"You know how hard it is for him to try to find work out here with his record now..." Monument Releasing has unveiled a trailer for the new film both written and directed by acclaimed indie actor/filmmaker Mark Webber, titled Flesh and Blood. Webber tells a very personal story, blurring the line between narrative and documentary, involving his own actual, real-life family. The title of the film is a reference to his decision to confront a person from his past, raising the question: "Will Mark's life remain defined by his own flesh and blood?" In addition to Webber, the cast includes Guillermo Santos, Mark's younger brother who struggles with Asperger's Syndrome in real life, Big G played by Guillermo's actual father, and Cheri played by Cheri Honkala, Mark's real-life mother, anti-poverty activist, and the Green Party's nominee for vice-president in the 2012 Us presidential election. Her activism and her choices...

Actor-turned-director Mark Webber continues to mine his rough beginnings, and his real-life relationships, in the aptly titled, quietly searing Flesh and Blood. With the key exception of a wordless cameo by Teresa Palmer, Webber’s offscreen partner and one of the film’s producers, nearly everyone plays themselves, or a version of themselves, in the well-observed drama. They include his single mom, Cheri Honkala, who has channeled her difficult experiences into advocacy for the homeless and poor, and who ran for vice president on the 2012 Green Party ticket. She's currently running in a special election for the office of Pennsylvania state...

Bernie Sanders supporters still plan to raise a big stink at the Democratic National Convention, despite their man’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton on Tuesday. A planned “fart-in” at the convention next month will go on as scheduled and will perhaps gain momentum following the endorsement, according to one of the protest’s proponents. “Those beans will probably quadruple,” Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign national coordinator Cheri Honkala said, referring to the beans that are being sent to the organization’s office in downtown Philadelphia, according to U.S. News & World Report. Last week at the Green Party's 2012 National Convention, Cheri Honkala, the founder of the local Pennsylvania group Kensington Welfare Rights Union and the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, was announced as presidential candidate Jill Stein's running mate in the 2012 election. Honkala also happens to be the mother of Mark Webber, the director of Sundance 2012 dramatic feature "The End of Love." Webber had a busy year at this year's Sundance; he also acted in Michael Mohan's "Save the Date" and Jamie Travis' "For a Good Time, Call...." Honkala raised Webber in Philadelphia as a homeless single mother. As a 2000 Salon profile of Honkala noted, Webber donated much of his early film earnings to his mother's causes. In an interview with Comedy Central's Indecision blog, Honkala said of her famous son: [Big Hollywood is] just gonna be jumping on the bandwagon. No longer is money going to...
