Harvey Guillén, who portrays Guillermo in What We Do In The Shadows, has given us a hint of what’s coming up in the sixth and final season for the show and his character.
“We start where we left off and sometimes dreams and aspirations don’t turn out the way we want them to, (spoiler alert if you haven’t seen Season 5)”, he told Deadline on the red carpet of the Critics Choice Awards, last night where he was nominated in the supporting actor category. “But I think that’s the whole point of rebirth right? It’s like a renaissance. It’s happening again and you take a new direction, new ideas, new approach so I’m really excited for the audience to see a new layer to Guillermo.

What We Do In The Shadows will end with its upcoming season 6, it’s been announced: more on the news here.
What We Do In The Shadows began life as a feature film in 2014, written and directed by Flight Of The Concords star Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The latter of those two has gone on to direct Jojo Rabbit and has become a creative force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directing Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, infusing the franchise with his signature humorous approach (even if he took the job to keep food on the table.)
What We Do In The Shadows inspired two television series. The first was Wellington Paranormal, which began in 2016 and followed police officers Minogue and O’Leary, played by Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary respectively, who were minor characters in the film. It ran for four seasons from 2018 to 2022.

Vampires might be immortal (unless they step out into the sunlight ... or they get set on fire ... or you stab a pointed wooden stake through their heart ... or you chuck holy water on them ... maybe we need to come up with a different word than "immortal"?), but TV shows, alas, are not -- not even our favorite ones. So it is that the sun will soon rise on "What We Do in the Shadows," the wonderfully weird and queer -- not to mention often gory and always horny -- supernatural horror-comedy mockumentary series spun off from the cult film of the same name.
Like so many other ongoing shows, "What We Do in the Shadows" was set to begin production on its latest season this year ... that is, of course, before the major American studios and streamers decided they would rather bring the film and TV industry to a standstill...

Last year, FX ordered two more seasons of their vampire comedy series What We Do in the Shadows, which would be the fifth and sixth seasons of the show. Season 5 started airing back in July and wrapped up at the end of August, and we can expect to see season 6 sometime next year. Unfortunately, there’s now a bittersweet edge to knowing that season 6 is on the way, as The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that the sixth season of What We Do in the Shadows will also be the show’s last.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX “will bring its comedy What We Do in the Shadows to a close with its sixth season. The series is entering the back half of a two-season renewal that will take the show to its conclusion.“

FX‘s vampire roommate comedy What We Do in the Shadows, inspired by the 2014 film of the same name, will officially end with its upcoming sixth season. Created by Jemaine Clement and inspired by his film of the same name with series executive producer Taika Waititi, What We Do in the Shadows debuted in 2019 and has delivered five seasons full of laughs as the mockumentary-style comedy follows the exploits Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), energy vamp Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and their human familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén). (Credit: Russ Martin/FX) In Season 5, The Guide (Kristen Schaal) boarded the comedy full-time, playing an integral role in many of the larger plots at play in the now-penultimate season. Executive producer and series director Yana Gorskaya told TV Insider in August that the team behind the show had been in the “early stages” of getting Season 6 when the strikes began.

Put a stake in our hearts: The sixth season of vampire comedy series “What We Do in the Shadows” will be its last according to Vulture.
The outlet confirmed that the series begins production on its sixth season next month, and it’ll be the last season for the effortlessly charming vampire roommates.
“What We Do in the Shadows” wrapped its fifth season earlier this summer on FX.
The fifth season picked up after “Nandor feels his familiar (and sometimes friend) Guillermo slipping away as he seems to be spending much more time with Laszlo. Nadja, suffering the effects of a previously-undiagnosed supernatural hex, reconnects with her family — or at least, a family — from the Old Country. Colin pursues the path of so many energy vampires before him by running for political office and The Guide tries to figure out where she fits in as the relative newcomer to this tightly-knit group.

