“In the Streets” is the first edition of the Notebook Insert, a seasonal supplement on moving-image culture.Illustration by Lale Westvind. On the night of November 17, 2011, thousands marched across the Brooklyn Bridge holding electric tea candles, a kind of vigil for dashed hopes. Two nights earlier, their protest encampment had been evicted from Zuccotti Park, a sparsely planted public-private open space two blocks from the New York Stock Exchange, from which they had fomented a popular movement demanding broad changes to the status quo of global capitalism. The march had been planned in advance to mark two months since the inception of the occupation, but in the aftermath of the police raid, it took on a somber, even funereal aspect. As marchers proceeded across the bridge overpass, a huge circle of light appeared on the long windowless wall of a nearby skyscraper, beneath the menacing checkmark logo of a telecommunications company.

Whether you love it or hate it—or just hate that you might, kinda, maybe be chill with it—Will Gluck’s Anyone But You has found its audience. The Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell two-hander defied critics and connected with plenty of folks happy to bake in the Australian sun as the film’s stars swam around Port Jackson Bay and debated what it means to be “hot girl fit.” In theaters, the movie over-performed and grossed more than $200 million worldwide, and now on Netflix it’s soared to the top of the movie viewing chart around the world.
It turns out folks love an old-fashioned romantic comedy (surprise) when the leads are attractive and the jokes land. And even when some jokes do not land, the structure of Anyone But You’s story is sound. Indeed, its tale about two one-night stand exes who insist they hate each...

Brazilian Netflix films are fun to watch. They’ve been releasing a lot of romantic comedy movies in the hope of attracting an audience that still loves over-the-top, outlandish love stories. These stories might not be relatable, but the characters in them seem to be having fun. There were Rich in Love Parts 1 and 2, and Christmas Full of Grace, both Netflix originals about the most bizarre meet-cutes, yet the couple ended up together. Zero to Hero is yet another romantic comedy that involves someone assuming the identity of another man and how he ends up meeting the love of his life by keeping his real identity hidden.

After Henry Cavill’s abrupt and unfortunate exit as Superman from the Dceu, David Corenswet is set to play the character in James Gunn’s new Dcu. Gunn has deliberately chosen a younger Superman to explore more of the character becoming this eponymous hero and balancing this with being Clark Kent on Earth.
Concept art for James Gunn’s Superman
Gunn’s Superman promises to be unique and a complete departure from the tone of Cavill’s dark portrayal of the character. While Cavill’s Superman used his powers more than showing his actual fighting skills, it looks like Corenswet’s Superman is going to maintain a balance between the two as the makers hired a top stunt double for Corenswet in the film.

“When the Hero Blade defeated the Overlord, he lost all his powers. For him, this should be a dream come true—he can finally experience life as a normal student. Unfortunately, as a veteran Hero at a school meant to train future Heroes, he has little chance of blending in. What's more, the students Blade meets there, like him, have a rather skewed view of what's “normal.” He'll have to contend with the school's overbearing Empress and her icy glares, his own way-too-flashy attacks, and even an escaped dragon! Despite it all, can Blade manage to make friends and enjoy school life without exposing his true identity?” (Yen Press)

Netflix’s Live-Action adaptation of the American animated fantasy action television series by Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: The Last Airbender has successfully taken over the fans. It has managed to reignite the love fans had for the original series and is making waves on the internet.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
The series premiered a successful first season which showed the epic battle between the Northern Water Tribe and The Fire Nation and now fans are waiting for the second season. Although the original series had a lot of successors that portrayed the story of other Avatars too, Netflix’s adaptation might only focus on the battle between Aang and the fire nation.
However, the series has also brought back some sad memories from the original show that proved to be quite a difficult moment for fans. The worst one among them was the death of Aang and his ally/friend Sokka.

This is the recap of the anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Episode 2!
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Episode 2 begins where the Episode 1 has ended. Frieren starts teaching Fern the fundamentals of long-range magic, stressing that mastering Fern's mana output and strength will take years of dedicated training. However, Fern's exceptional control over mana, a skill many find challenging, stands out. Over the next four years, Frieren continues unraveling the grimoire, while Fern diligently trains under the elf's guidance and independently in the woods.
When Heiter inquires about the child's progress, Frieren notes that Fern has surpassed what most achieve in a decade and is perhaps studying a bit too intensively. Suddenly, Heiter collapses and becomes bedridden. Heiter acknowledges the miracle of his prolonged mobility, and Frieren reassures him that she'll decipher the grimoire swiftly. Despite Heiter's suggestion for Fern to halt her training and stay by his side, Fern refuses,...

