Production on Frasier Season 2 has officially begun and Paramount+ has revealed original series star Peri Gilpin will return as Roz Doyle in a recurring capacity following her appearance last season. Additionally, James Burrows will be back to direct two episodes.
Produced by CBS Studios, Frasier‘s sophomore season will film in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. The series follows Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) in the next chapter of his life after he returns to Boston to face new challenges, forge new relationships and – with hope – finally fulfill an old dream or two.
In addition to Grammer, the series stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Frasier’s son; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department; Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Frasier and Freddy’s neighbor; and Anders Keith as David,...

Production is underway on Season 2 of the “Frasier,” with Peri Gilpin set to return in the new season.
Gilpin famously played Roz Doyle throughout the original show’s 11-season run. She then reprised the role in a guest star appearance in the first season finale of the revival. She is now set to make multiple appearance in Season 2 as a recurring guest star. In addition, James Burrows will return to the series to direct two episodes, as he did in the first season.
Gilpin is not the only original series actor to return for the revival. Bebe Neuwirth reprised the role of Lilith Sternin, whom she originally played on “Cheers” before making multiple appearances on the original “Frasier,” in the revival’s seventh episode.

“The assumption on my part was always that Frasier had grown,” says Frasier EP and star Kelsey Grammer as he joined a panel for the Paramount+ series at Deadline’s TV Contenders. “He’s an older man now – wiser, smarter, hopefully funnier and a little less hysterical about some things but still a man of honed, refined tastes and insists on living well.”
The Paramount+ reprisal of Frasier, a spin-off of Cheers, follows the next chapter in the life of the psychiatrist turned-radio host Frasier Crane. After returning to Boston from Seattle, Frasier takes on new challenges and relationships in hopes of living out a dream or two. The series also stars Jack Cutmore-Scott, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Toks Olagundoye.

Paramount+ is making way for more tossed salads and scrambled eggs, as Frasier is renewed for a second season.
Frasier is undoubtably one of the most beloved American sitcoms of all time. Spun-off from Cheers, itself an 11 season American institution, Frasier had some of the wittiest writing on television, elevated by the magnificent casting of David Hyde Pierce as Frasier’s equally fastidious brother Niles.
Along with the much missed John Mahoney as their Dad Martin, Jane Leeves as housekeeper Daphne Moon and Peri Gilpin as acerbic producer Roz Doyle, over eleven seasons the show became embedded in American culture.
Talks of a reboot had been going on for years before it finally went into production for Paramount+ in 2022 under the creative team of writers Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli.
It saw Frasier move back to Boston in order to spend more time with his son Freddy, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott.

2023 saw the return of Frasier Crane in a "Frasier" revival series that was neither disappointing nor remarkable. But the good doctor must have done something right because Paramount has renewed the series for a second season. "Frasier" 2023 debuted in October last year with a full 10 episodes that saw Dr. Crane (Kelsey Grammer) return to Boston to reconnect with his son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott). Now, as Variety reports, CBS Studios, which produces this new iteration of"Frasier," will push ahead with a new slate of episodes, scheduled to once again shoot in front of a live audience at Paramount Studios. In response to the news, star Kelsey Grammer released a statement, saying:
"'Frasier' is a love story, and I am very happy we will be allowed to continue it. I'm delighted that our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ are on board for another season, and I can't wait...

Kelsey Grammer is bringing back more laughs as Frasier has been renewed for a second season at Paramount+. Season 2 will continue to film in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.
The series follows Frasier Crane (Grammer)—a character that originated in NBC’s Cheers— in the next chapter of his life after he returns to Boston to face new challenges, forge new relationships, and – with hope – finally fulfill an old dream or two.
Frasier also stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Freddy, Frasier’s son; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department; Jess Salgueiro as Eve, Freddy’s roommate; and Anders Keith as David, Frasier’s nephew. Season one featured guest appearances from original series cast, including Bebe Neuwirth and Peri Gilpin.