The 2024 Critics Choice TV Awards nominations were revealed on Tuesday, December 5 with Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” leading the pack with six mentions, including its first for Best Drama Series. Following closely behind with five bids is HBO’s “Succession,” which is now eligible for a third and final victory in the top drama category after winning in 2020 and 2022. See the full breakdown of this year’s nominations below.
This marks the first time in the three-season history of “The Morning Show” that it has received any Cca notices outside of the Best Drama Supporting Actor category. Indeed, its group of five currently nominated cast members is larger than that of any other show, with “Succession” boasting four acting bids for Kieran Culkin, Matthew Macfadyen, Sarah Snook, and Jeremy Strong.

At the end of "What We Do in the Shadows" season four, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) makes the drastic decision to ask Derek (Chris Sandiford) to turn him into a vampire. Fed up after years of his master, Nandor (Kayvan Novak), ignoring his pleas, he decides to get it done himself.
But at the beginning of the show's fifth season - which premiered in July - we find out Guillermo's turning didn't work. Or it did work, but only a little bit. At the start of the season, it's been 16 days and the typical vampire powers haven't fully come in for him, which is highly irregular. Guillermo can still eat food (though he does crave very rare meat) and go out in the sun. He can't, however, turn into a vampire bat and fly away.
Over the course of the season, we ultimately find out why Guillermo's transformation didn't work.

After 14 seasons of bawdy spy hi-jinks, Archer is calling it quits — but the Fxx comedy managed to deliver one final twist on the way out.
If you haven’t watched in a while, here’s a quick update: Lana is running the spy agency now after the departure of Malory (voiced by the late Jessica Walter), and the agency has a sassy new British spy, Zara Khan, played by Natalie Dew. Other than that, it’s pretty much business as usual in Thursday’s series finale, with Archer and his pals springing into action when a fleet of killer drones start murdering ex-iia employees.

Initiations are a delicate dance. If the welcome party is too genial, too forthcoming, or too needy, they can come across desperate, phony, or otherwise off-putting. But if greeters go the other way, it can feel like draconian hazing (at best) or outright hostility (at worst). The Guide, Kristen Schaal’s part-time vampiric player promoted to series fang-ular in Season 5, faces the latter version when she moves into a dilapidated Staten Island mansion occupied by four long-term roommates. Excluded, forgotten, and derided, The Guide takes her licking week after week, until Episode 9, “A Weekend at Morrigan Manor,” when she tricks her housemates into an impromptu vacation, then locks Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) in silver-lined cages and forces them to answer for their abominable behavior.

Nandor (Kayvan Novak) and Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) aren’t a typical will-they/won’t-they couple. Five seasons into the series, their back and forth is often between whether they actually like or respect each other at all. Guillermo has an undying love of some sort for Nandor as his familiar, but he seems unsure of what that love actually means, and Nandor’s refusal to turn him into a vampire weakened that affection time and time again. And while there is a simmering sexual tension between the two, it’s not always obvious — besides, the hypersexual vamps in What We Do in the Shadows have off-the-charts physical chemistry with everyone they encounter. If Nandor and Guillermo really are endgame, it seems like it will be a very slow burn.

