- Ken completed a marathon approximately 9 months after temporary paralysis due to a fractured spine with severe compacted discs and reverse curvature. The first doctor/specialist said he would never walk again and refused to "manipulate the discs" to free the nerve/paralysis life-threatening tension. That doctor feared she would break the spinal chord. The next doctor, with God, courageously succeeded the process, and guided Ken into a phenomenal, miraculous recovery. .
- Ken has survived three rattlesnake bites. One, from a young species, that almost cost him his life and/or his arm. He experienced an "out of body / view of the transition to afterlife" at hospital. The arm had basically a full 100%functioning recovery. Minor unnoticeable muscle loss due to a great hospital staff and post-op. plastic surgeon.
- Ken's personal encounters and experience with rattlesnakes lead to the title of J.A. Jance's bestselling novel, "Rattlesnake Crossing". In particular, one night while attending a sweat lodge ceremony a six foot Diamondback crossed Ken's bare feet. It was said to be a truce crossing by a Native American present. Ken gave up his hobby of handling and hand taming poisonous snakes from that night on.
- After reading an extensive personal list of near death experiences, a rep for South Park created the character of Kenny based on Ken Waco. Many of the ways in which Kenny dies are actually incidents that Ken Waco has survived.
- After a conversation about Ken's snakes and snake bites with friend Lemmy Kilminster at Hollywood's Rainbow, Motorhead created the song "Snake Bite Love.".
