Coheed and Cambria have returned with a new standalone single, “The Joke,” which arrives today along with the B-side, “Deranged.”
Originally recorded during the sessions for the band’s 2022 album, Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind, “The Joke” features the band’s signature twist on progressive rock. Throughout, vocalist Claudio Sanchez carries the melody over a driving beat and layers of distorted guitars, with synth-lead interludes in between.

“The meaning behind ‘The Joke’ is basically: if you need a punching bag, I’ll be that guy,” Sanchez said in a press statement. The song arrives today with a video depicting Al the Killer (a character from the band’s Amory Wars universe) facing off with a Joker character. Stream it below, or if you’d like to get your hands on a physical version, check out the limited 7” colored vinyl editions of the single here.

Maynard James Keenan has been celebrating his 60th birthday all month with two of his bands — A Perfect Circle and Puscifer — along with Primus on the “Sessanta” tour. On Saturday night (April 20th) at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, fans were treated to all three of Keenan’s bands when Tool gave a surprise performance toward the end of the concert.
The tour usually has a no-video policy until the last song of the night, which is Puscifer’s “Grand Canyon,” but Keenan said from the stage that he would permit filming of the next song because he had “picked up some strays” to join him onstage. At that point, Tool’s Danny Carey, Adam Jones, and Justin Chancellor walked out to the delight of the fans.

"Transformers One" has released its first trailer, finally giving the public the peek that CinemaCon attendees got last week. Directed by Josh Cooley, the film looks to offer a breezy and colorful animated adventure akin to the "Spider-Verse" films.
Does the title "Transformers One" sound like a misnomer to you? Audiences have already been subjected to eight of these movies and they're infamously not good ("Bumblebee" is innocent and 1986's "The Transformers: The Movie" barely skirts by on nostalgia despite how cynical it was). Well, you see, the ninth "Transformers" movie will be going back to the beginning. Set on Cybertron, the home planet of the Robots in Disguise, the film is set before the Transformers got to Earth, before the Autobots and Decepticons went to war, and before Optimus Prime and Megatron had those names.

Tool are notorious for taking their sweet time between albums, especially the 13 years between 2006’s 10,000 Days and 2019’s Fear Inoculum. Now, even singer Maynard James Keenan is insisting that the band can’t wait that long to put out the next one.
“Tool is a more complicated beast with a lot of egos and a lot of other things going on in our lives,” Keenan told Metal Hammer in a new interview. “But all the creativity’s there, the songs and the ideas can flow and the arguments ensue.”

Anyone who’s been to a Tool show in recent years knows that the band kindly asks fans to put away their smartphones during the concert. One fan at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday (February 14th) learned the hard way by getting thoroughly admonished by singer Maynard James Keenan in the middle of the band’s set.
Ironically, another fan filmed the moment (as seen below), as Keenan ripped into the offending concertgoer while performing the song “Intolerance.” The frontman screamed, “Put your fucking phone down, dickhead! Seriously!”
It’s not the first time a fan incited the rage of Keenan by filming or photographing a Tool show. Back in December, the singer called another audience member a “dickhead” for using a flash at a show in Canada, yelling, “Take the light off dickhead. Take the light off. Don’t be American. Take it off dickhead.”

With the release of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the seventh overall movie of the Transformers live-action franchise, the world-building moves to a new arena as lesser-known factions like Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons are introduced. Along with them, another important character also gets introduced, for whom long-time fans have been waiting eagerly: the planet-devouring mechanical monstrosity, Unicron. While at first glance, the character might seem like another tank-type villain like Galactus from Marvel comics, his influence, and significance in the Transformers lore run deeper than that. With Unicron’s introduction, the mechanism known as the Transwarp Key has also been brought into play, and we will take a quick look at both of their significance in the larger world-building process.

The survival of the fittest theory is more applicable to the world of Cybertronians than it is to us Terrans. Divided into factions, warfare follows the denizens of Cybertron all their lives and reaches any part of the cosmos where they seek refuge as well. Previously, while the pentalogy of Bayverse movies primarily focused on the conflict between two major factions, namely the noble, honorable Autobots and the evil, treacherous Decepticons (Dinobots and Constructicons appeared too with bare minimum focus), the second movie of the prequel series Transformers: Rise of the Beasts introduces an additional three factions into the mix. The introduction of Maximals, Terrorcons, and Predacons is surely going to please longtime Transformers fans, who will be eager to know how the characters compare in power scaling. We will like to provide a brief overview of the Transformers that have appeared in Rise of the Beasts and will try...

Even in this age of pop culture entertainment, when fans gorge on the spectacle of cosmic abstract monstrosities engaging in battle with sentient mammals and literal mythological gods, the prospect of seeing opposing factions of giant robots converting into vehicles has got fans hooked. Yes, we are talking about the Transformers media franchise that started its journey in the 80s as an attempt to westernize the Japanese toy brand Takara’s “Diaclone” and “Micro Change” lines and gradually sprawled into one of the highest-grossing franchises of all time, comprising innumerable toys, comics, animated content, and multimillion-dollar movies.
Previously, a film series based on the Transformers franchise helmed by Michael Bay continued for a decade and consisted of five aggressively mediocre, overly stylized CGI cluster dump, run-of-the-mill action movies. After the end of the series, later regarded as Bayverse, the Transformers prequel series, starting with the 2018 entry Bumblebee, brought the franchise...

Drugs, Bluegrass, and Bass Fishing: How Billy Strings Outran His Past and Infiltrated the Mainstream
Billy Strings backs his black Jeep Gladiator down to the lip of Nashville’s Percy Priest Lake and hops out to unhook the tricked-out bass boat he’s towing behind him. The heavy sounds of Primus, one of his favorite bands, spill loudly out of the cab, where old Combos wrappers, cigarette butts, and fishing lures are strewn about. Strings, in a Dickies work coat with “Boomer” embroidered over the heart and a “Billy Strings” patch on the opposite side, lets his cigarette dangle from his mouth while he frees...

In yesterday's Wake-Up Video, we celebrated the birth of a cool, sexy blond girl who emerged from the Disney universe to conquer both the screen and the airwaves. Today, we bring out a cake for the person who might just be her cosmic opposite. It's Les Claypool's birthday, and the man turns 46 years old today.
Who is Les Claypool? He's best known as the frontman and spiritual leader of Primus, an unconventional California power trio based around Claypool's stunning bass guitar style, which brings together funk and metal in bizarre, unconventional ways. The band scored a bit of success in the '90s alt-rock boom, mostly because that was a time when super weird music got on the radio. Their blips of fame have been odd but consistent: They turned in a memorable, mud-covered performance at Woodstock '94, scored a video hit with the hypercolor clip for their single "Wynona's...
