Sculptor who worked in wood, using chisels, axes and chain saws.
She graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in fine arts, and worked at one of Harvard's libraries, where she met her future husband.
Her father was a Czech diplomat. Her family moved to London at the outbreak of WWII. In 1943, the family moved to California, after crossing the Atlantic in a U.S. convoy that was pursued by German U-boats and hit by a torpedo.