The "Frasier" revival didn't get off to the most auspicious start. In fact, it got off to several less than ideal starts, with star Kelsey Grammer initially planning on bringing back the entire ensemble that made the original series so beloved. Unfortunately, no one actually wanted to come back, leaving Grammar and new showrunners Joe Cristali and Chris Harris to dream up a whole new chapter for Dr. Crane — one that would see him return to Boston and reinsert himself into the life of his son, Freddy (played by Jack Cutmore-Scott in the revival).
But even after locking in this new premise, there were further hurdles to navigate. Leaving aside the fact that when it finally aired, Frasier 2023 revealed itself as a series that really should have been a one-off special, the period directly before its launch on the Paramount+ streaming service also brought some minor controversy. When Frasier Crane returned to screens in 2023, he did so without any of the supporting cast from his original series. "Frasier" ran for 11 seasons from 1993 to 2004, propelled not only by its lovably pompous protagonist but by a cast who seemed as though they were born to play the various supporting characters. From David Hyde Pierce as Frasier's brother, Niles, to Jane Leeves as housekeeper Daphne, the series was boosted by one of the finest sitcom casts ever assembled.
In 2023, however, not a single cast member besides star Kelsey Grammer came back, prompting the actor and his new writers, Chris Harris and Joe Cristali, to dream up a whole new adventure for the titular doctor. In the "Frasier" revival, Dr. Crane returns to Boston, the city he inhabited when he first appeared as a character on "Cheers," and finds himself surrounded by a whole new group of friends and family. “All of Us Strangers” is praised for its wistful same-sex romance, but writer/director Andrew Haigh also credits Frankie Goes to Hollywood and the Pet Shop Boys. In fact, he wouldn’t start production until he knew the film had the music rights.
“I think almost every single song that comes out was scripted,” he told IndieWire. “I knew what that music was before I even started, and I made sure we got the rights to it before we started. Everything was sort of designed with that in mind. [The movie] is about the power of music, weirdly, to drag us back into the past.”
For Adam (Andrew Scott), the songs he chooses to play are as telling as the eerie silence that fills his apartment building, empty save for his neighbor and soon-to-be lover, Harry (Paul Mescal). Their relationship ends with a gut punch, but the final, devastating moment finds them...

If there is another season of the Frasier revival on Paramount+ — the first ended on December 7 — it may continue to just offer small teases of a possible romantic relationship between Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) and Eve (Jess Salgueiro). Executive producers Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli both acknowledge we could see that, but it would take some time if so. “It’s definitely always been a thought of ours, but we want to make sure that we do what feels right for the characters,” Harris told TV Insider. Furthermore, after fans watched Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and Daphne’s (Jane Leeves) relationship play out in the original run, “we decided there was no way we were going to match that idea of this one person chasing this other person,” he continued. “So let’s slow play it. Let’s not put it front and center. Let’s sort of mimic life in...

The 1993 “Frasier” pilot and the first episode of the 2023 Paramount+ revival have a lot in common. With the respective titles “The Good Son” and “The Good Father,” both episodes follow Kelsey Grammer’s Frasier Crane as he moves to a new city, makes a massive career change, and moves in with a family member with whom he has a chilly relationship. Television legend James Burrows even returned to direct the first episode of the reboot, providing another link to the show’s storied past.

What is a TV “comedy” in 2023? In an era of blurred genres, it’s not so cut and dry anymore. Opening Variety’s “A Night in the Writer’s Room,” Variety’s Michael Schneider asked the nine comedy writers on stage to raise their hand if their show features a death. Most did. He followed up by asking, how many of those deaths were murders?
Many kept their hands up high — but holding his hand the highest was “Only Murders in the Building” co-creator John Hoffman “I feel like that’s the beauty of [comedy], that you can kind of do anything … pick a world, be specific about it, be stupid about it, and then you’re good,” Hoffman said of the ability now on television to stretch the definition of comedy.
“It takes a lot of work to subtract comedy from real life,” echoed Boots Riley (“I’m a Virgo”) in...

Amazon Prime Video’s automotive series “The Grand Tour” is not moving forward at the streamer — at least with its current hosts, former “Top Gear” trio Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
Sources tell Variety that Clarkson, May and Hammond have just returned from filming the show’s final special in Zimbabwe, which will launch at a later date next year and conclude the fifth season. A special set in Mauritania will launch before that, in February. Though options to continue the series with different hosts are being explored, it has not yet been greenlit. The “Grand Tour” news follows the announcement earlier this week that Clarkson’s other show on Amazon Prime Video, “Clarkson’s Farm,” is getting a fourth season.
Clarkson said in a statement to The Times on Thursday, “We’re done. I have reviewed cars on TV since 1989. That’s 34 years. And after next year, I...

In /Film's review for the "Frasier" revival, Josh Spiegel described it as neither disappointing nor remarkable. Which is pretty much the perfect description for the supporting characters. After Jane Leeves, who played Daphne Moon on the original series, and David Hyde Pierce, who played Niles, passed on the opportunity to come back, showrunners Chris Harris and Joe Cristali had to go back to the drawing board. Along with star Kelsey Grammer, who remains the only original cast member to return in a recurring capacity, Harris and Cristali drew up a new plan for their revival show.
Now airing on Paramount+, that show has done its absolute best to chart a new course for Frasier Crane while remaining faithful to the original show. There are even callbacks to "Cheers" where the character of Frasier first debuted. But try as it might, the new series just can't seem to overcome the lack of the original supporting cast.

It’s a chilly February evening on the Paramount lot as Kelsey Grammer transforms into Frasier Crane for the first time in nearly two decades. It’s an emotional moment on set, both nostalgic and anticipatory. The sets are new, as is every cast member besides Grammer. But behind the camera, legendary director James Burrows shares some continuity with Grammer — having been there from the character’s 1984 beginning on “Cheers.”
Even months later, with the 2023 “Frasier” now on the air (via Paramount+), Grammer gets choked up when asked about what returning to the character — and having institutions like Burrows (one of the original “Cheers” creators) back on board — means to him.
“It’s a piece of personal heaven for me that Jimmy Burrows is still in my life,” Grammer says, his voice cracking just a bit. “And I will always feel that way about him. He’s really helpful. And...

