To Kill A Mockingbird 50th Anniversary Edition (Universal) Robert Mulligan’s film of Harper Lee’s landmark novel pits a liberal-minded lawyer (Gregory Peck) against a small Southern town’s racism when defending a black man (Brock Peters) on trumped-up rape charges. One of the 1960s’ first landmark films, a truly stirring human drama that hits all the right notes and isn’t dated a bit. Robert Duvall makes his screen debut (sans dialogue) as the enigmatic Boo Radley. DVD and Blu-ray double edition. Bonuses: Two feature-length documentaries: Fearful Symmetry and A Conversation with Gregory Peck; Featurettes; Excerpts and film clips from Gregory Peck’s Oscar acceptance speech and AFI Lifetime Achievement Award; Commentary by Mulligan and producer Alan J. Pakula; Trailer. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS 2.0 mono.

The Movie Pool takes a walk through the Texas Killing Fields Blu-ray!
The Set-up
Two homocide detectives (Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan) search for an elusive killer who dumps his victims in a remote South Texas marsh. Based on a true story.
Directed by: Ami Canaan Mann
The Delivery
I can't imagine what it is like to be Ami Mann, filmmaker and daughter of celebrated director Michael Mann (Heat, The Insider). As the director of Texas Killing Fields, she no doubt has a mountain of expectations put upon her work. Ms. Mann should rest easy, though, because Texas Killing Fields is not only a fairly good film, she has proven herself to be a decent director in her own right.
The film, based on a true story that happened several years ago in Texas City, Texas, is not as flashy or as stylized as a Michael Mann film, but Ms.

Texas Killing Fields is filled with dark mood and tension, but fizzles out at the end rather than boiling over. The film manages to maintain the audience.s attention from start to finish, but doesn.t go far enough to make all the slow building worth the wait. Texas Killing Fields arrives on Blu-ray Hi-Def & DVD on Tuesday, January 31. Ami Canaan Mann directs an all-star cast that includes Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chloe Moretz, Jessica Chastain, Stephen Graham, and Jason Clarke.
Donald F. Ferrarone wrote the script based on the real-life unsolved murders in Texas. The haunting story follows two detectives (Worthington and Morgan) as they hunt for a killer that is ravaging their small town with gruesome murders in in an area known as the "killing fields." The fields are located out of the detectives' jurisdiction, but the killer continues to tease them with clues and always seems to be one step ahead of them.
Killing Fields takes audiences into what seems like a different universe, much like Winter's Bone did when it was released. The moist and sticky humidity of Louisiana does a wonderful job of doubling for Texas. Having lived in the South, I...

The first thing that drew Ami Canaan Mann to the film “Texas Killing Fields” wasn’t the script. “The thing that really drew me was the research material that came along with the script,” she said. The research expounded on the script, which is based on the real-life string of murders that happened in the 1970 through the 1990s along I-45, near League City, TX (according to Mann, the murders happened in Texas City, which is 30 minutes south of Houston). When Mann finally read the script, written by Don Ferrarone, she was just as affected. “It had such a visceral quality,” she said. By the time she had read the...

Chicago – Is there anything Chloë Grace Moretz can’t do? She’s earned big laughs as a snarky yet concerned sister in “(500) Days of Summer,” performed her own stunts as a vengeful hit girl in “Kick Ass,” brought startling pathos to the role of a smitten vampire in “Let Me In” and exuded Hepburn-esque grace in “Hugo,” all before the age of 15. Needless to say, her versatility is unmatched by any of her peers.
Moretz was 12 when she took the role of Anne, the alienated would-be victim in “Texas Killing Fields,” a routine yet engaging crime drama from Ami Canaan Mann, daughter of Michael. The role is closer in spirit to the vulnerable innocents Moretz played in a slate of horror films during the early years of her career. Anne is as much a symbol as she is a flesh-and-blood being, and the actress brings a chilling tension to her scenes,...

Chicago – Ami Canaan Mann’s “Texas Killing Fields” is further proof of just how difficult it is to do what David Fincher does so well. “Tkf” may have echoes of “Seven” and “Zodiac” but none of the character, mood, or even cohesion of those films. The best word to describe this misstep is a “mess” as the movie jumps around between plotlines and characters and never gives the viewer the footing that would make them resonate as something worth caring about or entertaining.
“Texas Killing Fields” is a procedural without structure. It’s a mood piece with no definable mood. It’s a thriller without clear villains or even threats. It’s almost remarkable how lost Mann seems with the directorial duties of her feature debut. She was clearly so engrossed in her own material that she forgot one of her most important duties – make it engrossing to us.

The film features actress Jessica Chastain, who stars in the film alongside Sam Worthington and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the films two lead detectives, and Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass), Jason Clarke (The Chicago Code), Annabeth Gish (The West Wing), and Stephen Graham (Snatch).

The first thing that permeates from Texas Killing Fields is its aura. Directed by Ami Canaan Mann (check out our exclusive video interview), daughter of Michael Mann, it is a film that is all Ami, yet has that familiar Mann stamp all over it. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
Texas Killing Fields is based on a true story. Screenwriter Don Ferrarone was a DEA agent for 28 years and while in Texas City, Texas, in that capacity, he became aware of the case of a serial killer who was dumping bodies in a swath of desolate land known by locals as the Killing Fields.
Ferrarone took the themes from the real life story of Texas Killing Fields and the two detectives chasing the killer and fictionalized the tale to get what we see on screen.

