He won the 1945 Nobel prize for Medicine and Physiology for his
discovery of penicillin. He shared it with Howard W. Florey and Ernst
B. Chain who helped develop it as an antibiotic.
Son of Hugh Fleming and Grace Morton.
Father of Robert Fleming (b. 1924).
Had an older half brother, Tom Fleming, from his father's first marriage.
