Kate Beckinsale has never looked more impressive, and Chloë Sevigny, while she doesn’t have a lot of chance to show off in the trailer, has shown that this is right in her wheelhouse. Plus, the trailer gives you the chance to catch a glimpse of the supporting cast members,...

While the Roy Lee production, Abduction, starring Taylor Lautner — emphasis on the word abs — hits theaters today, another Lee film is already in the works. The producer is remaking Tiff favorite, the French thriller Sleepless Night — about a cop who steals a mountain of cocaine from a gangster and has to race against the clock to recover his son from the thug — into an English-language version (look for our review later today). According to THR, Warner Bros. and Lee set their sights on the movie before it even finished its festival run. More than ever, studios seem to be on the prowl for anything buzz-worthy and ripe for a franchise, and Frederic Jardin's French actioner was no exception. Lauranne Bourrachot...

Well, that was fast (again). Just a few days ago we shared the news that The Raid, Gareth Evans‘ Indonesian action hit and Midnight Madness audience award winner of Toronto, was picked up for a Us remake. Now, less than a week after Tiff has concluded, another Midnight Madness hit has got the same treatment.
THR reports that Warner Bros. has just acquired the remake rights for Frederic Jardin‘s Sleepless Night. They’ve set The Departed and The Ring producer Roy Lee, who has Abduction coming out this week, to oversee the project. Night was one of my favorite films of Tiff; a tense, thrilling film that can best be described as a cross between Die Hard and Taken. I encourage you to check out my review and video reaction here and synopsis below.