After the Season 5 finale, “What We Do in the Shadows” has changed forever.
Or… will it stay exactly the same? Throughout the series, the FX comedy’s writers have proved how adept they are at maintaining equilibrium without sacrificing sitcom shenanigans and character development. Episode 510, “Exit Interview,” drives this home spectacularly, but realigns the show’s central mission moving forward.
For as long as there has been “What We Do in the Shadows” — literally since Episode 101 — Guillermo de la Cruz (Harvey Guillén) has wanted to be a vampire. Even when he found out he had Van Helsing blood, when he killed other vampires to save his friends, he remained loyal to Nandor (Kayvan Novak) through 13 years of service with exactly one goal at the end of it.
Not anymore.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows, Season 5, Episodes 9 & 10, “A Weekend at Morrigan Manor” & “Exit Interview.”] What We Do in the Shadows uncovered some mysteries and raised new questions in the final Season 5 installments, setting an intriguing new stage for the forthcoming (but delayed) sixth season, primarily for Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) and Nandor (Kayvan Novak). In Episode 9, “A Weekend at Morrigan Manor,” The Guide (Kristen Schaal) informs the vampires that they’ve received an exclusive invitation to visit Perdita Morrigan, a famous figure in their world. When they arrive at the mysterious vamp’s mansion miles from their Staten Island abode, no one is home, but an Agatha Christie-like scheme unravels as the visitors partake in “Perdita’s” itinerary. Review: Fourteen years ago, Archer debuted on FX and introduced the world to the best spy comedy on television. Led by H. Jon Benjamin’s pitch-perfect vocal performance, Archer skewered everything from James Bond to Mad Men and more over its decade and a half on the air. Adam Reed’s series has been consistently hilarious, with multiple forays into genres like noir, science fiction, and an homage to Miami Vice. Now, the final season of Archer is here, and it is thankfully just as great as the thirteen that came before it. Next year’s Emmy voters already have the unenviable task of choosing between a handful of “The Bear” performers for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, but it’s not too early to consider Doug Jones, who returned to “What We Do in the Shadows” this week for a truly impeccable turn as Baron Afanas.
Jones has played the ancient vampire ever since the pilot, when he was unrecognizably made up to look emaciated and decaying. It’s rare for any actor to be able to portray the same character in such varying physical forms, and gives Jones the opportunity to test out different vocal choices and body language, all of which pay off throughout the series. Before being accidentally fried in the sun by Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), the Baron moved with slow grace, intimidating fellow vampires not only with his age and stature but with an outward appearance...

There’s an unofficial rule on the set of “What We Do in the Shadows:” no fully CGI characters. So when Paul Jones, the series’ longtime prosthetics and animatronics designer, heard that there would be an episode filled with hybrid Guillermo creatures, he knew he was in for a challenge.
“Paul [Simms] knew right away that this was a lot of work for anybody, and he was able to schedule that toward the end of filming. I actually had probably about eight weeks lead up to it,” Jones told TheWrap.
That eight-week runway allowed for a lot of testing on one of the wildest episodes of the FX comedy series. All season long, Laszlo (Matt Berry) has been experimenting on Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), trying to determine what it means that his housemate is both a vampire...

Named for the esteemed healthcare establishment of the common mortal, What We Do in the Shadows, season 5 episode 6 “Urgent Care” treats the mortality of two uncommon patients. Each, very differently. The vampires relegate Guillermo’s (Harvey Guillén) one-story fall and twisted limbs to a flesh wound at best. They are far more concerned with their roommate who is unaccountably off his game.
Poor Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch). He’s got a black eye and he is suffering. Not because of the pain of broken blood vessels under the skin, but for the attention he gets for it. Unwanted, unwarranted, and horribly off-putting attention. The most shadowy of the vampires is interesting all of a sudden, and it’s killing him.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “What We Do in the Shadows” Episode 6, “Urgent Care.”]
“What We Do in the Shadows” has never taken pleasure in withholding information from the audience — quite the opposite. Early seasons peeled back vampire lore and unveiled the vampiric council. Season 4 focused on Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as the baby which crawled out of his chest cavity grew into… another Colin Robinson. The Season 5 premiere, after some excellent teasing, answered the question of whether or not Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) had been turned into a vampire, while Episode 3 revealed more about energy vampires with a dazzling guest cast.
Season 5, Episode 6 offers yet another intriguing tidbit about modern-day vampiric existence: familiar urgent care. It’s less legitimate and effective than vampiric bureaucracy, but hey — they’re just familiars. As Guillermo’s vampirism becomes harder to hide, viewers are let in on the secret while the other vampires — especially Nandor (Kayvan Novak) — remain in the dark.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows Season 5 Episode 5, “Local News.”] What We Do in the Shadows brought its vampires into the light…. of a newsroom studio in its latest installment, “Local News,” after the roommates found themselves in a dicey situation. It all began when Nandor (Kayvan Novak) began oversharing information about himself to a local reporter who was broadcasting about a water main break on his street. With Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) out of the house saying goodbyes to his unsuspecting family, the vampires only made matters worse without him around to guide their actions. What unfolded was the booby-trapping of their home by Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) to protect it from humans, the creation of a nine-step plan by Laszlo (Matt Berry), a blonde makeover for Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and unhelpful assistance by the well-intentioned Guide (Kristen Schaal). Helping to create this chaos onscreen was episode director Yana Gorskaya,...