Anyone who’s seen Glen Powell in Richard Linklater’s terrifically enjoyable Hit Man will know he’s a bona fide movie star with charisma to burn. If you were paying attention, that was evident even in Top Gun: Maverick. And Sydney Sweeney has shown impressive range, serving delicious mean-girl snark in season one of The White Lotus, tracing a self-destructive spiral on Euphoria and demonstrating serious dramatic chops in Reality. But neither screen chemistry nor laughs can be manufactured, especially not with the kind of pedestrian writing in Will Gluck’s Anyone But You, which does nothing to reanimate the moribund studio rom-com.
Before he got busy with two Peter Rabbit movies that apparently do exist, or the unfortunate 2014 Annie remake, Gluck turned heads with the 2010 teen comedy Easy A, a contemporary take on The Scarlet Letter elevated by a star-making turn from Emma Stone. The director riffs on...

First up, a confession: I was never a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. They belonged to my little brother’s generation, and to my small cousin James, who thought that their names were Teenage, Mutant, Hero and Turtle (the word ‘ninja’ being forbidden on UK children’s television in that era). I did not seek out a copy of this film, nor did I expect to enjoy it, but if there is a sequel, I shall certainly go looking for that.

Varun Dhawan & David Dhawan Were All Set To Remake Salman Khan’s Biwi No. 1
Varun Dhawan is finally back to doing what he does best – insane comedies. The no-brainers were the lifelines of the 90s, and most of them were helmed by his father, David Dhawan. Right from Raja Babu to Judwaa and Saajan Chale Sasural to Partner. Dd was the best.
And now, Vd is reuniting with Daddy No. 1 to churn out a classic comic entertainer that will go on floors in 2024. However, this film might not be the Biwi No. 1 remake David and Varun were planning in 2020.
For the unversed, the father-son duo, after remaking Coolie No. 1 and Judwaa, both of which were David Dhawan films from the 90s, were keen to remake Biwi No. 1 starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor and Sushmita Sen.

A movie directed by the berserk “Muppet Show” character known as Animal couldn’t be any more unruly than Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s new film of that title. This sporadically fun but exhausting hot mess provides 202 minutes of hyperventilating overkill for star Ranbir Kapoor as a tycoon’s favorite son whose anger-management (as well as daddy) issues are off the charts. Contrastingly notable for their absence are emotional depth, narrative cogency or non-scatological humor — lacks that much ultra-violence and a surprising amount of sexual content can only distract from so much over such a long, bombastic, shallow course.
Nonetheless, the over-the-top intensity pushed for nearly three and a half hours is likely to impress many viewers. That’s being counted on as “Animal” opens this weekend on the largest number of U.S. screens for any Indian feature to date.

Actor Idris Elba made his feature directorial debut with the 2018 crime drama Yardie, and earlier this year we heard that he would be following that up with an action thriller called Infernus. That movie was supposed to get started filming in October, but appears to have been disrupted by the strikes. So while we wait to hear what’s going to happen with Infernus, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Elba is teaming up with Martin Owen (The Loneliest Boy in the World) to co-direct a survival thriller called Above the Below… and this one is already in production!
Above the Below started filming last week at Pinewood Studios, using two separate stages – including the studio’s underwater stage. In addition to co-directing, Elba also stars in the movie alongside Caitlin FitzGerald (Masters of Sex) and Hero Fiennes Tiffin (the After franchise).

On Wednesday night we will find out who America voted the next champion of “America’s Got Talent,” earning the chance to see their name in the big lights of Vegas. Before that happens, there are predictions and opinions to discuss about who we think Should be the winner. Eleven acts will perform one last time on Tuesday, but if you ask me, there is only one that America should send straight through to Vegas and that’s the Ramadhani Brothers.

One evening in Bombay in 1954, almost all the taxis in the city seemed parked outside a prominent cinema on a busy thoroughfare with their drivers, led by the chairman of their association, inside, watching a film, and according to its hero, a unit member “gleefully announced that there was no taxi available for any passengers that evening.”
The film was ‘Taxi Driver’, a lightly noirish urban romance featuring Dev Anand, Kalpana Kartika, and Sheila Ramani, and especially bittersweet for its hero both professionally and personally, beyond its commercial success. All of the songs have hit the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with the exception of Doja Cat’s “Attention,” which was released two months ago.
Women also own another big category — artist of the year — where nominees are Swift, Beyoncé, Minaj, Shakira, Karol G and Doja Cat. The VMAs will air live on Sept. 12 from Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Swift, who is currently on her best-selling Eras Tour, is nominated for eight awards.