After the BBC revealed that “Top Gear” won’t be returning “for the foreseeable future,” former presenter James May has said that the series needs “a bit of a rethink.”

Top Gear, which was once among the most profitable crown jewels in the BBC’s programming portfolio and a show that has run for some 46 years, is being put on an extended hiatus.
The British public broadcaster revealed Tuesday that the flagship motoring show would not be returning for the “foreseeable future” and that it had “decided to rest” the series.
The news comes following a high-speed car crash involving host Freddie Flintoff during filming of the show that led to production of the latest season being halted.
The accident — Flintoff’s third on the show — occurred in late 2022 and saw the former cricketer having to be airlifted to a hospital. In October, press reports confirmed that BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the BBC which produces Top Gear, had reached a compensation settlement of 9 million pounds ($11.3 million) for the injuries that Flintoff sustained.

Paramount+ has released two key art images for the upcoming sequel to the Emmy-winning comedy series Frasier, which debuts Oct. 12. Both posters feature the title character front and center. In fact, the sequel’s star and executive producer Kelsey Grammer, who is reprising his signature character as Frasier Crane, is the only cast member from the sequel pictured.
In one of the images, Frasier is surrounded by luggage, moving boxes and furniture as he is standing in front of the Boston skyline — a nod to the original series’ famous title card that features the Seattle skyline.
In the other, Frasier Crane, never too modest about his own intellectual abilities, has surrounded himself with the busts of several great intellectuals in different areas of art and sciences: Benjamin Franklin, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens.
In both, Frasier is sporting a business casual look we have rarely seen on the original series.

Former England cricket captain Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff has been pictured for the first time since he was injured in a car accident during filming of the BBC series Top Gear.
The all-rounder and star of the England Ashes series in 2005 and 2009 was seen on Friday taking part in practice drills with the England cricket team at Cardiff, Wales. It is understood he was not there in an official capacity but invited to spend time with the team during its one-day international match against New Zealand.
Flintoff, who has been a presenter with the Top Gear team since 2019, was injured in December last year during the filming of a segment for the series at the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey, southern England. His injuries remain visible on his face, and he is also understood to have broken ribs in the accident.

Though the late John Mahoney passed away years before a Frasier revival was a gleam in anyone’s eye, his spirit is still very much present in the new episodes.

If there is one distributor starting its fall festival season with a bang, it’s Searchlight Pictures. While others like A24 and Neon are still touting their big Cannes acquisitions, providing films like “The Zone of Interest” and “Anatomy of a Fall” a second wave of praise, a Venice premiere for Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things,” and a Telluride premiere for Andrew Haigh’s “All of Us Strangers” has made the Disney subsidiary the talk of both towns this weekend.
Focusing on Telluride specifically, with select tastemakers having seen the film beforehand, “All of Us Strangers” quickly shot to the top of attendees recommendation list to their fellow festivalgoers after its opening day premiere. The fantastical romantic drama is the British director’s third film at the Telluride — a fact festival director Julie Huntzinger pointed out in the press briefing. However, the word she used to describe “All of Us Strangers” was “transcendent.

One Night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, Adam (Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbour Harry (Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up, and the childhood home where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) appear to be living, just as they were on they day they died, 30 years before.

Peri Gilpin is returning to Frasier-verse as a guest star on the Paramount+ sequel series.
In the original series set in Seattle, Roz Doyle was the titular character’s producer on his Dr. Frasier Crane Show on Kacl-am. When viewers last saw the character in the series finale, she becomes station manager. Her role in the new series is as yet unknown.
From writers Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli, the multi-camera comedy continuation is executive produced by Kelsey Grammer who is reprising his signature character, psychiatrist-turned-radio host Frasier Crane. The sequel sees Frasier (Grammer) off to a different city — Boston! — with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill.

Paddy McGuinness has opened up about the advice shared with him by his Top Gear co-host Freddie Flintoff before taking on his role presenting A Question of Sport.
In 2021, the comedian took over as the host of the BBC quiz show following the controversial departure of long-standing presenter Sue Barker.
Appearing on the Monday Mile podcast with snowboarder Amy Fuller, McGuinness spoke about the “pressure” of the job, which he said he “felt more” than with Top Gear.
“I remember Freddie, when I got the job, he rang me up and he said, ‘Oh God, be careful,’” he recalled, during a hike with Fuller.
“We were talking about how it can be talked about online and stuff. He said he stood in on a sports breakfast show... for a month and he said the abuse he got. He said, ‘I’m an ex-sports person, Ashes and all that, and even I got abuse!

“We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery.
“We understand this [halting the show] will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we’ll make a judgement about how best to continue later this year.”
The broadcaster added that it would be conducting a health and safety review of the show.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Flintoff was putting his TV career “on hold” at the behest of his family...