What happens if the world finds out about vampires?
“What We Do in the Shadows” Season 5, Episode 5 finally poses that question, and answers with riotous results. “Local News,” written by Sarah Naftalis and directed by Yana Gorskaya, has the vampires thinking they’ve been outed after Nandor (Kayvan Novak) tells a local reporter that he’s centuries old, then promptly runs back to the house to tell everyone about his blunder.
Each character reacts with what is fundamentally a reasonable response to this threat. Life as they know it is over and they think they’re under attack. Nadja (Natasha Demetrious) dyes her hair, tests an alias, and gets her go-bag; Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) insists on taking a final stand and booby trapping the house while he prepares for war; Lazslo (Matt Berry) wants to fight back with his mind, crafting a kidnapping plan that definitely has a second step.

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows Season 5 Episode 3, “Pride Parade.”] The vampires of FX‘s What We Do in the Shadows embraced the rainbow for Season 5’s hilarious installment, “Pride Parade,” helping their neighbor Sean (Anthony Atamanuik) in his attempt to win the borough’s LGBTQ+ vote for comptroller. What follows is a series of hijinks only achievable on a show as supremely zany as Shadows. While the installment culminates in the titular pride parade, the shenanigans leading up to it include a body swap for Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and a wild one-man trip to space for Nandor (Kayvan Novak). When it came to achieving these stunts onscreen, the processes were fairly practical, particularly for Nadja whose body was inhabited by the spirit normally animating her lookalike doll. Instead, Nadja moved into the doll and struggled to get back to her own body ...

With great power comes great responsibility — unless you’re a vampire on “What We Do in the Shadows.” There in the recesses of Staten Island, great power yields great irresponsibility, great hubris and a great amount of hair-brained schemes involving body swaps, space flights, and sunburn. “You only live once,” Lazslo (Matt Berry) says in Season 5, Episode 3 — and while he’s not wrong, he’s risking centuries of life.
In “Pride Parade,” written by Jake Bender & Zach Dunn and directed by Yana Gorskaya, the vampires become local heroes in Sean’s (Anthony Atamanuik) campaign for comptroller and the centerpiece of his bid for the LGBTQ vote. In typical “Wwdits” fashion, everyone is thrilled with the attention, only to sideline the event with their own personal chaos until episode’s end.
Now in the know about Guillermo’s latent vampirism, Laszlo chooses not to kill Guillermo or out him to Nandor...

This article contains spoilers for What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 3.
Staten Island isn’t known as the most progressive of the five boroughs of New York City. Sean Rinaldi (Anthony Atamanuik) wants to change that in What We Do in the Shadows season 5 episode 3 “Pride Parade.” If elected as Staten Island Comptroller, he promises a platform which can support everyone, and the installment is titled for his most ambitious plank.
Sean is so inclusive, he is not content to draw the Lbgtq+ communities, he wants to appeal to the LMNOPs. To do that, he needs donors who bring A, B, and O, positive and negative, to the voting booths. It’s the kind of infusion only Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), can bring to heat the chill reception expected at a wintertime, after hours, pride parade on the streets of Staten Island.
