- Hawkwind is known for Any Given Sunday (1999), Life on Mars (2006) and Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle (2009).
- The band's line-up has never remained the same. Within its many, many changes in line-up it has remained solely Dave Brock's band.
- Their albums are usually in the form of long conceptual tracks.
- Although they are usually considered an underground/festival band, they had a major commercial success with the 1972 song "Silver Machine", which entered the UK singles chart in July 1972, reached number three and spent a remarkable 22 weeks on the chart. They had further minor chart hits with "Urban Guerilla" (39) in 1973 and "Shot Down in the Night" (59) in 1980. They were regulars on the album chart between 1971 and 1993, achieving 101 weeks on the chart with 22 albums, including the top ten hit "Space Ritual Alive" in 1973.
- They have been known as Hawkwind Zoo, Hawkwind, Hawklords and then, again, Hawkwind.
- They were described by Rob Hughes in Prog magazine as "Britain's premier space rockers".
