The audience didn’t know what to make of the strange, dissonant sounds coming from the four musicians onstage at New York’s United Palace on April 16. Swift, dive-bombing squeals and nervous rhythms poured out of the Aizuri Quartet‘s instruments for 10 minutes straight. They paused; the crowd applauded, a little confused. Then the musicians kept playing for another 20 minutes of their unannounced opening set for Wilco’s second of eight shows celebrating the 20th anniversary of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. At times a hint of a familiar melody snuck into the otherwise dizzying composition.

Singer and activist Deon Jones was taking part in a peaceful protest in Los Angeles after the killing of George Floyd when a police officer fired a rubber bullet at his face from close range. Had the projectile hit him an inch lower, it could’ve blinded him — an inch higher, he could have died.
As Jones recovered, his long-time collaborator, the artist Glenn Kaino, enlisted several artists, including jazz pianist/Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste and producer Butch Vig, for a new musical project — a reimagining of U2’s classic 1983 protest song,...

“Olympik” follows the standout single “Shangri-La” and the instrumental “Brasil,” which he released with a nine-minute sci-fi film.

Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien has released a nine-minute video for his song “Brasil,” which will appear on his debut solo LP some time in early 2020. The trippy film, directed by Andrew Donoho, shows people all over the globe uniting as one after some sort of extraterrestrial phenomenon touches down on the planet.
“H.P. Lovecraft, [Stanley] Kubrick, and Junji Ito have created some of my favorite sci-fi narratives,” O’Brien said in a statement. “But I’ve always wanted to reinterpret their horrific premises into a more poetic and optimistic notion.

Wilco play hide-and-seek around their hometown of Chicago in the charming new video for “Everyone Hides.” The track is the second single off their eleventh LP Ode to Joy, out October 4th via dBpm Records.
The clip features frontman Jeff Tweedy singing the opening lines to the autumnal track — “If you’re telling yourself a story/Where the secrets twist like vines — before the band suddenly comes to a halt, Tweedy covers his hands with his eyes and counts down from a thousand. Wilco dropped “Love is Everywhere,” a new track off its eleventh LP, Ode to Joy, out October 4th via dBpm Records.
“So tangled in the wild/Seeing myself as something more mean,” frontman Jeff Tweedy sings over soothing, subtle guitar. “Sadness wants me/Further away from the scene.” An optimistic track for our dreary political climate, the chorus acts as a silver lining: “Right now, love is everywhere.”
“There Must be more love than hate. Right?!” Tweedy said in a statement. “I’m not always positive we can be so sure.

Jeff Tweedy played his dreamy solo track “I Know What It’s Like” on Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. The Wilco frontman strummed an acoustic guitar throughout the alt-folk sing-along, softly singing the melancholy melody in a light rasp. Two electric guitarists coaxed out spidery lead lines, and Tweedy’s son Spencer anchored the track with a sturdy drum beat.
“I Know What It’s Like” appears on Tweedy’s recently issued solo LP, Warm, which he recorded with Spencer, Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and mixer-engineer-producer Tom Schick. The album...

Wilco singer-songwriter Jeff Tweedy recently performed a solo acoustic rendition of his song “Pecan Pie” while at Traveler’s Rest, the Missoula, Montana music festival organized by the Decemberists. Wilco recently announced that they will be going on hiatus. The reason: Drummer Glenn Kotche’s wife, Miiri, got a Fulbright Scholarship to study medical device design in Finland. “It just seemed like a good reason to honor her and honor his commitment to the band: kind of allow them to have that opportunity and not put a whole lot of demands on their time,” Jeff Tweedy recently told Rolling Stone. “It’s always good for a band to go away for a while. Was it worth the wait for Wilco? The answer is on the way, guaranteed to arrive a lot sooner than the band's next scheduled visit to Denver.
One of America's finest and hardest-working alternative rock/country acts is back on the road this month, resuming their tour in support of their Grammy-nominated 2011 album, The Whole Love.
The first stop of the 2012 leg that began 10 consecutive sold-out dates was the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver on January 19. For frontman Jeff Tweedy, it had a familiar, uh, smell to it.
With the emphasis on playing rock idol instead of making idle chatter, Tweedy (right) finally addressed the sellout crowd seven tunes into the lively, 26-song set.
"Hey! How's it going?" he asked, seemingly relaxed but reserved. "Is pot legal here? Sort of? Somewhat? It smells legal. It smells very legal."
The smoke signals were evident in a state where medical-marijuana dispensaries have flourished...

July 27, 2010: Recently, Phil Selway from Radiohead confirmed that their fresh album is still in the pipeline and songs are yet to be written.
Selway also spoke largely about his sorrowful folk album called Familial. The album is supposed to be out on August 31. He also says that his role in the band is a little shadowy and a little obscure.
His album promises to be an interesting stroll of Nick Drake kind folk tunes. The album would also have a host of guest spots filled by the likes of Lisa Germano and Wilco’s Glenn Kotche. Pat Sansone would also be one of the artists, who would appear a guest.

Wilco may not be hitting the East Coast much in its national tour this go-round, but when the band does, they'll do it in style. The Chicago-based rockers have introduced the Solid Sound Festival, to run Aug. 13-15 at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, Mass. The three-day event will naturally be headlined by the band, and will feature "music, art, comedy, interactivity and more," according to a post on Wilco's website. The only other musical acts announced so far are from Wilco members' side projects: Glenn Kotche's On Fillmore, The Nels Cline Singers, The Autumn Defense featuring...

A supergroup led by Neil Finn played a live set at Camden's Dingwalls in London last night. 7 Worlds Collide, which also featured Radiohead's Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway as well as Glenn Kotche and John Stirratt of Wilco, played songs from upcoming charity LP The Sun Came Out. In addition to the tracks penned for the album, the group also performed versions of Finn's Crowded House hits 'Don't Dream It's Over' and 'Weather With You' and The Beatles's 'Something', NME reports. Finn said: "It was really sweaty out there, but that's exactly what you want from this sort of event. It covers a lot of the cracks and it gets people involved." O'Brien added: "I enjoyed (more)...

As we reported back in December, Neil Finn assimilated a rather stellar lineup to dust off his 7 Worlds Collide project. The 2K9 edition features familiar faces from the 2001 album, like Johnny Marr (The Smiths, Modest Mouse) and Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway (Radiohead), along with some newbies, including Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Pat Sansone, John Stirratt and Glenn Kotche, as well as KT Tunstall.

I can’t lie: I went into Friday night’s Wilco show at the Aronoff Theater in Cincinnati thinking that it might be the last time I saw the band. See, I’ve been following leader Jeff Tweedy and his rotating cast of band members for nearly 15 years — ever since I saw Tweedy play some of the early Wilco material solo acoustic in 1995 at Lounge Ax, the now-shuttered Chicago rock bar co-owned by his wife. I loved every twist and turn of their musical journey, from the countrypolitan sound of their 1995 debut A.M. through the power-pop evolution of the two-disc Being There, the urban poetry of Summerteeth and the experimental genius of 2002’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
And then, well, I began to lose the thread a bit. I liked 2004’s A Ghost is Born all right, but by 2007’s Sky Blue Sky it felt like the band had zigged...
