In the early 1990s, two events shook America to its very core: the Rodney King incident and the trial of O.J. Simpson. Both cases provoked intense outrage, talked about justice and race, and ultimately had a significant impact on the American legal system.
Simpson’s arrest and murder trial in Los Angeles still bring back vivid memories, nearly thirty years later. Blood stained his glove, minute-by-minute coverage aired on national television, and he was the target of a police chase in a white 1993 Ford Bronco SUV.
In other words, his ‘trial of the century’ will also endure in the memories of numerous Americans since it exposed the significant disparities between Black and White Americans. The 76-year-old football player-actor passed away on April 10.

Simpson, the football star who later became an actor and then better known for being accused of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman amid a high-profile televised car chase and trial in which he was ultimately acquitted of murder charges, has died. He was 76.
In a post on Simpson’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, the Simpson family shared the following statement: “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. A nephew of Sen. Robert Kennedy who was convicted of the scandalous murder of a 15-year-old girl in 1975 and later was the subject of a made-for-tv movie and three books has won a new trial.
Connecticut’s highest court has ordered a new trial for Michael Skakel, who was convicted of the murder of Greenwich, Conn. neighbor Martha Moxley in a case that dominated international headlines in that era. The 4-3 decision by the Connecticut Supreme Court vacated Skakel’s earlier conviction.
Skakel was 15 at the time of the murder and the nephew of Ethel Kennedy, who was married to Sen. Robert F. Kennedy.
In a somewhat tangled case, Michael Skakel was accused of the bludgeoning death of his neighbor, Moxley. He claimed he was miles from the scene of the murder. In 1993, author Dominick Dunne published A Season in Purgatory, a fictional story that was liberally borrowed from the Moxley case.

O.J. Simpson's sociopathic personality came out in full bloom during his interview for the upcoming Fox special as he described how he just kinda calmly tapped Nicole Brown Simpson's car with a baseball bat. It's pretty incredible ... during Simpson's interview with Judith Regan, he describes a 1985 incident that was discussed during the 1995 murder trial, where Simpson took a bat to Nicole's car and smashed her windshield. Police were called, and as Nicole cried hysterically,...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday or Wednesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What is your favorite moment from a true crime series? This is the whole true crime genre that includes docuseries, scripted reenactments (a la “American Crime Story”), and even spoofs (“American Vandal,” “Trial & Error”).
Soraya Nadia McDonald (@SorayaMcDonald), The Undefeated
I’m not sure if I can pinpoint one particular favorite moment from “American Vandal,” but I do so appreciate its dedication to sending up contemporary conventions of true crime, especially the way it pokes at the method of storytelling that “Serial” and “This American Life” rely on so heavily. I’m especially tickled by the voiceover narration, the spot-on rhythm of the delivery.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. believes his cousin Michael Skakel was wrongfully convicted and spent 11 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. His book “Framed” investigated who might have really killed 15-year-old Martha Moxley in 1975, and has now been optioned by FX Productions to be developed as a multi-part TV series.
Skakel was arrested in 2000 for the murder and was later convicted, before being released on $1.2 million bail in 2013 when a Connecticut judge found that he had not received a fair trial because his counsel was ineffective. But at the end of 2016, the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled 4-3 to reinstate his conviction.
A motion for reconsideration is now in the works, and Kennedy is optimistic that Skakel has a good chance of permanently going free. But he also believes a TV adaptation of “Framed” will expose the story to a wider audience, helping his case. “The more people...

Former Los Angeles detective Mark Fuhrman claims that the members of the Nevada parole board had already made up their minds to free O.J. Simpson, regardless of what he told them during Thursday’s hearing. Fuhrman, who has provided analysis for Fox News on the Simpson case, told the cable news channel show “The Story With Martha MacCallum” that it was “shocking” that the parole board believed Simpson’s story about the 2007 Las Vegas robbery, including that he didn’t know guns would be used and that all of the belongings he took were his own. Mark Fuhrman, whose frequent use of the N-word was the basis of Oj Simpson’s successful defense in his double murder case, will provide commentary for Fox News when Oj Simpson seeks parole for his robbery sentence. Before the Simpson case, Furhman took part in taped interviews with a screenwriter in which he used the N-word 41 times. The TV event of 2016 so far was surely FX's marvelous miniseries The People v. O.J. FX’s “The People v Oj Simpson” never claimed to be a documentary, but it can hold its head high when it comes to accuracy. Even some of the strangest moments portrayed in the series really happened. But at times, for the sake of drama, it condensed or dramatized events. Johnnie Cochran (Courtney B. Vance) really did tell Christopher Darden (Sterling K.
