- With experience in animation dating back to 2007,André de Villiers has produced a broad range of projects in feature animation, television, and branded entertainment. Before working as a freelance animator,André spent ten years at Blackginger where he naturally gravitated towards a leadership position.There he developed the vernacular to articulate his creative vision to the artists around him and honed his ability to identify and navigate the unique set of challenges inherent in every project.
A skilled painter and artist, André accredits his critical eye to a lifelong habit of observation and a deep interest in the nuances of human and animal behavior, emotion, and expression. In 1999, André received the grand prize for The Lions International Peace Poster Contest in New York and delivered an acceptance speech at the United Nations headquarters. In 2004, a collection of his oil paintings were exhibited at La Concorde Gallery, Franschhoek. André's early notable animation work includes Free Willy 4 (2010), Resident Evil: Final Chapter (2016) , Marvel Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Deep Blue Sea 2 (2018), Koshchey: The Everlasting Story (2021) and Seal Team (2021). He has also worked on 2 episodes of the Disney+ African Anthology series Kizazi Moto, as Animation lead and Animation Director.
André graduated from The Animation School, Cape Town in 2007 where he began specializing in animation.
