Photo by Pargon/Flickr.Election officials in Alaska are still tallying up the returns of Tuesday’s Republican Senate primary. Currently, incumbent Lisa Murkowski trails Joe Miller, an attorney who gained grassroots support with a push from Sarah Palin and the Tea Party. The only thing media outlets love more than an anti-incumbency narrative is a Tea Party–virility narrative, so, naturally, coverage of Alaska’s race has been hyped-up verging on hyperbolic. “Alaska's U.S. Senate race promises to be the first real test of the tea party movement's political power in the state,” proclaimed The Anchorage Daily News, prompting us to wonder, There still has not been a “real test” of the Tea Party? Actually, there has been; in fact, there have been many. Below, a list elections that news organizations have called the “first tests” of Tea Party power, presented in chronological order.

According to The Atlantic, this makes Mehlman “the most powerful Republican in history to identify as gay.” [The Atlantic] • The victor of Alaska’s Republican Senate primary has yet to be decided. • The Democratic National Committee issued a sarcastic statement saying that “the shell of a politician that was once John McCain” won the Republican Arizona Senate primary. In other election results: Florida Congressman Kendrick Meek defeated real-estate mogul Jeff Greene in the Democratic Senate primary; former health-care executive Rick Scott defeated Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum in Florida’s Republican gubernatorial primary; Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, in a race that is too close to call, is in danger of losing her seat to Tea Party candidate Joe Miller. [HuffPo, NY Times] • Jimmy Carter arrived in North Korea today to secure the release of an American who snuck into the country under the delusion that he could somehow do some good there. [Bloomberg] • The C.I.A. has concluded that the Al-Qaeda affiliate based in Yemen, called Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, is now more dangerous than the main Al-Qaeda group based in Pakistan. From Wikipedia.Tomorrow primary elections will commence in America’s most latitudinally superior state, Alaska. The most closely followed race, at least in the contiguous 48, is that for Republican Senate nominee, in which incumbent Lisa Murkowski defends her title against challenger Joe Miller, a bearded Yale Law graduate who’s earned the support of both the Tea Party and Sarah Palin. Whereas Miller is a relative novice—in 2004, he attempted a bid for state representative and returned to his law practice after his campaign proved unsuccessful—Murkowski is about as entrenched in Alaskan politics as is possible, given the state’s mere 51-year membership to the Union. A former member of Alaska’s House of Representatives, Murkowski’s father, Frank, tapped her to fill his U.S. Senate seat. The elder Murkowski abdicated his duties after he won the 2002 gubernatorial election. He held the state’s highest office for just one term,...

A week ago, I wrote an article called Looking Back at The Lost Room, where I did just that – took a look back at the fantastic 2006 SyFy series. Little did I know, the timing couldn't have been any better. While there were lots of exciting news that came out of Comic-Con, the one I'm personally most excited about is that The Lost Room will live on – in comic form! Just yesterday, I spoke with creators Christopher Leone and Laura Harkcom to get the details. They were both asked multiple times at Comic-Con if they had anything to do with the article I wrote as a way to lead up to their announcement of the comic, but they didn't. I just happened to write and publish it when I did.
The two made their first foray into comics with We Kill Monsters, which they published through Red 5 Comics. "From the beginning...

Back in 2006, the Sci-Fi Channel aired an excellent miniseries that was largely overlooked. I personally hadn't heard about it until recently. As a die-hard Lost fan, reading the synopsis for The Lost Room and seeing the words "The Event" was enough to really pique my interest. There was no doubt at that point that I had to check it out, and I'm glad I did.
Peter Krause stars as Detective Joe Miller, who learns about the existence of the Room and comes into possession of the Key. The Room was just a typical room in a typical motel along Route 66 – until "the Event" occurred, anyway. The Objects appear to be your average, everyday items that you might find in a typical room in a typical motel. However, they all have a unique power and are indestructible outside the Room.
