Season 1: Kelly Monaco & Alec Mazo
Photo: ABC
There's nothing sweeter than holding the title of ABC's first-ever DWTS champion! Since winning the mirrorball, Monaco continued to portray the role of Samantha McCall on the network's daytime drama, General Hospital. Monaco made her most recent return to the show during season 25, pairing up with her close pal, Cheryl Burke, and former NFL star Terrell Owens for Trio Night.
Season 2: Drew Lachey & Cheryl Burke
Photo: ABC
The 98 Degrees singer had so much fun learning how to dance on the show, that he joined the pros and troupe dancers on their DWTS tour after winning the title. At the time, he had no idea that his brother, Nick Lachey, would later compete on season 25 of the show with Peta Murgatroyd. Unfortunately for Nick, he didn't have as much luck -- he and Peta were the fifth couple to be eliminated from the competition.

It’s been 25 years since Kristi Yamaguchi won the gold in women’s figure skating at the 1992 Winter Olympics. And when she looks back at her win a quarter of a century later, there’s only one thing that stands out to her — her hair.
“The hair! The big bangs!” she joked with People Now on Thursday, while looking back at photos of her on Feb. 21, 1992 — when she claimed the top prize. “It’s amazing — it’s defying gravity!”
Yamaguchi was just 20 years old when she skated to victory at the Games in Albertville, France.
The Games were notable for Yamaguchi for a few reasons.

She captured gold at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France, but famed figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi's greatest accomplishment may be the life she created after her competitive career.
Today, the 44-year-old resides in Alamo, California, with her husband of 15 years, former pro hockey player Bret Hedican (now a radio analyst for the San Jose Sharks), and their two daughters, Keara, 12, and Emma, 10.
"I'm a Cancer, so I'm very much a homebody," Yamaguchi tells People. "I love doing mom things. It's especially exciting with Christmas coming up – we'll be baking cookies!"
But family time isn't all that Yamaguchi cherishes this holiday season.

Angelina Jolie revealed to The New York Times that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy back in April after she learned that she was at high risk for both breast and ovarian cancer. Now, Hollywood is standing behind the 37-year-old mother-of-six, with everyone from Giuliana Rancic to Elizabeth Banks speaking out in support of Jolie.
Having lost her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, to breast cancer and knowing the pain of such a loss, Jolie said she did not want her kids to ever have to suffer like she did. "My mother fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56. She held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms. But my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was," Jolie writes in an op-ed piece.

Can it really be 20 years since Kristi Yamaguchi won an Olympic gold medal in women’s figure skating?
“I know!” the ever-youthful looking Yamaguchi, now 40, tells People with a laugh.
“It’s hard to believe, but 1992 in Albertville was a big deal because not only was it the Olympics, but that’s where my husband (Bret Hedican, who played for the U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team) and I met.”
The couple married in July 2000 and have two daughters: Keara Kiyomi, 8, and Emma Yoshiko, 6.

A 17-year veteran of the N.H.L., retired hockey player Bret Hedican, who is married to Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, suited up for Team U.S.A. during the 1992 and 2006 Olympics. Here he reflects on the 2010 Winter Games puck scene. Nothing could be better for North American hockey than today’s Canada vs. U.S.A. gold medal hockey game. The effects of this match-up could a have lasting effect on our sport, with kids all over North America wanting to grow up to be an Olympic hockey player. My dream began at the age of 10 when the 1980 Olympic team won gold, and my life was changed forever. How many lives will change today at noon P.S.T.? Things to watch for from Team Canada:...

Here he reflects on the 2010 Winter Games puck scene. The United States hockey team could not have planned this any better. I originally thought it was a definite tough situation for Team U.S.A. to find itself in the same preliminary pool as gold medal favorite Team Canada, but with all the surprises in this competition, I've been led to believe that Team U.S.A.'s seeding actually worked out in the Americans' favor. What I didn't know before the Olympic Games began is that: Switzerland's goalie Jonas Hiller would play the game of the tournament against Team Canada,...

Here he reflects on how the Winter Games puck scene has changed over the years. Growing up in North St. Paul, a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota, I never knew where that outdoor hockey rink one block from my house would take me. What started as a 10-year-old’s dream became a reality beyond anything I could have ever imagined: representing the U.S.A. hockey team in the 1992 and 2006 Olympic Games. At my first Olympic Games, in Albertville, France, the field was comprised of amateur players. The selection process was a grueling year of traveling around the world playing...

When she retired from professional sports, figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi envisioned a quiet life with husband Bret Hedican and their two daughters Keara Kiomi, 6, and Emma Yoshiko, 4 — but life hasn’t unfolded quite as she envisioned.
“I never thought I’d still be working this hard in my thirties,” the 38-year-old television personality concedes in a new interview with Working Mother. “I still have an itch.”
Staying busy off the ice comes at a price, however, and more often than not that price is guilt.
Like so many others working moms Kristi struggles to “juggle” the demands of family and career.

Child stars will often falter at some point, but don’t count Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi among them. Not only did she follow up an unblemished competitive figure skating career with ten years of Stars On Ice, she went on to marry professional hockey player Bret Hedican; Together, the couple have two children: Keara Kiyomi, 6, and Emma Yoshiko, 3 ½.
Although she accomplished so much so quickly, the 38-year-old former Dancing With the Stars champ harbors no regrets about the timing.

Last March, Kristi Yamaguchi was celebrated for becoming a contestant on Dancing with the Stars – but in her personal life, the Olympic Gold Medalist and her husband, NHL star Bret Hedican, were mourning the loss of their good friend Patrick Brandt. Brandt, a childhood pal of Hedican's, succumbed to a brain tumor and left behind a wife and two young children on March 2, 2008 in Mahtomedi, Minn. He was 37 years old. On August 21, Yamaguchi and Hedican will host The Patrick Brandt Live Life, Give Love Celebration benefit concert and silent auction at The Myth Nightclub in Maplewood, Minn., to raise money for Brandt's family.