★★☆☆☆ Ami Canaan Mann's (daughter of Michael Mann) debut film Texas Killing Fields (2011) is a run-of-the-mill police procedural, which really has no place this year's Venice Film Festival. Detectives Souder (Sam Worthington) and Heigh (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) are investigating a series of abductions and murders of young women. The older detective is gripped by an almost religious sense of mission whereas Souder for all his in-your-face attitude, fights shy of drifting out of their jurisdiction.
This latter point is particularly problematic as the Texas Killing Fields - the dumping ground where most the bodies are found - are in his ex-wife's jurisdiction. Jessica Chastain plays the role of the feisty police officer with verve in her second outing at Vff 2011 - she also played half the title role in Al Pacino's wonderfully entertaining documentary Wilde Salome (2011).

When Don Ferrarone sat down to write Texas Killing Fields (see trailer), he had almost thirty years as a law enforcement agent to bring to the table.

Loosely based on actual events, 'Texas Killing Fields' is about a Texas detective (Worthington) who teams up with a New York detective (Morgan) to solve a drove of unsolved murders before more bodies start turning up in the marshes. Co-starring Jessica Chastain and Chloe Moretz, directed by Ami Canaan Mann (daughter of writer/director Michael Mann), and written by Don Ferrarone.
Now that we're less than two months away from its October 7 release date, click through to check out the first trailer for 'Texas Killing Fields.'

Finally! Anchor Bay has picked a release date for Venice competition title Texas Killing Fields, starring Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jessica Chastain and Chloe Grace Moretz, on October 7 (Italian trailer below). Written by longtime technical adviser, ex-dea agent Don Ferrarone (Miami Vice) and directed by producer Michael Mann's daughter Ami Canaan Mann (Morning), the dark Zodiac-style thriller, based on a true story, follows a pair of homicide detectives from coastal Texas and New York City (Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Sam Worthington) as they examine a series of unsolved murders in the I-45 dumping ground in Calder, Texas after Moretz goes missing. The ubiquitous Jessica Chastain also stars. Anchor Bay is often a B-movie dumping ground; they don't put much marketing behind their theatrical releases. So here's hoping we get a screener or invite.

The Factory
Opens: 2011
Cast: John Cusack, Jennifer Carpenter, Ksenia Solo, Mae Whitman, Sonya Walger
Director: Morgan O'Neill
Summary: An obsessed cop is on the trail of a serial killer prowling the streets of Buffalo, New York. When his teenage daughter disappears, he drops any pretension and professional restraint he might have to get the killer.
Analysis: Shot almost three years ago now, Dark Castle had originally planned to release this thriller back in late 2009. However for reasons unspecified, it has been sitting on a shelf for some time and keeps getting delayed. In cases like these, the most obvious reason is usually the correct one - it stinks (eg. "Case 39"). The company certainly has had its fair share of box-office duds lately including "Whiteout," "Ninja Assassin," "The Losers," "Orphan" and "Splice".
Yet Cusack generally has good taste in projects, his last venture into horror was the surprisingly effective Stephen King...

Easily one of the most impressive and charismatic of the Watchmen performances came from Jeffrey Dean Morgan as The Comedian, and his star continues to rise with a number of interesting projects including The Losers and the recently announced, Unblinking Eye.
Today we’ve learned from Bloody Disgusting that Morgan will team up with another breakout star in recent years, Sam Worthington, in the Michael Mann produced true story, Texas Killing Fields, or as it may be known, The Fields.
Telling the story of a pair of detectives from different parts of America, bought together, to try and uncover the cause of two decades worth of homicides in the refinery wastelands of Texas.
Mann’s daughter Ami Canaan Mann will direct this Don Ferrarone script with shooting to start this April – while it sounds like it has a touch of the Zodiacs to me, Morgan and Worthington have me interested.

Back in November there were reports that Bradley Cooper and Sam Worthington were likely to secure the lead roles in Texas Killing Fields. As of last week the rumor mill was one for one with Worthington.s involvement confirmed. It looks like we.ll be settling for 50% because Bloody Disgusting just got word that Jeffrey Dean Morgan, not Cooper, will play Worthington.s counterpart. They.ll play a pair of detectives, a Texas native (Worthington) and New York transfer (Morgan), who investigate two decades worth of disappearances and homicides in the wastelands around the Gulf Coast refineries. Michael Mann is producing the project and his daughter, Ami Canaan, will be behind the lens. The screenplay comes from Don Ferrarone and is based on a true story. Cooper and Worthington would have made a good team, but going with Morgan seems more appropriate. Back when Danny Boyle was still rumored to...

Sam Worthington has been confirmed as the lead in new film The Fields, a project that was previously in the hands of Danny Boyle under the title The Texas Killing Fields but has since past to Michael Mann's daughter Ami Mann.
The script was penned by Don Ferrarone and, according to Michael Mann, tells the story of a "tough-minded misanthropic Texan (Worthington), who with his partner Brian wind up waging something of a war against these unknown assailants, a ferocious battle to save each other and the life of this young street kid."
The film is based on the true life story of two police detectives who investigated unsolved murders in the bayou oil refineries in southeast Texas and, over the course of three decades, a number of corpses have been found in the fields.

Last November, we heard a rumor regarding the casting of Bradley Cooper and Sam Worthington in The Texas Killing Fields, a film being directed by Ami Canaan Mann (Michael Mann's daughter). No word on who will play the other detective, so there's a chance that Cooper could still be in the cards, but at this point, Worthington is the only one officially cast. Written by producer Don Ferrarone (a former DEA operations agent) the script was once considered to be one of Danny Boyle's potential projects after winning the Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire.
