Nicole Brewster-Mercury

Nicole Brewster-Mercury is an award-winning producer with CBC Television: The National. Over the past 20 years, Nicole has contributed to the success of various news and current affairs programs such as NBC Dateline, MSNBC, CBC's fifth estate, Disclosure, Marketplace, and Venture.
As the Senior Producer of Talk at the National, Nicole helps shape coverage of some of the biggest news stories, from the Coronavirus Pandemic to the transition of power in the White House. Each day she guides a team of producers and oversees analysis and discussion that bring together diverse, respected, and expert voices on a range of topics that inform the audience.
One of her greatest accomplishments was a week-long series on the housing crisis in Attawapiskat with Adrienne Arsenault. Their coverage won a Canadian Screen Award, formerly the Gemini's, for Best Reportage. In 2017 Nicole, along with a small team of colleagues, was nominated for a CSA for CBC TV: The National's special - Face to Face: With the Prime Minister. Nicole also received the Gabriel Award for a short documentary she produced called Caring For Tor and, most recently, as the Executive Producer on CBC TV's The Filmmakers, a summer series that received a Canadian Screen Award in 2019 for Best Talk or Entertainment Program or Series.
With a background deeply rooted in current affairs and news, Nicole incorporates creative story techniques that deliver unique treatments, as witnessed in the series Seen & Heard. Caring For Tor was one story in the series that explored Canadian youth faced with extraordinary circumstances and captured them on their journey through life.
Nicole has an Honours Bachelor of Arts from The University of Toronto in Sociology and English Literature. She completed her degree in 2000.
