Today in 2002, The Drowsy Chaperone opened at the Marquis Theatre, where it ran for 674 performances. The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. It is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. The story concerns a middle-aged, antisocial musical theatre fan as he plays the record of his favorite musical, the fictional 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life onstage as he wryly comments on the music, story, and actors. The show won the Tony Award for Best Book and Best Score. The show has had major productions in Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, London, and Japan, as well as two North American tours.

‘Election Night: Part II,’ the season two finale of ‘The Newsroom’ was full of emotional resignations, a shocking kiss and an even more shocking proposal. Warning: spoilers ahead!
With relationships brewing in the Acn office on The Newsroom, the staff were trying to focus on the 2012 election, but were distracted by Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels), Charlie Skinner (Sam Waterston) and MacKenzie McHale (Emily Mortimer) trying to resign — leaving the whole senior staff ready to also leave the company.
To start, I’ve got to say that after a season of ups and downs and a great deal of dialogue, this was by far the best episode I’ve seen yet — and one of the best finales ever.
Will, Mac & Charlie Debate Resignation
Starting off the episode, we learn that Will, Charlie and Mac will be able to resign like they want — since Acn president, Leona Lansing (Jane Fonda) was...

“Singing for your supper” is something an actor might need to take to pay this month’s rent. At the Actor Fund’s Benefit on Thursday, Broadway star Stephanie J. Block, Grammy-winner Billy Stritch and six-time Mac Award-winner Jim Caruso sang for donations to help provide actors with everyday necessities. The three stars sang at the Bloomingdale’s Flagship store in New York and shared anecdotes about why they support the fund. A crowd of theater fans, Bloomingdale employees, and other Broadway stars, including “Evita’s” Max Von Essen and Tony-winner Lisa Lambert filled the space. “Life in the performing arts is filled with lots of unique challenges from the way that people work, what they have to do for a living, the hours they deal with and the dependency on others to be hired,” Barbara Davis, chief operating officer of the Actors Fund, said at the event.Block addressed the audience,...

Chicago – There are few plot archetypes that receive as much in the way of production funding as that which examines- and often heralds- the business of Broadway. From the trying personal life of Fanny Brice to the eruption of a chorus player on 42nd Street, musicals have often reveled to the avidity of their own founts.

Bob Martin was never interested in championing the next Gypsy Rose. Instead, the Second City-trained actor turned his pen- and acidity- to the faults and fallacies of Broadway’s most vulnerable idiosyncrasy, its self-professed geekdom.
Jim Harms (Man In Chair), Adam Pelty (Adolpho) and Linda Balgord (the Drowsy Chaperone) star in “The Drowsy Chaperone” at The Marriott Theatre.
