It’s only April, but already, 2017 has brought with it some terrific films and TV shows, several of which will be receiving honors from MTV, as the company looks to shower praise upon the best of the best with their annual awards show, which has received a name change. Instead of just being called The MTV Movie Awards, they’re now known as The MTV Movie & TV Awards. As always, there will still be a mix of more serious accolades along with some fun/lighthearted ones, and this week, the full list of nominees was released.
Leading the pack in terms of theatrical offerings are Logan and Get Out – easily two of the year’s best films so far – while the small screen nominations find Game of Thrones and Atlanta with the lion’s share of the attention. So, not too many surprises then. At least, not when it comes...

Someone has put a smile on the president's face.
After President Donald Trump's much talked-about interview with ABC News turned plenty of heads last week, The Daily Show aired clip from the sitdown with makeup of The Dark Knight's Joker superimposed over the commander in chief's face.
Trump's words sounded a little more villainous given the context of Heath Ledger's look of the character, with him talking about his banning of refugees from entering the U.S., with most of those barred coming from predominately Muslim countries.
Here's the full quote: "David, David—I mean, I know you're...

Mark Hamill has made no secret of his disdain for Donald Trump, frequently airing his grievances about the president-elect via social media and even referring to his proposed cabinet as “a who’s-who of really despicable people.” Now, the “Star Wars” actor and “Batman: The Animated Series” voice actor is expressing his dissent in an unusual, albeit entertaining way: by recording a selection of Trump’s tweets in the voice of the Joker.

Hamill first began voicing the character in 1992 and has since done so in a number of films and video games as well; his performance as the iconic Gotham City villain is highly regarded. His new form of protest was first suggested by Matt Oswalt on Twitter, who referred to the prospect of an app featuring Hamill reading Trump’s tweets as the Joker a “billion dollar idea.

In 1971, the 300-or-so people pawing through cardboard boxes of dusty comic books couldn't have possibly imagined that they were standing in what would become the cradle of nerd civilization. From a small meetup for diehard geeks, San Diego Comic-Con has grown into one of the largest and most feverishly anticipated pop-cultural events of the year. Thousands upon thousands of industry types, journalists, the devout faithful (and the suckers they've handsomely paid to stand in line as proxies) and cosplaying fans of all stripes will descend upon the city from July...

Last week’s news that Jesse Eisenberg would be taking the role of Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s 2016 release Batman vs. Superman was inevitably met with cries of lamentation across the web, along with the usual sprinkling of those hopeful that the strange casting might just work, in the same way it did with Nolan’s Joker. To be sure, even with months of internet speculation and hundreds of names thrown into the ring including Joaquin Phoenix and Bryan Cranston, no one came close to predicting Eisenberg as a candidate for the villainous role.
While it’s certainly a strange choice, that doesn’t necessarily mean the role or the movie is automatically doomed. To paraphrase Jon Stewart’s reaction to Batfleck on The Daily Show, it’s not like Eisenberg is now Luthor in all of your comic books, too – these characters have the ability to...

Nearly two months ago Batman #24 was released and readers were treated to the first crescendo of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Zero Year arc. This astounding bumper double issue must have left many readers wondering where do we go from here? Also, could anything top not only that issue but also all that has lead up to that issue’s events? This past month saw the release of Batman #25 and the continuation of this epic saga. Though I admit a certain sense of subjectivity, the narrative looks like it still finds fresh new ways to perpetuate itself, building upon and definitely upping the odds of what has gone before.
A prior article of mine spoke of Snyder’s writing in comparison to his predecessor; Grant Morrison. Zero Year may quite possibly exemplify the maturation of and therefore stand as a defining moment in Snyder’s work as a Batman writer.

The first thing that popped into my mind when I turned on MSNBC’s Way Too Early With Willie Geist – yes, I get up for work “way too early”– and saw, instead of Mr. Geist talking about the Presidential campaign or Jon Stewart’s latest and brilliant riff on the newest foolishness in this nation’s ongoing political foibles, a deployment of cop cars and ambulances flashing red, white, and blue – an ironic picture, actually, now that I think about it – in the parking lot of a movie theatre complex in Aurora, Colorado was, “Oh, shit, now what?”
Then, as I discovered that a mass shooting had taken place at the first showing of The Dark Knight Rises, my second thought was, “Wonder how soon it’ll be before they (the media) connect it to comics?”
Not long.
By the time I got to work, changed into scrubs, and was...

It’s apparently on one last time between Glenn Beck and Jon Stewart. Since he rose to cable news and talk radio prominence, “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” comedian has been Joker to Beck’s Batman. During Thursday’s farewell Fox News broadcast, the super-conservative Beck had a few last swipes to take at his Comedy Central nemesis. And please believe, it was “by-the-numbers” Beck. For starters...Read more...

Hamsterdam, MD - News at 4:20. As part of the celebration for the upcoming season of Weeds, Glick University polled over 4,000 Americans about what TV News personalities they wanted to see get high during a broadcast.
Naturally there were ground rules including the disqualifications of news organizations that contain notorious on air potheads. This meant no votes were collected for the cast of The Daily Show, Colbert Report and Fox and Friends. You think Steve Doocey is sober? Hard to think that any of those folks have eyes that aren’t pied 24-7.
10, Bill O’Reilly (Fox News) had a lot of folks who reacted that it’d be like, “Dude, I’m getting high with dad.” Of course this initial elation is cut down with the horrifying fact of “Dude, I’m getting high with dad and it’s just not someone I need to party with.”
